Are cobs really worth it?

Unless @lukio photoshops his pics, his grows are better than mine after 12 years of growing and mine are better than 90% of the grows I've seen either in the flesh or on the web.
People follow his stuff coz he's proved he knows his stuff! I read someone on the other site compare a Plantphotonics LED to an electric potato peeler! Pp make some of the best hand assembled LED you can buy, that's the mentality of some of the members!

Its not an argument that we need to get into. I am sure Lukio can grow some plants. But he is according to him a career photographer. And I think after 12 years you can give yourself more credit than that.

But as for the COB's and DIY QB's etc I am a huge fan of it. Part of the reason Lukio dislikes me so much is because I was a single step away from lighting a huge space with 20 QB's, please believe me when I say I know the tech, and I don't doubt its credentials. But sadly my aim was to lower consumption as much as I could, and being in the UK 20 QB's was also a difficulty. So I chose a different route.

And I also dont doubt some of the members hating on LED tech, but then thats life isnt it. Some people dont want to see the light.. But then thats some people, I cant dislike them for being set in their ways. :peace:

Can we get 1.2kg (2.2 pounds) in soil with 800W of HPS? I ask because it's the result I have actually each 3/3.5 months with 800W of COBs and I'm sure I can yield more because I don't use CO² and I am not a big fan of fertilizers.. I just use fertilizers from the end of the stretch. Coming back to HPS would be a nightmare for me!

How do you think heat is lost in a grow space where we have like 500W of heat being produced per m2? Apart from necessary ventilation, insulate the space. Not really that complicated, but hey what do I know, I just spec this stuff once a week as an architect

Well I dont draw it, I fit it. And as an architect I would like to think you know that at the rate we need to exchange air in a grow room the insulation is pretty much obsolete once you get a little larger than a tent. And even more so when you start getting high level lighting involved because the desire for CO2 will rise.

As an architect I am sure will be able to accept that if two rooms equally insulated with an equal rate of extraction with two different levels of heating will not be the same ambient temps. If room "A" has a heating element set at 500w and room "B" is set to 1000w, are you saying the insulation will level them out and they will be the same temp inside?

You assume extraction. That's a false assumption. Ever heard of a sealed room?

I have no reason to doubt @lukio s honesty, but he doesn't need me to stick up for him, he has no dog in this race and nor do I for me this is just a hobby, I have a full time job a family and other things to fill my time, it's a shame tho that with the world on our cases that we can't disagree with a little more humour and humility.

That's a pretty bad result if you look at this report (and he's using less efficent leds than you): https://www.rollitup.org/t/wickeds-3-incredible-bulks-under-dual-p450-leds.922546/page-3#post-13283858
This guy pulled over 2g/W with some epistar led panels.

Yes it rings a bell.

And I didn't assume anything, I just made a comment on my own setup. I wasn't generalising on every grow in the world. From the off my points have been that grow environments are different, and have different needs. Nothing more.

Lukio's honesty is the last of my concernes, and please believe me that I see most things with a comical eye. Shame most had to meet me through Lukio's anger, because as fan of QB / COB tech, a very experienced grower and a genuinely caring grower I think most would have been quite friendly under different circumstances.

Even Lukio knows I am a good chap.

Real shame. :peace:

You haven't done a side by side or even seen one, yet you claim authority on the subject?

I've done it against HPS and CDM/CMH lighting and the UNANIMOUS response was that COB LED grown product was superior. They could see it through clear jars from across the room.

And you call yourself a doctor?
I have, never noticed any difference in quality, but i could be using not the best LEDs.

If there is a difference it's small.
