Are they really terrorists or are they just plain mercenaries

If you go over to the Spirit and sexuality section you can see that I would disagree with the whole god thing. I think that just complicates everything, and muddies the waters making these wars into something that they cannot ever win.
Actually religion simplifies everything had people only knew anything about their religion. I'm sure that like 80% of all muslims, the christians haven't even read the bible. Religion is about peace, love and understanding amongst human beings and not the other way around.

I don't believe anybody should have to see the horrors of war, but those who choose to do so deserve all of the respect and prayers from anyone who supports them.
What horrors of war did you see bunghole. I spent half my childhood in a fuckin bombshelter while your american troops were helping israel bomb my home country Lebanon. I'll never forget the sight of a bomb falling down from the sky and destroying a whole building while we were trying to run down to the bomb shelter and I was only fucking 8 years old. So don't you tell me about the horrors of war!

These Murderous thugs certainly aren't mercenaries, because the actually believe they are doing their gods work.

But really who cares what their reasoning is?

this from your book of love:

Jihad : the concept of Holy War in Islam

The Quranic term 'Jihad' means, "Holy fighting in the Cause of Allah or any other kind of effort to make Allah's Word (i.e. Islam) superior. Jihad is regarded as one of the fundamentals of Islam."
Muslims refer to a 'greater Jihah' (the personal struggle against sin), and a 'lesser Jihad' (holy warfare against the enemies of Allah and Islam). This distinction is often lost in the media, in part because some Muslims deliberately misrepresent the concept of Islam.

Muslims disagree among each other as to what is or is not acceptable in 'lesser Jihad.' For instance, while many Muslims speak out against terrorist acts committed in the name of Islam, others approve of such acts under certain conditions (example).

Following are various views and comments regarding 'Jihad':
There are two understandings of jihad. The basic meaning is ''to struggle'' or ''to strive.'' Greater jihad is the warfare against sin and all that is against God and the teachings of the Quran. It is the personal struggle each Muslim wages to be a true believer and follower. The Quran urges one to stay on the straight path and to strive in Allah's cause. (22:78; 49:15).

Lesser jihad is the traditional holy war launched in the name of God against the enemies of God and Islam. Thus, jihad is both a personal and community commitment to defend and spread the religion of Islam.

The Quaran and the traditions present jihad as coercive and violent. Muslims understand it to be an effort or struggle to bring righteousness and peace on the earth.

Nice job!

And I agree that is what a lot of religion is, but the other 20% is about conformity. I don't have a serious issue with people having religion, I have issue with people deciding that everyone else needs it too, and they are the only ones that have gotten it right.

It is used as a way to be able to look down on others as 'missing out'. I don't want anyone to feel sorry for me, there is no reason to. Just because I don't believe in the book that someone taught to you, should mean nothing more than I did not read that book.

Too much evil has been done in the name of religion.

exactly..... it's in their BOOK.
so they believe that they are in a war against sin.
they want the world to be a better place and for everyone to get into heaven but you can't change old ways so you have to start fresh by killing off all living sinners....

at least that's what I got from reading that

you just can't see how death could be seen as a good thing...

I don't need to explain myself, but what war are you talking about. The only reason Isreal is defensive is because every islamic nation in that region wants their entire people destroyed. They blame everything on the jews and the west, and expect Israel not to act. The one hope of freedom for the middle east, and they are constantly attacked. I give complete support to Israel and their struggle for the promised land. I don't think the islamists are running out of land anytime soon.

That seemed like a pretty fair observation to me. It wasn't saying all muslims are bad. And the media in America is pretty liberal, a few exceptions, so why does everybody bring that up. We must be brainwashed if we don't believe a certain way. That is an easy way out when you can't debate the facts. And it's funny hearing that from a guy called sandmonkey.

A mercenary by definition is unemotionally attached to the work, it's all about the paycheck. Terrorists are not interested in wealth, but ideology. This thread didn't need to go this long.

Exactly. And what does "muslim" mean? it means he/she who surrenders or submits to the will of Allah.

So all prophets were muslims, and they all come from the same Abrahamic bloodline.

Thanks for the tip on quoting. I totally agree with you and this is what Islam teaches also. that you must not insist and if GOD wants to guide that person he will. You cannot imagine how unbelieving I was and how I laughed at those that tried to give me tips on what is right and wrong. I believe in logic and after reading the 3 holy books, I came to a conclusion that what they contain is logic and hence I was guided.

Exactly! but let's simplify it for some boneheads. Islam = monotheism = belief in one GOD

"promised land" eh? spoken like a true zionist.

The so-called "Jews" in Israel are not true Jews. They are Ashkenazi "Jews".
Islam has nothing against the People of the Scripture (Christians and Jews). But the current inhabitants of Israel are not one of them...
