beginning bubbleponic problems

a major problem for the yellowing was the res temp being close to 80 got it to around 71 last night and this morning plants looking alot healthier and i started feeding them right as far as i know and can tell.

any ideas on how to keep res around 65 - 70 without changing a frozen water bottle everyday or even less than a day??

now that the roots are almost all in the water should i stop running the feeding tubes??

heres a pic as of this morning.

Your plants are looking great so far. A couple of cheap ideas for helping to keep the res temps down:

1. Yes, if the roots are in the water AND you are having problems with water temp then turn off the water pump. This will help bring the temps down.

2. Insulate your reservoir. Just wrapping your reservoir with Mylar or a space blanket like you can get at WalMart (you can get better ones at a outdoor sports store like R.E.I.) will help stabilize the temps so that when you do lower the temp it won't rise back up so fast.

3. Put your top-off water in the refrigerator.

4. Make an "automated" top-off system out of a plastic gallon jug (like a milk jug, though these are kind of flimsy), some 1/4" drip tubing, a 1/4" barb (http://www.dripirrigation.com/drip_irrigation_info.php?cPath=37&products_id=1273) and a 1/4" valve (http://www.dripirrigation.com/drip_irrigation_info.php?products_id=65) and some Plumber's Goop or similar sealant.

Poke a small hole in the bottom of the side of the jug, insert the barb, seal with the Plumber's Goop so it doesn't leak, let it dry, stick about 3" of the 1/4" tube on the barb, put on the valve, and finally stick another 6" of tubing on the barb.

To use, close the valve and fill up the jug with the same amount of water that your plants are currently drinking during the day. Freeze it overnight. Poke a small hole on top of your reservoir. In the morning, put the jug on top of your reservoir and feed the tube through the hole in your res and open the valve. The water will slowly melt during the day, both topping-off your res and keeping it cool.

If the plants are too close to the jug then make the tubes longer and set it on something to the side of the res. There will be condensation from the jug, so stick a rag under it to soak it up.

Hope this helps...

for exhaust it really depends on how much space you have to circulate air in and out of I like to turn the air over in my box two times per minute

so if I have a 4x4x8 tent that is about 128 cubic feet so I need a fan that will move double that about 250 cfm. for input and output. 2 6" booster fans one for inlet one for outlet. or you could use a single can fan which is a load bearing fan that could exhaust a light and the tent with a passive air intake.

if your not trying to be high tech about it.

you can use whatever fan you want if you grow with your tent open.

to close it refer to above. I'm not a good teacher but I hope you can catch on.

Your tent is almost identical to mine except mine is 2 feet taller. First, I recommend keeping the ballast outside of the tent to keep temps down. The only other thing I suggest is an exhaust fan near or at the top of the tent. I am using a 4" computer fan. I see there is an exhaust hole on top of your reflector so you should connect the exhaust to this with some ducting if you can.

ph 6.4 put a little ph down to hopefully bring it close to 5.8 - 6.0 will check and adjust if needed in the morning..
ppm was at 500 added 12.5ml gro. 7.5ml micro. and 2.5 bloom taking ppm to 615. water from faucet is 180.. is that a good ppm reading or do i need to add more nutes to get a high ppm around 800 so its about 620ppm without water from faucet.. any help would be appreciated.

They look great Crack...I can't give you any information on ppm, cause I don't mess with it....but I think Rose runs around a 1000 and some guys run up to 1500....MostlyCrazy or the mathematician Bluey can probably throw you a bone here...

im just in the process of figuring it out.. i have been using flora series chart by nutes per gallon but when i followed their chart my ppm was off the charts so im just sticking with the basic growth nute of flora without using transition. aggressive veg. cuz my ppm sky rocketed using the aggressive veg but i stuck with normal veg nute per gallon and ppm was right on money. i will add pix later but no one seems to be following so ive stopped adding stuff. their getting big..

gona flush res friday night and just put reg water until monday then start 12/12 and by adding half bloom until next flush bout 7 days later or i might just leave veg nutes until monday then switch over 12/12 and flush 3 days later starting half bloom.

my la woman has 4 huge fan leaves.. dna says dont be scared to clip them in 5th week and sunday is week 5 veg so should i clip the 4 or only 2??

They should be about 12" high to flower to allow them to mature. Early flowering 800-1000 Full flowering 1000-1200+ Final flowering 600-800 a couple weeks before flushing.

Just switch the lights to 12/12 and leave the nutes as it for 4-5 days before you drain and replinish with Bloom nutes. It tales the plants a little while to figire out the nutes have been changed.

Don't remove the fan leaves or ANY leaves unless they are 50+% dead. To top them, cut the main stem off at the 4th or 5th node. Also, you can trim any long side stems as well. The more you prune, the more bud sites you'll get. Allow enuff time for them to grow new shoots before you send them to flower.

You can push the ppm if you like. Just watch them and see how they react. Different strains handle ppm's differently. Start low and increase it to see how they do. As a rule, your ppm should be around 800-1200+ in full veg. That includes the ppm of your water.

thanks alot.. i wont cut the leaves but i prob wont start topping or trying any of the more yield strategies until ive done a couple grows and are comfortable i just felt it would be good to get those huge fan leaves out of the way so lower branches could get some light they arent a bright green.. i moved the fans leaves by tucking them between lower leaves.

alot of growth from shoots under those fan leaves last night after being tucked aside.

will post more pix later..

how can i control growth cuz i only have a 5' tent and i think these babies are gona be right there at the top and that leaves no room for light.

If your tent is only 5' then you will need to do some training. If you have room, you could tie them down or do some kind of LST. Or, you could top/FIM to create more lateral growth. Or, you could supercrop. I have never done any kind of training because this is my first grow and mine are inches from the top even though I have a 7' tent. Do some research on training and pick something that will work for you.

i was thinking bout getting chicken wire or something of that sort and hanging it from rods in tent where i no longer want the plants to get any taller and i think that will work. ive seen some peoples set up and they say it works best for them so ill give it a try and its cheap and you most likely cant fuck up your plants with unless unlikely accidents occur.
