Blackstar led 240w best yield competition

LOL not true at all. Here she is. LEDs + Airpots + Organic supersoil + training = big buds. The last pic one of her main branches got snagged and fell off about 1-2 weeks before... so she actually had several more big colas that weren't pictured here in these shots as these were the final harvest shots. That is a foil turkey baking tray fyi. She lives up to her name as well -- Medicine Man but I called this one Dr. Quinn (medicine woman). The airpot she's in is only 2.4 gallons as well, but one gallon of airpots = about 2 of a normal pot. BOOM.

PS - those buds are not airy either -- they are dense.

Ok. Well I have a handful of Blackstars and can assure you, they will not grow anything like that.

I respectfully call bullshit.

What reason would I have to lie? Other people who know me personally here and don't grow LED can tell you i have nothing to do with the company. Just like'm. I would guess whatever difference lies in technique or method used. Did you use super soil? Airpots? Did you supplement with cal-mag? Did you FIM to get multiple colas? What distance were your lights at? Hydro or soil? Do you pH check your water? I do every time. These things all make a difference. Shit just not realizing you may need cal-mag can make the difference between a successful grow and a fucking disaster of a grow. If you did hydro I've heard lots of people have issues on hydro and led. or maybe it was just the model you got? Mine are 2012s maybe they're different/better. All I know is mine grew those and several other big ass plants -- the biggest I've grown and I grew under 600w hps previously. i didn't grow supersoil or airpots previously though so I can't say which was more responsible. if you didn't get success with leds are you honeslty going to tell me that you know for sure it's not the method/environment you did just didn't work with led?

PS - don't believe me, watch my videos in my current grow threads. I'm almost done with week 3 of veg -- you're welcome to watch and see if it's bullshit -- I'm aiming to outdo my results from last time, although I'm going to be working on maximizing yield in smaller (1.5g) airpots. Those plants in those videos have never seen anything other than LED light since they day they were born -- they are all under 1 240w veg blackstar at the moment. They'll be going under multiple later today. Although I guess that thread isn't going to prove anything to you since it'll have HPS, although i've been reconsidering and thinking about just doing complete LED vertical to prove a point to some know it all in another thread, so maybe I'll just do that instead so I can prove to some more people what you can do with a few 240w LEDs :) I don't have anything in particular in rooting for blackstars other than they're cheap and they work. A lot of other LEDs do I just don't think they're worth the expense - there are some LEDs I wouldn't touch with a 10' pole :)

LEDs do work. I just got one of these to use for a while and I saw what it can produce even with a crappy grower. I hope to get some good results with this LED and my T5's.

Lucius has been bitter about his Blackstar results, and letting everyone on RIU know about it for months... don't sweat it Sensei, just keep on keepin on man, you're doing great =D

I pulled 8 1/2 ounces dry from 1 plant under 2 blackstar 240s... The main cola was longer than a 2 liter bottle, and fat as a can of beer the entire length...

Yea I know how to grow. LOL

The problem with the Blackstars is they just don't have enough intensity

May have been the model you got.... mine are not all that intense, and still grow great buds... dunno if it was just the model you had or just the method, but sure you'd get better results if you tried with my lights and my methods :) if it was the particular model you got that sucked, that really blows, but apparently is not a problem anymore and they don't sell'em anymore, so.... can see the reason for the bitterness (it was what I was most worried about as well, paying a lot for lights and they grow like shit), but i don't see why you have to call other's results into question. I know I'm not even that great of a grower and have a lot of room for improving my grow so like I said, I expect yields to be even better the coming rounds. I'm quite content with mine :)

Don't know what to tell ya man. I can say that the Blackstars have been a welcomed addition to our cloning racks however. I put 1 240w over 2 cloning domes and it works perfect. I typically have 12-14 clones in each dome.

Not bitter at all bro. Just don't want other folks to come on these forums and buy into a bunch of bullshit about LEDs growing like 1000watt HPS like I did and end up dropping $600+ on them.

You're entitled to your opinion though. Just leveling the playing field of reviews.

a 4 oz plant isn't what a 1k light should be growing so not making the claim they're equivalent to a 1k light :) other manufacturers may claim that but i don't recall ever seeing any promotional material saying the blackstar specifically grew light a higher wattage hps. I'll agree with you that buying any led blackstar or not thinking it's going to grow a lot more than the wattage rated is a mistake. Maybe you could get lucky and that will happen but I wouldn't count on it :) Really I didn't count on getting more than the effective (power draw) wattage on my blackstars (around 135 watts each) and I definitely got at least that much.

The one thing people need to not forget, though there is less heat you will still probably end up buying an inline fan and filter for the smell anyways. I just bought a 240 veg/clone. Waiting for it to show up. Going to use it with my 600w hps, and then for my carnivorous plants after

Im having hard time staying under 85 with the LED's so I know id have problems with HPS. The par readings from my Blackstar where pretty damn good. I think the comparisons I heard was equal to around a 400 watt hps. I need to find someone in my area with a 400 watt hps bulb so I can get par readings from it and compare.

So I guess this is my call to you guys.. if you have a par meter, and a HPS bulb. Get a reading 1' below the light and see how these two models compare.

You can see the 2012 blackstar smoked my Haight.... to the point its unplugged and hanging in shame until I set up another veg area.

Really old thread, I know. But does anyone have a suggestion for distance above tops for flowering with (1) BS240?

16 inches would be the max I would go for flowering an indica-dom with a BS240, 8 to 10" is good if you can handle the loss in footprint. I've had them inches away from some strains with no problems. Try the stickies next for any other simple questions. You'll do everyone a favor and get more answers too. Good Luck!
