Most analysts see Flacco's deal as really being three years. His cap number will be so high in 2017 (i heard $27M) that he will either have to renegotiate or face getting cut.
Just like everyone else. Big Ben is having his deal restructured, Brees will have to have his restructured, and the monster deals Matt Ryan and Aaron Rodgers will also have the same thing happen.
Flacco got a 29m signing bonus, that's more than he's made in his 5 years in the league already.

Same thing with Brady too.. he was due a crapload of $ this year under the old contract. I heard the same about Flacco, though; his contract will be renegotiated before 6 years..

Now that Baltimore has no more money to pay Ed Reed, @the least you know he'll go to a winning team when he joins NE:o

You are showing your lack of football knowledge. WITH the signing of Flacco, it actually frees up a ton of cap room lol. And Reed, while I love him and how he's been, is at the end of the road, he's not what he used to be.
And he's played for a winning team his whole career, he just got a Superbowl ring last month, remember?

I said nothing about cap room. Baltimore is paying Flacco how much this year? Over 30 +/- million?
Yeah only 6.8 counts against salary cap, but 30 million is a friggin lot.
As for Reed, he'll probably stay put. Just dreaming, and pulling your chain s little

It's a hair over 20m a year. Sure it's a lot, but the market determined the price. Hence he's worth it. Nothing else matters lol. They will have to restructure his deal after year 3 no matter.

Should be interesting next season when Denver comes to Foxboro. Especially if Manning and Welker click lol

Amendola isn't nearly the slot receiver welker is. He's spent more time injured than on the field . Welker has been nothing but consistent the last 5 years, in productivity and durability (minus the knee). Yeah i know he wasn't traded, free agent. Pay him $2 million more over 2 years and you don't throw away 5 years of chemistry between quarterback and receiver. It just goes to show you, the pats don't budge, no matter who you are, unless you're #12

You only pay for game changing talent. Brady, Wilfork and Gronk are game changers; they all got paid. Welker is an interchangeable part that someone else valued more than the Pats.

Also, another thing Welker has done consistently is drop passes he should have caught in crucial situations. I was at a concert the night of the AFC championship, but when i saw the drop i had a pretty strong suspicion that that was it for Wes.

You remember the drops, but how about all the catches? Welker is the best slot receiver in the game. A tough sob. How can you say he's not a game changer. Anyone with his stats is a game changer. Anyone the opponent has toscheme for is a game changer. One of the big reasons Pats have had #1 Offense in the game is welker. They should have paid him. But guess what: we'll all need to wait till the season to see who's right. The proof is in the pudding!

Not so sure about that. He commands a lot of game prep and double coverages. Just like gronk and vince. And scores touchdowns. I admit, gronk and vince are coverage nightmare, and brady, well you know... but i think defenses are going to try to shutdown the number one scorer of their opponent ie welker.
Love a good football discussion

Leon Washington coming to NE. Looks like the Pats have found a replacement k/o & punt Returner; another thing welker did for NE.

Anyone going into the middle of the field pulls double coverages in a zone pass coverage due to proximity. Welker in 2012 was tied for 34th with 6 touchdowns and has a career hight of 9 in 2011 - he's not a touchdown machine. He's a better than competent slot receiver in a league where that skillset is pretty common.

Welker is not one of the top receivers in the league in TD's, but total yards, yards after catch, and receptions he is... but we can do stats all day. Where i think the value is in welker, and what makes him the best is his toughness. He gets lambasted by linebackers and DB's over the middle, shakes it off, and lines up for the next play. Just what you want from your slot guy. Im just not so sure Amendola will stand up to the punishment. We will see.
