Building a silent indoor tent (sketch included), need help with ducting and setup!

We have told you the things to try, see what works for you. We don't have any magic solutions and it seems as though you are already pretty set on the stuff you have so just go with that and deal with the noise.

Well I have a 10 inch vortex running at 35 volts on a variac and I can't hear it at all. Good bearings in the blower and smooth ductwork.
I would love to see/hear that thing running like from 3-6ft away, how much air is it pushing at the moment. Probably your grow room size would be good to know too, that seem like a one big blower.

Build a double skinned cabinet and put insulation in between the skins. If it's an option. Mine is at the foot of our bed and I don't here anything.

Apologies , its the 4" that's 23db. 6" is 25db or 26 for higher airflow model. I have a 4" and 6"
The 6" deals with two 3x3 tents with 320w lighting in each and the 4" takes care of the 2x4 tent.

I used to own a £300 silenced fan, that was 50db. Noise bothers me.

Most well known branded fans you can find vids on youtube showing tests on volume and comparisons.
I doubt you will find anything on these but I can record a vid and PM it to you if you need.

One thing, these are quiet but less airflow than some fans of same size so check the airflow in the chart in the link and size accordingly. They do handle ducting very well though.

Oh I linked the one which has the data sheet so you could see the info needed, but you can buy all the sizes even though it may not show, I would suggest gardeners corner over some of the other sellers.

You can make your own duct mufflers with two reducers and a section of galvanized snap seam, stuff a layer of insulation in there and stick a piece of chicken wire in to hold the insulation.

So is bigger ducting size worth it when dealing with sound and air pressure? Can you muffle the air flow coming out of the ducting? There's many things i've still would like to know, like what people would do in my place, or what would they change when they see my plan.

I'm interested in the "smooth sided galvanized snap seam ductwork" if that really would be the superior choice, i would want to see it in action before getting ahead of myself. I've read those metal pipes can be a little bit louder than movable ducting, but i realize that might depend on several things like bending and angles.

I'll try to follow the best path and maybe show some results at the end how it all worked out. Literally nothing is set in yet.

Short of buying some materials and getting your hands dirty there is nothing that we can show you that has any real world meaning in your situation.

I suggest an oversized vortex blower, a variac speed control, galvanized duct that is upsized, placing the blower mid run and placing the muffler/s near the ends of the duct.

I know that with that setup I wouldn't hear it running if the blower is below 50%.

A video would be splendid if you have time to record your fan and ducting at different distances (db meter with you would be icing on the cake, i think smart phones can use those apps to detect sound). At what speed you run your fan at? Seems pretty unbelievable that you could even run those fans so quiet. Never ever seen so low numbers, pretty much all manufacturers tend to lie about their performance.

Most of the noise is air movement, I just add another carbon filter to the exhaust side, outside of the tent. That pretty much takes care of the noise. A quiet fan is a must, these types of fans are the quietest I've come across. http://www.canfan.nl/im150410.html

I didn't believe the db rating either, I took a punt on them after looking at them a long time and was pleasantly surprised .
Will try and record it this evening.

I wonder if could you visualize that for me, i don't know how that would look like in real life. The port in the tent is at 170cm (67") height, i would have to bring the ducting to the ground level and do a loop to the left so the air could exist behind my sofa. I can't imagine a better way to deal with the ducting, there's pretty much no other place to exit it unless i cut it off straight after the tent, but that's not an option because of the sound.

So you aren't exhausting outside? Just to behind the sofa? Where you sit? And it needs to be quiet?
