you sissies, some of my friends eat the raw cactus like cucumber.
Hey mate I've yet to adopt to the wholly fruiting phenethylamine class of things :lol:

Perhaps I should look at it as a cucumber or better yet as a sodium enriched pickle... Vlasic wouldn't have anything on me, or my secret ingredient ;)

Lol, wel with foresight, you could just keep the cactus till you need it, then prepare it, but in extraction lots of people do freeze and thaw cycles to rupture the cells. Freezing won't hurt your stuff.
I cactus cutting can be kept almost indefinately (well over a year) without water or soil ever being close to it.

i took a bite of some raw cactus and it really wasnt as bitter as i had thought it would have been.

No, the first few bites aren't so bad, it is the 15th or the 20th that has you gagging and turning green from the thought of what you just ate. I am not squeemish about taste, many of us invite the bitter as is so often a prelude to something sweet in one's head.. but for me at least the repetition gets repulsive.

I think I'm opted to get a freezer cellar ;)
