in my opinion if you are getting sick from smoking buds you are smoking something that's nasty, i'd look into testing to figure out the issue but i'm gonna guess excessive pesticides or fungicides.

ok usually id jump in defending cannabis, but I would like to throw out hypotheticals, anecdotal info, and theories. Most all my opinions on this and anything else are open to change based on new input as long as its logic driven, reasonable, and makes coherent sense. Here goes.
First of let me quote some of my lyrics, "Ganja Weed Never Hurt No One"
This is more in the symbolic or metaphorical sense, not the literal. In my mind its clear that someone can have too much of a good thing, and cannabis is no different than anything else in the sense it exists in the real world and has physical and spiritual effects on people. But there's more going on if someone is abusing cannabis to the degree that its harmful. Depression, stress, anxiety? Something. Cannabis isnt to blame, and generally even heavy use wont have any long term negative impact.
For me cannabis has and does provide physical and spiritual healing. But it can also be abused. I have abused it, I do my best to respect the plant now.
That said, I would still rather see people abusing cannabis than any other drug or chemicals. Cant overdose, usually there is no long term harm (almost all the time).
But this all challenges this statement.
On to the relevant part- If someone was smoking absurd amounts of weed (assuming clean organic buds, edibles, extracts), I could see the typical response of anti-nausea switch to nausea. If large levels of cannabinoids are present, then there not, wouldnt it make sense that the appetite has peaked and unless you reach that peak again and consistently that the appetite wouldnt return to a normal level? Does the nausea come in the morning before smoking?
Perhaps the people that this happens to have a predisposition to said chs, or there are other factors. I find this similar to the idea that schizophrenia can be revealed earlier with cannabis use, which has also been represented falsely that cannabis causes schizophrenia (I firmly believe this is not true). But if you already have it, it may manifest earlier with cannabis use.
Perhaps it can happen to anyone, although I doubt it as I have known many a heavy smoker who never experienced anything like this.
Perhaps everything I said above is wrong and there is an outside toxin causing this.
I know I dont spray my plants with anything anymore, even organic stuff. But now that I said that im sure ill get mites or something and have to spray again, but its been over a year maybe longer no spraying.
Maybe im rambling in the middle of the night because I cant sleep.
These thoughts were worded far more elegantly in my head.

What ty said about availability makes alot of sense too, and how more people are smoking than ever. Makes sense a small amount of cases would pop up. But what is the causation? Correlation?
sorry for the babble.

What makes me most skeptical that CHS is caused by the cannabis itself is the apparent transient, randomly timed nature of the attacks, despite continued daily use of cannabis by sufferers. People can go weeks or months between attacks that lead them into the ER.

Maybe it could even be a particular terpene that in very large doses is causing the issue, thus different strains may or may not trigger attacks.

I'm still looking for a grower that has bad CHS. I'm curious what pesticides/miticides/fungicides they might be using.

That's my suspicion. That it is something else in the bud that's both new (not on the market before 2000), not on a black list, and not used by all commercial growers.

like maybe the stuff hospitals hung on their walls that periodically would mist a solution to sanitize the air?
or maybe a mixture of it with other chems in the herb? .

Now dopes using it in their vaporizers for less viscous concentrate and that pretty cloud. propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin ?

High cbd herb makes me nauseous and so does ingestion of any mj preparation. except hashish-now thats just strange. I suspect the processing of the hashish has some to with I grow my own without chems.

hashish is processed differently that cannabis flowers. Typically a solvent is used perhaps causing a good/bad reaction to whatever else is troublesome in the chem make up?
I used to make my hash with 99% iso but now I use a tamisium to extract/remove/reclaim oil and a dry sifter to collect trichomes. I warm and press these together for a superior experience now.
good thread, hope it helps someone

I have chs and I grow my own, it is only brought on when I smoke too many concentrates or too many grams a day of strong weed. I get it from my weed and others. Some strains seem to be worse for sure.

Was reading around and decided to revive this thread since you wanted to know someone who grows and has chs.

I grow with ffof and the ff trio. No pesticides. If you would like to know more about my experience just ask.

Chs is very real, it isn't from poison or bad weed it is very much "too much of a good thing"

The only way to feel better is to quit and take hot baths for relief. When quitting it's like withdrawl it gets worse, insomnia and then the dreams when you quit. I get headaches and nausea too when I quit.

I'll start asking these people about concentrate usage. Thank you for adding your voice to this conversation. Helps some people keep an open mind. It definitely has some relation to cannabis use. We probably have 12 or 15 chronic and frequent users of the emergency room for cannabinoid hyperemesis. Have zero chronic hyperemesis patients otherwise. If they're not daily smokers they're not coming in over and over and over and over for vomiting.

I'm going to guess someone's going to figure this shit out in the next couple of years

I dab 2g distillate a week, for the past 6 months. And on iccasion 2x .5ml vape carts (once again i make myself). Before that, 1/4 week minimum. I only smoke what I grow. Nothing else. I'e been a very heavy smoker the last 6 yrs. A decent heavy smoker for the last 20. I never ever ever cough, feel shitty, crappy or chs symptoms.

I'm sure the vast majority of heavy users do just fine. However 100% of our cyclical vomiting patients are heavy cannabis users. 100%. That's the one common denominator among all of them. Well that and a refusal to believe that anything associated with cannabis could be causing their symptoms. I was thinking it might be a fungicide or miticide but someone in this thread is growing and knows what they put on their plants and still having issues. Which points back at simple over use. Some people can only smoke so much for so long before they get sick.

And just to be clear I'm not some anti cannabis, Richard Nixon holdover, flag-waving, lock them all up conservative asshole. I'm in medical grower, and middle of the night can't sleep smoker.

And I love my blue dream and cookies kush. the first two pic are of my Cookies kush, and the last is of my blue dream bud. The whole flower room smells like crazy sweet blueberries. And the pheno of cookies kush I have cures to smell like warm Mexican sweet bread.

My wife is a heavy smoker (and has smoked for most of the last 30 years). She has gotten CHS symptoms periodically. She only smokes flower and hash I grow/make, and I have not used Azamax in a couple of years, and only rarely used Neem during veg. For the most part I don't spray at all.

The short version is, she gets this sickness when she's stressed out. I don't know if being stressed out causes her to smoke more pushing her past a threshold where some chemical in the cannabis initiates her being sick, or if it is a brain chemistry thing where under stress her body is producing chemicals that when mixed with cannabis cause her to get sick.

I am curious to know if people who only consume edibles suffer from CHS? Or is it specific to smokers? Also, is there any age or gender bias with CHS?

The best part is it goes away when you quit smoking weed, but the worst part is the only way it goes away is when you quit smoking weed.

The stress seems to be a factor for some of the symptoms, then obviously it causes more stress. I don't consume edibles it takes WAAAY to much for me to feel it then I feel uncomfortable.

I haven't seen a gender bias but 20 people isn't really a fair sample size. And maybe we should start asking more specific questions over what type of cannabis products these people are using. With additional people self reporting that they are home Growers and don't use azamax or any other pesticides then my hypothesis kind of gets shot down.

Just because you don't use any pesticides and you don't get sick doesn't mean that people who get chs use pesticides...

I don't see why you keep chiming in that you are healthy and you don't use pesticides and junk. Do you think this somehow discredits chs?

It's just confusing man... U chimed in with this first.....what are we supposed to think? Where do you stand?

Don't mean to offend it just gets old when someone tells you that because they smoke a lot and don't get sick you shouldn't either.

Again.....lots of people eat sugar and few have diabetes...this doesn't mean that the ones that don't have it have healthier sugar lol.
