Thanks man! I was thinking about doing that if the clone doesnt make it. But if I do that it's not gonna screw up the rest of the plant is it?

if your super super super super careful it wont, you jus collect the male pollen and dust it on select buds but u do it so careful as to not get it on the others but if your gonna pick some and let the lower ones go if you do get some of the others it wont be all your bud man

Alright cool thanks for the good advice. I might end up doing that to get some seeds. The only reason why I want seeds is because both plants showed such great genetics that I'm hoping crossing them might give me another great new strain:)

Roseman,
Im planning to do a stealth grow in my closet and am wondering if you know of a way I could get power to my closet without anyone nitcing a extension cord across my floor. It's not like people just walk in and out of my area, but if somebody see's an extension cord leading to my closet, its bound to be questioned.

Thanks

Each has their place. I use both. There are advantages and dissadvantages to both. It kinda of comes down to the size of your grow. For a small grow CFL's are better. For a larger op CFL's are silly.
If you are trying to decide between them, use the CFL's first. They work a lot better than most people think. I grew almost half a pound with CFL's so I know whats up.
Happy growing.

I just ran a new power line to my closet, through the attic.

Can you do that?

Or tuck a line under the wall, near the carpet edge?

That is explained in detail the first page of this tutorial.

How much light is needed for growing?
Depends on the size of plant you are trying to grow. I'll try to answer this "in general" instead of being specific to one size plant. Light seen and perceived with the human eye is measured in Lumens. There is an ideal amount of lumens for growing and a minimum amount of required lumens. The very minimum amount of light required for smaller sized plants grown is around 3000 lumens per square foot. Let me put emphasis on "minimum amount" of light. However, that's not 100% exactly accurate, since although you may have a 10,000 lumen light, the amount of light that reaches the plant varies with the distance between the light and plants, and the reflectivity of the grow area. The ideal amount is somewhere around 7000-10,000 lumens per square foot for average sized plants. As long as the plants do not show burn, as much light can be used as you want to use. (Note, the sun produces about 10,000 lumens per square foot, on a sunny mid summer day). Contracy to "talk" you CAN have too much light.

Determining lumens for your grow area:
First determine the square footage of your area (example in a 4 foot by 4 foot area, there is 16 square feet, 2 by 2 feet is 4 Sq ft. ) If you have a 1000 Watt High Pressure Sodium Light Bulb, that produces approximately 107,000 lumens. Divide this by 16 (your square footage) 107,000 divided by 16 = 6687 lumens per square foot. So just divide the total amount of Lumens, by the total amount of square feet, and that's your lumens per square foot.

Approximate light production:

Fluorescents: 60-70 lumens/watt

2 X 2.5 = 5 sq ft.

5 sq ft need a bare minimum of 3,000 lumens per sq ft, so you need 3 X 5 = 15,000 lumens.

a 42 watt CFL averages 2700 lumens per bulbs, so divide 15,000 by 2700 to get how many bulbs are the bare minimum for a plant to survive and grow slowly.
Of course, a few extra bulbs would be recommended and wise.

I'm an electrician and I just want to say I've seen more than a few of the Metal Halide bulbs blow up and a couple of sodium bulbs blow up and its never pretty I haven't seen anybody point out that these bulbs can and do blow up.
And I've changed my share of ballasts as well they're heavy and unpleasant to work with they leak the starters burn up they're really not the best choice for a closet grow.
I've read your posts and love the tutorials on this site and I really think that for a novice and even a seasoned veteran the compact fluorescents are the way to go.
The one thing on here I notice is that some of the posters seem to act like they're better than the cfl growers, now I don't mean all of them but some of them just have to put down cfl growers in my case I can have any light system I want I can just make one if I want to god knows I have enough parts at work to put one together but I choose the cfl's because I don't want a fire in my closet.
and when one goes out it doesn't blow up like the MH and sodiums do and they are loud when they blow.
So for safety and stealth it's an obvious choice cfl's.
Thanks for all your good work.

Also the technology of cfl's seems to be coming up. Today i picked up a hydrofarm system with a hood and vegatative 125 watt cfl bulb, even when i added an extra 125 watt bulb for flowering, the whole system only ran me 100 bucks. I plan to ad two 26 watt bulbs for side lighting, but that's all. I saw a very intersting small scale grow using a similiar setup.

People have their preferences, but I'm one for safetly and stealth as well. If I grow in soil, then the only power I'm using is from these lower powered lights, and a couple small fans. I won't get pounds I know....but I'll get a decent and potent yield as others do...and my landlord, who gets my electric bill won't see more than a few dollars increase and won't ask questions...nor will the electric company....my whole goal is to not give anyone a reason to wonder what's in my house...and cfl's allow for that in my opinion ( if you don't use TOO MANY....lol).:weed:
