I will get some pics, but for now it it these, but without the reflector installed.

I am still trying to figure out what is the nature of lens vs reflector. The lends gets super hot and it has to be perfectly straight or else a lot of light skims off the lens and shoots out side ways. Even with it is straight on a lot of light escapes. But despite that, the numbers on the board look good at the 18" distance.

One thing that seems like its being overlooked (or maybe you guys are considering it):

I was looking back at a bunch of ledil reflectors and the surface is textured so the angle of the reflective surface is not following the curve of "cup" itself. Im assuming this is to direct the photons into an even pattern in the beam. If ledil is building reflectors for a specific cob array is it possible that those "facets" on the reflector are designed with the way the photons escape the cob in mind.

Obviously bed bath and beyond is not thinking about cobs when they design the curve of their egg cups and the inevitable "hot spots" ensue.

So, my real question is:
how important is it to "catch" stray photons as close to the cob as possible rather than a few feet away?

Seems like it would be easier and cheaper to diy a reflector "wing" that catches stray photons and sends them down to the edges of the canopy, than it is to diy a ledil.

Nogod, in my case the reflector wing is exactly what I have in mind, because I am running them close enough to canopy a reflector may actually interfere unless it was short. I will try "wings" vs short reflectors and see what gets more light to the canopy. But for those running COBs at (40W) or higher, I am convinced that they "need" a reflector and 5 minutes with a soda bottle and a can of spray paint could be a bridge until we figure out a more aesthetic solution.

the cheap chinese multichip units are using some wide reflectors which may be suitable if you can adapt them from a square multichip to a round cob. I have a bunch of failed chinese units that I'm upgrading with the vero18s so I have some to play with. Not sure how to get them directly.

I get the feeling the blue die emitters and phosphor coated resin will have very different lifespans depending on the cooling used (die lifespan) and whether a lens is used (phosphor resin lifespan).

Rather take the losses at the reflector than a secondary lens in most cases imo.

It was a substantial heat increase on the alta cob & heatsink with the lens ON.......their is no advantage(s) if you end up with a thermal runway/fried egg.

Anybody have pics of a vero 29 over a flowering plant? I'm looking at the 120 for my 2x2x4 tent. I have also been considering advanced led's p300, but i cant find actual cannabis grow examples so i can compare. Any info would be awesome. Thanks all

120watt Optic Vero18 3500K on the left and 200watt Optic Vero29 3000K on right. Both plants are DNA genetics White Aliens.

I´m making my own 2x Vero29 lamp, thx to everyone for the help, i got everything what i need except the lens part number, can someone paste a link for buy a similar lens for vero29? Please i am looking like a crazy. Thx again
