Cooltube-type Led design WIP

I like mine. The first was vinyl fence post. The one I run now is 10"x45" heatsink with 8 cxb3590's. I run 2 in around 15 sq ft. They go to a y with an airflow switch in the 4" line. I only need 100 cfm or less to cool the room and the LEDs even at 800w. I also added an inline filter to keep the crap out of my carbon filter. It's on this site somewhere. You will love it!

Passive sinks, nullify a design like this unfortunately.

and if you using active cooling, you will have to test as most cooling testing #'s are done in the other direction.

Not to say it can't be done, but maybe applying this type of tech, doesn't quite convert over as neatly, mainly because the light sources and the way they radiate heat are quite different :peace:

Like your design not hating, you spent some quality time on it, I can see.

BM9AGS I'm not sold on the water cooling, i've tried it on my PC ..works well but needs maintenance and replacing
the tubes every 1-2 years.

Abiqua, passive sinks do keep the lights within operating temperatures but dissipate heat in the tent nevertheless, I'm thinking I could get two birds with one stone, cool the passive sinks (if i'm driving more watts and they need more active cooling) and remove their heat from the tent...makes sense no?

I absolutely agree with that last part , just follow the law of physics, that's all I am suggesting. :peace:

I have a fan on my passive sinks. Makes them cool to the touch. Just a light breeze and they're cool.

Yeah, I've ran water cooling. But I used antifreeze because I had chiller so never needed to replace the lines.

not necessarily. passive sinks still put off heat. and if you design your system to be passive its somewhat fail safe as long as that fan draws on them even just a little

I think it's under 3590 retirement present. Let me check.

Here is what I have done. I have swapped out the back 4 3590's in the corner the last run with 3000k. I think I like it better for budding. I have some veros or citizen 3k's in mind and switch between drivers on bloom. I'll mount them on the same sinks. Pin sinks are the new rage but would not let me add the new cobs so easily. But the flexibility of what some of these guys on here have done are amazing. Kits and such. I'm waiting for the citizen cob testing by some on here to finish. I know who to follow and copy...:bigjoint:

dandyrandy the construction looks really neat, congrats friend. So you're running 8@50w on each heatsink, does it get hot ? You heatsink is beast compared to the one in my design and I was worried it will get hot, I'm on the lookout for alternatives. I want it for a 4x4 tent but I've never made a led before so I'm not set on wattage yet, suggestions are most welcome. I was thinking 3-4 cobs on each rail (total 15-20) and 3w monochromatics. The 3-4 cobs could be run at 40w each to give me a 600-800w total + the monochromatics (around 10 on each rail).
