Could extensive feed of molasses give harsh/bad taste?

And you think that's because of the molasses?

I swear....you guys crack me up.
I believe molassas to be nothing more than a waste of time at best and at worst, it makes your buds smell un-natural, hindering the great natural smell of a good strain. If your getting " massive buds" or whatever the claims are, congrats ! ( You would have gotten them anyway)

If you take away your potash source (molasses) then you will no longer have a happy plant. If you wanna use a different source for Potassium and some good minerals thats all good. But saying that if you take it out of your feeding without supplementing the potash and minerals in another way (like with seaweed) that everything will still be just fine is wrong.

Old thread i know! But id like to put in some input, i have to agree with ucle for the most part.

Before i ever used molasses my final product(herb) always burned clean after a nice lengthy cure.

For the last 4 cycles all my product, no matter how long i cured, burns a nasty black colour and is harsh on the throat. I honestly couldnt figure it out. Every cycle i would try to change up nutes or soil mixes etc... To no avail. The one varible that has been consistent throughout all 4 cycles is...... You guessed it mollasses!

The cycle that ended up the worst, biobizz was used... The main ingredient of biobizz is beet vinase which is a fancy word for... You guesses it mollasses!

My fith cycle is almost to completion, without any molasses added at all! Buds are still fat, dripping with resin.. And the only light they receive is about 4-5 hours direct sun.

I will follow up with MY opinion once completed and cured. Will post photo and some macros as well in a seperate thread, which i will leave the link here, for anyone interested.

I used molasses periodically on first flowering month (like 3-4 times i think), second month i increased the dose and last 2 weeks im feeding molasses every watering.
I just finished second flowering month, i have maybe 1 week left for harvest but i have my doubts. A friend who used it occasional and flushed with molasses (sulphured) in his last grow got a bit harsh molasses like taste.
My buds seems to like molasses anyway, they are like rocks! Dense and heavy. I even have to support the branches or they fall because of the weight.
Feeding atm: 1 full tbsp/galon of unsulphured molasses, 4ml/l biobizz bloom. 3 litre total watering for 12litre pot

Should i stop molasses or continue for maximum yield?
molasses is only really needed by the root zone and only when the plant cuts off sugar production to the root zone. This happens late in flower, like the last 2 weeks.

I use it once maybe twice a grow many because I use so much mycorrhizae type products I want to make sure they are fed well so they can feed my plant.

I have tried it and have had the negative effect of a weird taste too. Boosting sugars in full flower is a good idea but I was doing it wrong.
Now have dialed it in with 1 tbs per 10 gal. combined with Hygrozyme. I described the negative results and the grow store dude said to be sure to use some type of enzyme in conjunction with it. I chose this one. He said that the enzymes will take care of sugars not needed by the plant and therefore you wont over dose, causing the problem. No negative taste with this combination and plants seem to like it.

plants never need molasses in any way, shape , or form. if you're using soil or coco and using benefical microbes, those microbes can eat the molasses, but there are better choices to feed your herd. the truth of the matter is, unless you're using composted soil, the chemical salts in your nutes are pretty much killing any benes you put in your soil, and the molasses is feeding nothing if you're lucky, if you aren't lucky, its feeding shit thats about to eat your roots.

Grow store dudes will always tell you, you need more products they're salesmen that's their job.

Whither Molasses rightly or wrongly produces a harsh taste, there is some mineral elements, all be it very few that the plant can up take but in the grand scheme of things your base nutrient should be more than enough considering usually recommended dosages burns the plants, bottom line its great for feeding beneficial microbes and if you don't supplement bacteria then you are feeding all sort of nasty pathogens.

molasses should be used as a bloom booster and only given a few week in the grow also your not following biobizz feeding as grow is supposed to mixed with bloom as the both have a synergistic effect

also bizz contains molasses bear that in mind

your probs using to much bloom change ratio to 1ml grow 3ml bloom and drop bloom all together the last 7 days
I am an organic grower make my own soil and use SKINNY CHICKEN ORGANIC TEA and nothing else. The mix is for a 5 gallon preparation . I use a 9" air stone to aireate my tea. I also use 1 oz per 5 gallon bucket of tea of "PLANTATION" Unsulphered molasses. It contains 660 mg of K per tsp. When i start to flower my plants i go up from 1oz in veg to between 3-4 oz per 5 gallon bucket of mix. Im growing 6 strains. 3 haze starins and Gold Leaf, Chocolope, and Big Bud. 2 of my plants stretched over 6 feet tall. The molasses is a great source of Pand K. Im not against using Flower Boosters even though im growing organic. Im not stupid i love big huge colas so only at the end of my grow do i break away from traditional organic growing to get the biggest run of colas i can get the plant to build without screwing something up. I never worry about PH anymore . The SKINNY CHICKEN mix from ebay has everything needed in amendments but not too much. At full mixed strength it wont burn my girls or anyone elses. Red Frog has to many amendments and is a hot tea mix and will burn the piss out of your girls and quick too!! Not with SC. Each individual 5 gallon mix pack it measured fior accuracy and consistency so as to not ever burn a plant when made correctly. The molasses i found isnt expensive at about $7 for a large bottle. You should be able to get at least 10 -5 gallon mixes out of a bottle.

I posted some pics so all you wiser growers can critique my very first grow ever. I did add Overdrive , Bud Candy, B-52, Vital Boost, and Purple Maxx for my PHaze and i do have some MOAB. Mother of All Blooms extreme P and K for the last 2 weeks of flowering. I havent used any MOAB because i wanted to try the Overdrive. Im in week 6 now almost all of my girls are hybrids but Big Bud and Gold Leaf are indicas. My grow is in my spare bedroom. My girls are in 18 gallon totes. I havent had any issues with nute burn or PH because my tea mix takes care of it. It was all very confusing to start this grow with all the products you can use. I didnt know where to start. I knew i needed soil because im a newbie grower and never tried to grow before and it seemed easier to start with. I also ordered feminised seeds from ILGM ,COM to get good genetics. 3 of these strain are considered Xxtra high yield . I have cloned 45 clones off of the lower branches of all these plants that i would have taken off anyway. The only thing better than cheap is free!! Well i mixed 50% peat moss, 25% peralite and vermiculite, and 25% Just Natural potting mix with worm castings from Walmart. No TR nutes. I added bio-tone Root Tone for a little kick. These are my babies burned by my 1000 watt DE Yield Lab MH light. I didnt realize how much IR and UV rays they put out. Heres some sad photos of the plants that are now budding in the other pics. The SKINNY CHICKEN brought them right back with in 10 hours these plants tripled in size. I posted pictures of my burned babies. The second week pics are after 2 days of feeding every watering. I have pics for every growth phase. look under the big ol pretty leaves on the plants at the bottom and you will see the burned leaves.under the new growth. The node spacing is stacked from start to finish in veg.

Thanks for your input Agito . The mixing instructions for this organic tea was 1 oz of unsulphered molasses per 5 gallons of water and 1 pack of dry mix already pre measured.I have never grown cannabis personally before but smoked it for 15+ years. I wanted a no brain easy feeding solution for doing my grow. This mix when used as described will not burn any plant at full strength. Ive never had PH issues or burn issues. I even fed my 7 day old babies with this tea at 1/2 strength and they loved it. I have 45 more clones on this tea and i have already transplanted them up size pots 2 times in just 2 weeks. Also you dont have to have an airstone. You can just stick it in the sun or like me use hot water to start my mix churning. Before i found Skinny Chicken Organic Tea i used PH correct water, superthrive and bio-tone but all my plants burned up this summer when i failed to be able to reduced my temps in my grow room. I moved this grow into our ultra climate controlled spare bedroom. Thats where i burned my babies with the big light. So i dropped down to a 400wt MH and T-8 sidelighting. My ceilings are only 8 feet so the big 1000 watter MH was to close. Anyway i rolled on for a month and started flowering these plants without knowing what in the world to do about feeding a bloom feed with more P and K. I looked on a bottle of PLANTATION molasses. It has 660 mg of K , plus iron ,calcium, and magnesium. So i uped my molasses from 1 oz to btween 3-4 oz per 5 gallons of mix. I dont understand if the plants dont need the molasses then why didnt i have serious issues in bud stage? I know these plants have huge stalks super tight noide spacing, super branching, and tough stalks. Also i supercropped and topped and mashed and broke, popped, bent and tied down limbs . Never for more than a day was my plant growth stunted. I had to end up flowering my girls in 18 gallon totes and i think 20-25 gallon would have been better. The pictures i display are my very first grow ever so im very excited with the results! And im in ALABAMA ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!!! I think the molasses was the key for me to get the nice buds you see in the pics. I never used anything else until this week and thats only because i need to get my purple haze buds purple by Humbolt nutes called PURPLE MAXX . I also wanted to increase my yield so i bought some Advanced Nutients called "OVERDRIVE" to bulk up my colas. Another Advanced Nute i used was "BUD CANDY" and "B-52". I will flush my girls the last week of bloom. Im in week 6 now and i should have already started some of these nutes or additives long ago . Im learning quickly on my first grow. Im not changing anything on these 45 clones i started from the lower branches of these bushmaster trees im feeding.I should easily get 1-2 lbs for at least 3 of my bigger plants!!! Sorry your not happy using molasses but the plant uses more of the nutes in it than many people think. This SKINNY CHICKEN dry mix for cannabis on Ebay is used in almost all of the collectives in WASHINGTON STATE. I think that if all the collectives are using this mix then its god enough for me. I really just wanted to know about the MOAB i bought for the last 2 weeks of flowering to bulk up my colas and nuggets. It looks very strong and i was wondering if anyone has used it ? should i start out with OVERDRIVE first and see if that bulks up my weight before going to the MOAB. Mother of All Blooms. The P is 52- and the K -is 33 or something like that. Would anyone like to offer any advice on this issue?

Moab is nothing more than a fert with extremely high levels of P and K if your nutrient schedule is good it is 100% not needed
