CXB 3590 3500K build questions

Howdy Y'all, just got my parts in the mail from the down under. Really pumped to be putting together my first DIY with more to come. Starting off with 8 cxbs being driven off a single 400w driver. I have 2 questions, is 18 awg wire thick enough to do the series connections?

My main question is what configuration would you do with these 8 being driven at 50w each, covering a 3.5'-4' deep canopy area? The room for a 4' deep canopy is there, and the width, lets just say I'm going to have to build several more of these to fill the space:bigjoint: Hopefully replacing my 600/750 DE's

@CallmeTex Im going to be building a light for a 4x4 too, and I think I'm going to do

with cxb 3590 and 2 hlg185c1400 active cooled 36" heatsinks.

Yea I like that one, cause I can just keep adding bars and it's real easy. Would you be trying to cover the whole 4x4 with 8 cobs? Is that going to be a 50w a piece?

Yeah I plan to use the 36v version and try to cover the whole area with 8 cobs at 50w each. I agree that its the simplest setup compared to the others.

I've been working on a design similar to this. Really trying to get as even coverage as possible.

plenty. required wire gauge is based on current, sounds like about 1400 mA. you could go as small as 22 ga and still be fine. 18 ga is great, try to find 600V rated wire (jacket thickness is a function of voltage)

I like this build and will probably follow through with this @tomate. Seems like it will give a good spread with the dimensions being

@GroDank101 I have the anodized pin fin heat sinks from Cutter. Already drilled and tapped and ready to rock. I just need to pick up the angled aluminum and get to work now:grin:
Nice build man, Looks like you've got plenty photons there for a 4x4:clap:. I think I may sandwich this first build in between 2 Gavitas giving me around 11' x4' of canopy space. Eventually I want to rid myself of of HID and roll full cob like a lot of you fellas are doin.

Yes. Basically, all the other configurations are going to have a center 'hot spot' of light intensity that degrades towards the perimeter of the foot print. Spacing the chips correctly would provide extremely even coverage from this layout, keeping PPFD uniformity in mind. The idea is that crossover from all of the light beams will match irradiance from the center to the edge of the foot print, at given distances to the canopy.
