hey all. I was thinkin about givin DWC as try my next go. I was just wondering if 2 ounces a plant would be hard to get out of it? How long do yall suggest vegging? I will be using a 250 watt mh for veg and hps for flower using the 5 gallon bucket method, should I top feed? Will that give me faster results in veg and maybe help in flower? Sorry for all the ?s I just wanna make sure I do it as good as possible

beaver, no they do not stink at all but one plant's roots are darker then the other..im just tripping cuz im so close to them being finished and would hate to fuck up the taste or whatevs.......im sure its just from the nutes. im actually about 10 days till i harvest... excited!!! i dumped a bunch of nutes into it tonight, a lil more then normal. i figured i will feed only water and maybe bud candy the last week of flowering and spray just pure RO H2o on it each morning. im using AN Connoisseur, AN Big Bud, AN Bud Candy, Botainicare Sweet berry Carbo, & Emerald Triangle's SnowStorm Ultra. normally i use 10ml of each A&B of Conniosseur, 6ml of each B.B., B.C., & Sweet Berry, & 4ml of Snow Storm. also about 6ml of peroxide. i add that amount to each 4gal res. every other day. i add water every day, about half gal. i give em a light spray of mixed 2ml of snow storm & 1ml of sweet berry in a 1qrt spray bottle each morning...i gave em a bout a 30% increase of nutes tonight... im growing himalayan gold from green house...does all this sound pretty good or anything you would adjust fire on. these plants are fairly large at about 62" tall now and stalk is 1.5" wide...any advice would be fantastic. oh and i picked up some AN ph down and botainicare ph up & down. works great....thanx
You should be fine dude. The roots are just stained from the nutes!

You should be able to get 2 ounce yield. Top feed until roots hit the water. It wont give you faster results. Vegging time is all up to you. I have learned to not be a impatient grower so I will veg for 2-3 months. Lots of people veg for 4-6 weeks.

Hell yea thanks beaverhuntr. I bet u have some huge ladies. Ill have to check ur grow out. When I top feed should it be pumping water to it 24 hours or is there a preferred time ratio of off and on?

I vegged two clones for 8 weeks and ended up with 3.5 ft tall plants. If you are going from clone I would go for 4 weeks or so. Otherwise I think you would have too much plant for a 250. I was using a 250 mh and a 400 hps at the same time. Ended up getting 10 oz from one plant and 4 oz from the other. I've never top fed, but that's not to say it's not a good way to go. That was my 5 gal bucket grow in my sig, check it if you want.

this is my second dwc, these are all clones from a white widow mom. there 3 weeks old but im gonna veg for 8weeks, i have room for monsters, 1 400wt hps 14 plants got another 400watt on the way. im using a 6 gallon tubs for six plants and i have to fill it everyday. Think ill have to get a larger tub or switch to my ebb&flow i got laying around.

all my nodes on my clones are goofy, dont know why but they look healthy>
Looks to me like your clones were cut from a mom that was fully mature meaning it had alternating nodes already. Looks healthy to me happy growing.

I'm a soil guy switching over to hydro more specifically DWC. I made my first DWC tote the other night can see pic below.

My current grow is in my signature. I have a flower room and a veg/mother tent and working on my next cloning area. Should be harvesting in the next 5 weeks and then will be switching to these DWC totes. I do 0 veg SOG decided on 9 plants per tote to start with using 3.75" net pots. Will be using 2 totes in bloom room to begin with and then 4 when I get my other lights.

yo Dr Green thanx...well i had a ph issue and my ph keep wanting to go way too high so i added white vinegar and then i read some forums and i then thought it was a bad idea, so i washed my roots in the bath tub and changed the water. when i washed the roots alot of brownish water kept rinsing off. i use a semi light tea colored nutes (im using AN Connoisseur flower, AN Big Bud, AN Bud Candy, Botaincare Sweet Berry Carbo, & Snow Storm Ultra) and the roots are darker then the water by far. maybe a lil darker then the roots shown above...can i hurt the plant by giving it a pretty much being gentle root washing in room temp water? will the stress affect the final outcome when im 3 weeks from harvest? i wont have to wash em again just knowledge for next grow.... thanx.

I have read mixed reviews on Bud Candy. Is it worth using? Would it not make all bud taste the same, especially if you are growing a strain with a great known taste? I added some to my rez this change, 3rd week of flowering. I noticed the water is considerabley darker.

if it is a commercial air pump then you should have enough air...this is the one i use
Just going to chime in on air pumps. They should always be elevated above the water level to avoid water back flowing into the pump itself, causing it to seize up. Here is a pic for cred 6 bucket dwc under 4k OG Growlite hoods wk 4 veg. 2012-32013 251.jpg

Hello guys ive just started running a dwc system only the one bucket under a 300 watt cfl things have been going quite well apart from the plant maybe male so anyway ive done a few rez changes which have gone kinda well apart from the last one since my last rez change the plant seems to be doing very bad lower leaves are turning funny coulours and criping up the roots seem to be turning a horrible white and no idea why ph is 5.5 water ppm is under 200 and the ppms im giving the plant were around 700 which have been moved up week by week im also on my 4th week of veg I know this is only a male but I wanted to see how I got on with growing a plant before I tryed to grow something I may get product from

Sweet man. Looks like the DWC is out growing the soil grow as I am guessing the one on the left is in soil.

Ya the DWC has really out paced my soil one. As a growth rate, that last image was taken on the 12th. This one was taken yesterday, the 18th. :p. Having some hermie issues with the DWC but I am pretty confident its due to 1. it being bag seed 2. the crazy amount of stress this plant has been through while I get the hang of DWC. (one main example, me leaving for a week and coming back to have only an inch of water left in the bucket.) tons of flowers and only rare male parts though so I am going to finish it for at least learning exp. I am doing 4 DWC buckets with 4 clones of known genetics after these 2. Excited to know what I am taking care of :D.

Hey y'all! Just came across this thread & wanted to contribute! Love doing DWC & was a closet dirt pot farmer for years prior to this. I find DWC to be faster & easier to maintain than dirt; DWC is also much cleaner & I get higher yields when used in conjunction with a SCROG setup. I like the idea of a DWC only thread..everyone knows DWC MFers are so cool and exclusive we need a deadicated thread. I'll upload some new pics soon

First don't think in terms of how much your yield will be... That will come with exp. That being said it is possible to get even 8 oz or more per plant; that all depends upon too many factors to list here but if yield from a small space is your aim I recommend doing a SCROG- you don't need a full screen just something to tie your colas to in order to train them. I just make a simple net out a $3 clothesline & tie it the inside of my tent poles. Then you can get them really bushy by LST & super-cropping to create as many nodal areas as possible... Then flower them out. 250w will not support a lot of plants so the less the better (2 or 3 max unless doing SOG) and do a long veg say 5 weeks min. If you must use all 5 buckets then I would add side lighting and/or upgrade to 400w. I don't top feed though I've read that some growers have issues getting water & nutes to small seedlings or clones forcing them to start with a drip system. I got around this by starting my girls in an ebb & flow type timed system until the roots took it over & then used the same res to convert to DWC setup.
Many growers don't do this but I would consider revegging: you can go back to veg stage by changing your bulb & nutes & switching back to 24 hrs or 18/6 light cycle. This not only allows the popcorn on the bottom to get bigger but also you can do just a 3 week veg & right back into flower stage. Good luck

As deep as your res is as deep as it gets... I think you are trying to ask how deep below the waterline your pots should be....the answer is about 2-3"...I try to never let the waterline go much past the bottoms of your pots; I once let my water get too low & almost killed them by drying them out- biggest DWC mistake there is- some growers put a wooden dowel with a float underneath indicating water line-another good idea I have yet to implement in my setup
