DIY LED light

Hi,


I am trying to build a LED light.

I would like to string 10 of these lights together and plug them into the wall.

5 watt
430nm (hyper violet)
6-7 max forward voltage
700mA
1000-1200 mW radiant power (not sure if that matters)

I am confused on what parts i need and the logic/science behind how the volts amps and watts work. i am really here to learn i hope someone can help.

i believe the only parts i need are a heatsind and a 72 volt 50 watt 700mA driver....anyone actually know something about electrical engineering

Id try a multi chip or COB led light. Much easier to build and wire. Less total parts.

I dont know how the amps and shit works but its all probably pretty simple math. haha

What are you trying to build? A fixture for growing or just a supplemental fixture?

You won't grow much using only 430NM, but at high noon for a few hours the plants might love it [if supplemented with more a full spectrum...]

I would say split them into two groups using a 36v Driver for each loop. [should be less than that voltage wise as you will NOT be running them @ max voltage, due the technical complexities of manufacturing, running them @ Max voltage would probably not even produce 430nm spectrum, if you could keep the heat down at that]

These could probably be place on Aluminum sheeting or strips for heatsinking, but good heatsinks are to be found @ Heatsink USA or Ebay or anywhere you can get cheap Aluminum heatsinks.

I am building a hydroponic system for growing micro greens. because the plants are 16 days seed to harvest, i was thinking i only need chlorophyl a absorption during the vegetative stage which has a peak absorption rate of 430nm. and since inherently lettuce doesnt need that much light to grow, i believe these lights will be perfect for what im doing.

do i connect the driver directly to the 3 prong AC power adapter? or do i have to do something else?

it seems pretty easy other wise. just make sure i wire the LED chips in the right pattern, have enough voltage watts and proper amperage in the driver, attach the drivers to a 3 prong AC power adapter, plug into wall and done.

how will i wire the fan in?
 
also sorry its not really a ganja question but my plants are looking good and happy so ive been working on other projects, and it seems like the smartest minds gather on RIU!!

A pair of these would do the job. Very cheap and very efficient (88-90%) but you have to solder the ac wires on. They will run your string of 5 at about 625mA. Could be a long transit from China though.

These are twice the price and not as efficient but they will run harder 680-740mA. You would need a pair. Still cheaper than most other drivers out there.
