He's got name recognition and an outlaw image. Those two alone make him a threat.

Remember, they elected the star of 'Bonzo Goes to Washington'.

And that turned out well, didn't it?

Why wouldn't $2100 each be sufficient? After all, most people don't need a lot of medical care, freeing up money for those who do; it's the ultimate in shared risk pools.
If you bothered to do some googling yourself, you'd find that Americans spent a trillion dollars on health insurance premiums in 2015. That's 50% more than the entire defense budget. Total health care spending was $3.2 trillion, about $10,000 per person. Clearly, diverting 1% of the defense budget isn't going to make a dent in Americas health and education problems much less solve them.

Thank you for pointing out that insurance companies are enormously parasitic

I didn't disagree with that.

My point is that not only can we afford universal healthcare, but that if we enact it using the systems of other developed nations as a guide, we'll save an enormous amount of money in the process.

Indeed, the only thing standing in our way are all the corporations and insurance companies who make a very handsome living fucking us over.

Congress just passed a $700 billion defense budget. One percent of that is $7 billion. There are 325 million people in the USA. That's $21 (twenty one dollars) per person. I don't think a Jackson is going to cover anyone's education or healthcare for a year, sorry. Nor would the entire military budget be enough, which would amount to $2,100 per person.

Spending 30 seconds Googling something you read in your Facebook feed will save a lot of face later.
Funny math, since it only speaks to the budget, and not eliminating a ton of bases and associated equipment, civilian jobs, etc

I don't see liberals gutting health care for the poor to pay for more tax cuts for the rich.

Why would you support such cruelty, knowing that soon enough you'll need that same healthcare the politicians you support are dismantling?

Fuck American health care, we are the most expensive nation on earth for health care. I'd rather have the freedom to see a great doctor in Mexico for a fraction of the price of a rookie doctor in America. I know how to better spend my money than the government.

You're the one who mentioned one percent, so there's nothing wrong with his math.

I agree with you that you can cut the 'defense' budget a lot more and actually improve American security.

What I neglected to mention was the "Contractor Budget" which is separated from the so-called military budget. Many of whom are x military mercenaries getting quite a bit more money than our soldiers, and are not bound by the same rules of engagement. As I recall, there was ~ 70,000 of them in Iraq

Also the money we give to the military industrial complex for planes, tanks, ships, bombs, ammunition...
