Examples of Nutrient Burn Progression

I'm pretty familiar with what the tell tale signs of nutrient burn are. However, it got me thinking how do you differentiate nutrient burn progression getting worse vs another deficiency you are trying to address. For example, the plant shows nutrient burn symptoms but also shows signs of what could be potassium deficiency. You add more potassium, but now the condition has progressed. I know what mid to late stage potassium deficiency looks like, but I can't find anything for burn beyond it starting with the tips and spreading to the other points on the leaves. What happens after that? If your plant had no other issues except nutrient burn, what appearance would the leaves have as you continue to burn them? I've had worse burn result in more of the tips turning brown and eventually curling, but beyond that will burn then start to fry entire leaves and turn them brown and crispy? Will the burn just continue to progress up the points of the leaf? I couldn't find any good examples of what burn looks like if it just keeps getting worse and worse.
