First Grow 10 plants!

First off, I would forget about dunking them in a 5 gallon bucket to water them.

2nd, I'm curious what kind of soil you have? what kind of mixture? How much Perlite? If you have no Perlite in your soil mix then I would say dunking them in a 5 gallon bucket prolly severely overwatered your plants & you need to give them some time b4 watering again.

As for when & how much to water.... well I would suggest picking up your pots regularly & get familiar w/ the weight of them (assuming they are the same size & soil mixture), by doing this you will get a feel for how heavy they are after watering (heavy) & how they feel when they need watering (light). There will be a significant difference in weight between a plant that needs water & a plant that has plenty of water in the soil. In fact I simply go by weight & I don't water all plants @ the same time, every time. You may have some plants that are taking up water & growing while others are not. & if you water all of them then the plants that didn't need water will then be overwatered & that will only hurt their chances of catching up to the plants that are growing. So in a small grow I say go plant by plant, judging by the weight. If you have a huge grow then that just turns into too much work & you need to make a rigid schedule. But I don't think that's the case in your situation. For now I say don't water, stick your finger in the soil & wait for it to get good & dry b4 you water again. & like i said, pick up your pots each day if you can & start getting a feel for what the pots should weigh.

Again... did you add perlite to your soil?

bro, i don't know if dunking them in water is THAT bad of an idea.... i have 6 plants in coco in 2 liter pop bottles that are doing great... plus i have become intimately familiar with my girls this way :)

Maybe it's not a bad idea for some. I apolagize. I just fear that he may have no perlite or anything else in the soil to aid drainage & in that case I would think that it would be too much water.

I think having alot of drainage in soil, enough so you can water every 2 or 3 days & have them dried out so roots are getting plenty of oxygen is preferably.

I worry if there's no perlite & soil is very heavy then he dunks & soil is wet for 1 week or maybe more before you can give it water & nutes again. And even then the roots have very little time to be aereated.

That's just my thinking though. I don't claim to be an expert. I only know what I've dealt with. But one of the mistakes I made was not using any Perlite in my soil so that's why I posted what I did.

You are in big trouble with no perlite or vermiculite in the soil.
Ya may have to restart.
If ya do ya want to start them in little ass cups. Like 3x3

i have a 400 watt hps light, and a 10 inch fan blowing on them, temp stays high 80s, have half a bag of the soil left so ill be good on that, and can i get perlite at ace hardware?

Buy it any where. Dont buy the mircale grow kind of perlite it has nutes in it.(some do some dont) Make sure the stuff ya buy dnt have it.
Put your seeds in water and they will be ready to plant tomorrow.
Get some little ass containers so ya can control watering and so forth.
1 or 2 bags of perlite you will be fine. The good thing is the shit is cheap. Boy i wish i knew of your soil earlier.

We will get your grow going.

in the morning i will go grab some pertile and some red dixie cups for the seeds....
how much pertile should i put per plant? or per dixxie cup
will they be fine with 400 watt hps light or just i turn that off and throw my 2 ft flourecent back on them???
as long as the 400 watt wont burn them up id rather just use that....right now its 86 in there and highest it gets is like 92

I germinated my seeds using 1/3 perlite and 2/3 Foxfire Farms Ocean Forest soil. I have them under 2 4ft T12 shop lights that puts off a total of 160 watts. I planted 12 seeds after soaking them for 24 hrs, and today, (the third day) all of them have sprouted but 2.
Just my opinion, but I think the 400 watt bulb might be a little too hot for starting seedlings. They seem to really like my flouro tubes, and I can have them so close that there is no stretching or burn yet. The temp right under the lights is a steady 84 without a fan. I am adding a fan today to strengthen up the stocks but as of right now, it has been the easiest start up this way, and cheap... I got the two shop lights from home deopt for $9 a piece, and they plug into the wall, really NO set up whatsoever. This is my setup only for starting the seedlings and clones. Maybe you could do something like this and use your 400 watt for the rest of the veg. cycle....

How much is a tough question. Ya almost cant add too much but ya can add too little. When i added it i went like 3 hand fulls of dirt to 1 hand full of perlite/vermiculite. Some thing like that.
I would use the shop lights.
I would take the beer cups and cut the top off so ya have about 3 inches of the cup left. I take a razor blade to slice the bottom edge for drainage.
Plant those seeds after ya soaked them no matter what they look like. Dnt wait for the root to come out. Xvliljessivx is doing it correct. Read his post for more info.

argggg... i had similar things.. planted a few seeds last saturday morning (so this is day 5) and i let them sit in water for a day and all that happened to them was they all cracked , i put them all in their own cup, moist same MG organic and one of them has poked the surface(on day 3) just the white spout and it got bigger to bout an inch then stopped and has been there for 2 days... it goes straight up then falls down and kinda is going all over but no leaves... the rest are still in the dirt...

now does it need light once its poked up out of the surface and its sprout with no leaves? or keep it in dark/warm/moist till leaves come up?

i am convinced once i see the leaves or any green i can keep it alive, im just stumped how i cant get past germ and sprouting... but its day 5 and some oldd ass seeds...

any ideas? (not trying to thread jack or whatever also, just seems to fit )
Don't know about Cannabis seeds but if you put the any plant sprout in upside down with the tip of the root up instead of down, it will grow up and then try and grow back down into the soil but it will not grow leaves as the wrong side is up. This could be your problem. If it is continuing to grow white looking stem with no leaves i'd bet that is the root tip!!!

Setting out water does nothing these days! Water used to be decontaminated with chlorine which would evaporate after 24 hours. Now they used a chemical called chloramine. It does not evaporate. You need spring water or distilled water, or perhaps someone in here can tell you a way of getting the chloramine out of your water. I think a charcoal filter can do it.

everywhere i read is saying that vermiculite is bad to because it will create bud rot....and i should get the mg perlite and just soak it for 24 hours and it will get the nutes out????
wat do u think???
will the vermiculite fuk it all up again? or will it work
