think about it

you're gonna wait for little mushrooms to start growing, then dunk the cake in water for 24hr, then coat it with vermiculite, then the mushrooms are supposed to grow?

if your cakes are in the dark, they might not pin

if your cakes pin, they might not like getting drowned in water

i don't know, i've only done cakes a few times and only dunked/rolled once after the cake had flushed.

i found it best to fruit cakes as soon as possible, as soon as the whole outside of the cake was colonized.

i think that if you wait for invitro, meaning you wait until you see pinning in the jars then you should not dunk and just let the cakes be birthed and let the present pins flourish into mushrooms.

if you do not wait for the invitro or pinning in the jars and birth when the mycelium is fully colonized then dunking or 24hours is acceptable.

if you have already harvested a flush then dunking would be acceptable to start a second flush.

i have not had the greatest of luck with these things and that info above is just what i have read in the past few months.

i think i agree with nashbar, that if you already have the pinning then birth the cakes and let them grow mushrooms. dunk after you harvest then replace into the F/C.

good luck and i plan on starting my next newest batch at the end of this week. f strain, hawian strain and z strain.

Both of you have good points along the same line. So are you saying I can birth one ? or move jars into light to induce pinning?

u are implying that you have more than one cake. yes you could do both as sort of a little exp for your own knowledge.

you can birth a cake when jar is complete and dunk/roll.

your other jar/s you can wait until you see pinning like in the pftek pictures then birth and not dunk.

you can also birth at full jar completion and not dunk/roll. as i did. it worked and four cakes produced mushrooms without dunking and rolling. BUT i did eventually lose them all to contamination and was not able to produce a second flush.

my next bout will be with the dunk and roll technique as the replenishment of water to the cakes should increase yield and flushes.

good luck and post pics.

p.s. i would go with nashbar's advice as he seems to have a good pattern and produces lots of mushies. i am trying to get to a point of emulating him by casing the cakes atleast.

where do u get these from and do they ship to everywhere in the us ?link please

spores101.com
hawkseye.com
there are a few more. do a google.

READ THE FINE PRINT.

there are three states that don't allow it and the suppliers know which three and blatantly say it on each of their sites so READ THE FINE PRINT before ordering.

IF you don't live in one of those states then you should be fine. take what ever precautions you feel needed. i have ordered for the second time from spores101 and was happy with the first order.

i recommend them although they are not the fastest, but one of the cheapest and have the most varieties i have seen IN STOCK.
