whether or not you like it, mr. fitch, hip-hop music IS the most INFLUENTIAL genre on the airwaves today. the hip-hop we listen to today is not hip hop. it's club music. listen to some old school hip-hop and you'll see how it really voiced the issues and concerns of african americans in the late 80s, early 90s. i don't think Ice-T's "Cop Killer" is an admirable song, yet it does speak of the hate felt by minorities towards abusive police. IT IS A PART OF HISTORY, WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT.

and there were tejanos fighting alongside gringos at the alamo too, whether you like it or not.

and thomas jefferson was one of the founding fathers, whether he was christian or deist...

and all that stuff you know but you take for granted won't be taught in school anymore.

i'm an atheist, but i grew up in a christian house, i was taught since i was a kid about the bible and I know it. i didn't appreciate that until i met a teen who grew up atheist, didn't even know what the bible was.... i felt sorry for him because he wasn't as fortunate as me to have been taught about religion, and then when i grew up i made my choice, an informed choice... i took that knowledge for granted....

it's one thing to be taught about everything, and then to create a point of view. this is what we should be doing.

it is another to subject our kids to voluntary ignorance, and expect them to grow into more enlightened and knowledgeable people.

this type of playing around with what kids learn is hurting the US educational system, making american students dumber and dumber, and will contribute to the decline of the US state.

Sorry to burst your bubble, But Body Count was not Hip-Hop..

Regardless that it came from Iced T...

And hip hop is nothing to teach in school unless it is in a music class..And that would be pushing it (Not real music anyway)

And you think teaching something about hip hop is a good thing..Come on now

Dude.. come on, it's obviously more than learning about the music. There was a MASSIVE movement into the genre of music that influenced countless peoples lives. In the same way that the words of the founding fathers influenced great thinkers who came after them, the same thing happens with music, and yes, even rap and hip hop.

Ever wonder why Bill OReilly and the rest of the mainstream media gets so bent out of shape when some new popular rap song comes out? Because it's a threat to them, a threat to their way of pushing right wing propaganda or a political agenda. There's no political agenda involved in rapping, only truth as experienced by the rapper.

Cop Killer is one of the best examples. Fuck the Police also comes to mind as a great rap song. This music is a form of protest, and it's completely non violent, what more could someone ask for?

FUCK THE POLICE - NWA

Right about now NWA court is in full effect.
Judge Dre presiding in the case of NWA versus the police department.
Prosecuting attourneys are MC Ren Ice Cube and Eazy muthafuckin E.
Order order order. Ice Cube take the muthafuckin stand.
Do you swear to tell the truth the whole truth
and nothin but the truth so help your black ass?

Why don't you tell everybody what the fuck you gotta say?

Fuck tha police
Comin straight from the underground
Young nigga got it bad cuz I'm brown
And not the other color so police think
They have the authority to kill a minority

Fuck that shit, cuz I ain't tha one
For a punk muthafucka with a badge and a gun
To be beatin on, and throwin in jail
We could go toe to toe in the middle of a cell

Fuckin with me cuz I'm a teenager
With a little bit of gold and a pager
Searchin my car, lookin for the product
Thinkin every nigga is sellin narcotics

You'd rather see me in the pen
Then me and Lorenzo rollin in the Benzo
Beat tha police outta shape
And when I'm finished, bring the yellow tape
To tape off the scene of the slaughter
Still can't swallow bread and water

I don't know if they fags or what
Search a nigga down and grabbin his nuts
And on the other hand, without a gun they can't get none
But don't let it be a black and a white one
Cuz they slam ya down to the street top
Black police showin out for the white cop

Ice Cube will swarm
On any muthafucka in a blue uniform
Just cuz I'm from the CPT, punk police are afraid of me
A young nigga on a warpath
And when I'm finished, it's gonna be a bloodbath
Of cops, dyin in LA
Yo Dre, I got somethin to say

Fuck the police (4X)

M. C. Ren, will you please give your testimony to the jury about this fucked up incident.>

Fuck tha police and Ren said it with authority
because the niggaz on the street is a majority.
A gang, is with whoever I'm stepping
and the motherfuckin' weapon
is kept in a stash box, for the so-called law
wishin' Ren was a nigga that they never saw

Lights start flashin behind me
But they're scared of a nigga so they mace me to blind me
But that shit don't work, I just laugh
Because it gives em a hint not to step in my path

To the police I'm sayin fuck you punk
Readin my rights and shit, it's all junk
Pullin out a silly club, so you stand
With a fake assed badge and a gun in your hand

But take off the gun so you can see what's up
And we'll go at it punk, I'ma fuck you up

Make ya think I'm a kick your ass
But drop your gat, and Ren's gonna blast
I'm sneaky as fuck when it comes to crime
But I'm a smoke em now, and not next time

Smoke any muthafucka that sweats me
Or any assho that threatens me
I'm a sniper with a hell of a scope
Takin out a cop or two, they can't cope with me

The muthafuckin villian that's mad
With potential to get bad as fuck
So I'm a turn it around
Put in my clip, yo, and this is the sound
Ya, somethin like that, but it all depends on the size of the gat

Takin out a police would make my day
But a nigga like Ren don't give a fuck to say

Fuck the police (4X)

Police, open now. We have a warrant for Eazy-E's arrest.
Get down and put your hands up where I can see em.

I'm tired of the muthafuckin jackin
Sweatin my gang while I'm chillin in the shackin
Shining tha light in my face, and for what
Maybe it's because I kick so much butt

I kick ass, or maybe cuz I blast
On a stupid assed nigga when I'm playin with the trigga
Of any Uzi or an AK
Cuz the police always got somethin stupid to say

They put up my picture with silence
Cuz my identity by itself causes violence
The E with the criminal behavior
Yeah, I'm a gansta, but still I got flavor

Without a gun and a badge, what do ya got?
A sucka in a uniform waitin to get shot,
By me, or another nigga.
and with a gat it don't matter if he's smarter or bigger

And as you all know, E's here to rule
Whenever I'm rollin, keep lookin in the mirror

Dumb muthafucka with a gun

And if I'm rollin off the 8, he'll be tha one
That I take out, and then get away
And while I'm drivin off laughin
This is what I'll say

Fuck the police (4X)

Here's the formula to 80% of all hip-hop:

1. Claim you're the world's best MC. Your claim should include boasts of sexual prowess or physical toughness (preferably both)
2. State that all other MCs are either substandard or homosexual. Threatening violence is ok.
3. Reference your high net worth.
4. Describe in detail the material goods your high net worth affords you.
5. Include at least one reference to a club. Make sure it contains the words "Cristal" and "VIP" .
6. Don't forget the bitches in the club. As a rule of thumb, if there's no bitches, it's not hip-hop.
7. Describe how the bitches are impressed with either: a) the size of your financial estate, b) the size of your *****, or c) both.
8. Brag about how your large______ enabled you to have sexual relations with the bitches and then send them packing.
9. Reiterate your claim as being the world's best MC.
10. Give a shoutout to your producer.

You're still missing the bigger point behind the actual music and the history of it's origins. Who gives a flying fuck about individual rappers, that's not what this is about, it's about PROTEST. Teaching kids the history of NON VIOLENT PROTEST THROUGH MUSIC. One of America's most influential mediums.

It's your job to protect your kids from things you don't want them to see.

The problem you just outlined isn't the rap music, it's terrible parenting.

The only people who buy the load of crap in these songs are white guilt feeling morons from the suburbs who know nothing about how things really are. I'm in the ghetto every day and I assure you your imagination isn't vivid enough to even fathom the kind of crime and other sub-human shit I see. If those animals want to bitch about how unfair everything is while looking to rob, steal, rape, murder and do every other despicable act known to man they can, they can sing into my fucking Glock.

Get a clue man, those songs are made for no other purpose than to make money and to pull the wool over the eyes of white suburban idiots who are feeble minded enough to buy that white guilt crap.

Thanks for expressing your homicidal rage towards those not like you, Rick. You are always good for that.

I was just reading around and think we may want to put in a distinction here, for the sake of folks like Rick, a distinction between 'hip hop culture' and 'gangsta rap'....

Early hip hop has often been credited with helping to reduce inner-city gang violence by replacing physical violence with hip hop battles of dance and artwork. However, with the emergence of commercial and crime-related rap during the early 1990s, an emphasis on violence was incorporated, with many rappers boasting about drugs, weapons, misogyny, and violence. While hip hop music now appeals to a broader demographic, media critics argue that socially and politically conscious hip hop has long been disregarded by mainstream America in favor of its media-baiting sibling, gangsta rap.[84]

while you are all getting lost in the debate over the dubious merits of what is loosely called music, you seem to be missing the rather obvious message of the original post. whether you like it or not, it shows the failure of state run schooling and the inherent insanity of allowing politicians to decide the basis for education. it is just another example of agenda driven policy and its detrimental effects on our children.

personally, i find it all a bit humorous that the educational system, so long a bastion of liberalism, should be so amazed that the more conservative elements of society are finally pushing back. up to now it has been only the occasional school or district that has attempted to fight the tide of mediocrity with its own version of failure.

No. You misunderstood my post. I used the founding fathers as an example of the way words, like the lyrics in rap music, can influence entire groups of people. Have you ever read rap lyrics? Did you read the ones I posted for Fuck the Police? Do you understand the message that song is telling?

WTF? What right wing agenda are you talking about? You mean like not committing crime and beating women? You mean like being a productive member of society? Yep, thats some real Right wing propaganda alright.
I mean the conservative Christian right wing agenda that the fundamental sect of the Republican party has taken over. An example of what I mean is my personal public education, I just realized this week I hadn't ever learned of the Oklahoma City bombing or the causes and influences for why it happened when I was growing up going through school. I didn't learn much about the WTC bombing the first time in 93... Our public education system is designed to tell kids "America is great, and anyone opposed to America is an enemy" - it's selective learning, we learn the good things America did - which there are plenty - but never the bad things, never the stuff that makes America look like there might actually be some things wrong with her. What's wrong with pointing out the things in one's own society that are bad for that society? Internal criticism is non existent in the American public education system, and there IS DEFINITELY something wrong with that.

I grew up my entire life wanting to join the Air Force, I totally bought into all the propaganda, I was to the point of being inside the recruiters office my jr year in high school considering signing the papers. I understand the mindset, what hooked me onto the idea and what turned me completely against it. Our education systems perpetuate this imperial viewpoint. How many times have you ever heard a foreigner label Americans as "dumb" - it's the international stereotype we carry, it's embarrassing. How many people do you know who could name at least 3/4 of African nations? Bet a lot of Africans could list each state...

We learn what the people in charge of education want us to learn as we grow up, what we learn influences our entire life and the decisions we make. The internet is rendering that tactic useless as we can now educate ourselves on history with an unbiased viewpoint, a look at history without looking through the American window. If nothing else, it's multiple viewpoints that all carry a bias, but that's why you investigate more than one source. Currently, the American education system only provides one, and that's the one that wants to keep your kids thinking and believing it's somehow noble to die for a silver piece of metal in the shape of a star they give to their mother at their funeral. It somehow serves the greater good to travel thousands of miles to invade nations rich men with the only interest of getting richer decided was the enemy, the terrorist... Somehow honorable, noble, they do it to protect our rights...

The only people who buy the load of crap in these songs are white guilt feeling morons from the suburbs who know nothing about how things really are. I'm in the ghetto every day and I assure you your imagination isn't vivid enough to even fathom the kind of crime and other sub-human shit I see. Such a pity you only see the "animals" and not the equal human beings. One day when you need something, you might change your mind my friend.

Get a clue man, those songs are made for no other purpose than to make money and to pull the wool over the eyes of white suburban idiots who are feeble minded enough to buy that white guilt crap.

But you also got to clone styles, and no motif
See me rappin' on yo TV actin
And it's a fact that when you see us in person
Think we gon flex, or show you no action
Down for mine, got to show a nigga time to time
So I figure I'll slow down the rhyme
So they can understand I'm filled with so much anger and pain
And if I drop, then I'll explode like a fuckin grenade nigga
Fuck calm, time to ring the alarm
Breakin' niggas out of prison killin all the guards (Woo!)
Power to the people, givin people the power
To put it down in your city
And fuck them hillbillies
Nigga, I can't stand no
Motherfuckin po-po
When will we start killin these bitches and takin no mo'?

And dissin chin checkers in the making
So nigga continue with the rotatation (rotation, rotation, rotation)

[Chorus]

[Bizzy]

Without pistols, the police ain't strong
Finna bomb, bitch, you fuckin wit all the black gat peeps

Jus pick up my cannon, nigga, yeah yeah
Hear the pump, it erupt
We're corrupt as the four, down to buck
Come and get fucked up
And get up outta the county, nigga get rowdy

Disappear-pear, in a ally
Reappear-pear, off in Cali
Can you feel me, daddy?
Proudly handle stuff like a man
And went through shit in Cleveland
With the band
Now look at me platinum
Fuck the rap, and corner bitch made hation nation
Nowadays an occupation
So why you hate me? Still can't fade me away
Go on, be gone
The point of view was made with the song
And while they pop, I'm ready to bomb (bomb bomb bomb)

[Chorus]

[Layzie]
How do you see me when you see me?
Drinkin' on Hennesy and Remy
Look into my eyes, my shit is dreamy
Beggin to Scotty, "Won't you beam me up?"
I buck, 12 gauge erupt, disrupt your order, infantry
Ya'll better expect annihalation fuckin' around with the SCT
And I better be a souljah organizer, but they're lovin just us
Army see, full of harmony, and nigga 'In Thugs We Trust'
So nigga I bust, so back up off me
Givin' no mercy, shit is critical
Killin' you individual with a Ouija type ritual
I'm diggin a ditch for all you po-po who felt you could come & raid me
Ain't no way to be safe
Nigga, this the army brigade
So listen up and hear what's spoken
As I start this locomotion
Retaliate because we chosen
Open showin the Lord his devotion

[Chorus]

[Wish]
Now when you're fuckin' with me
Make sure you know what you're doin
Got niggas knowin, rollin with me
Infra red to yo head, don't beg, you dead, we fled
Gotta get away
Gotta make sure I'm free so when you need me I can buck another day

Eternally bless my soul, Lord
And everybody that rides with me:
It's from me to you.
It's from me to you (me to you)

What we see above are perfect examples of why our schools are in such desperate need of an overhaul. You have Dukeofbaja who labels everything as racist, homophobic, sexist, etc, because he lacks the mental dexterity to do anything more. And, you have good old Padawan who has jumped into Left wing extremism with both feet and has become mired down in it so far that he actually mistakes Left wing bullshit and profit motivated "crap music" as some kind of "truth" that is a cure for an imaginary Right wing agenda that has prevailed in our schools.

People with objective minds teach that America has been a tremendous force for good on this planet because it has - not because of any agenda. Young children are not taught about horrible things that go on because those things are not deemed appropriate for children. These things are left for later as they should be.

But let's look at one of the bad things about America that is taught in high school - the slave trade. Now, most of us probably learned something along the lines of the following:

Before the white European came, all Blacks lived wonderful, free lives in Africa. Then the Whites came over and captured them and brought them to America under horrendous conditions and by the millions. They would live under brutal slavery for 200 years until finlay they were freed by Lincoln. Now the left claims that it was a dispute between the N and S that ended slavery.

Here is what really happened:

Slavery has always been an unfortunate part of the human condition. In Africa, there was and still is a ruling class and a slave class. When America was settled, the settlers purchased slaves owned by black North Africans through the Muslims who controlled the region and who ran the slave trade and continue to do so in some areas to this day. In fact, far more Blacks owned slaves than did Whites.

And, they brought the slaves back to America in far fewer numbers than taught in school. We know this because they only had small wood sailing ships and the logistics of transporting very expensive slaves from Africa was limiting. Though not a pretty sight, most slaves arrived in good shape because the money paid for them was based on their health. A slave was worth around $100,000 or more in today's dollars.

Although slavery is intrinsically evil and wretched, slaves were treated like $100,000 investments and only the wealthy owned them. There were laws regarding treatment of slaves and of selling their children. Later, however, things did get quite ugly. And of course, this in no way suggests that slavery is any less atrocious.

Many of our founding fathers, including those who themselves owned slaves, argued that slavery was immoral and led the charge in its eradication. And this argument was based 100% on Christian teachings. Though there was nothing unique about white Christians owning slaves, what was unique to white Christians was the effort to eradicate it. Based on their religious values, white Christians, starting with the British, took to the seas and began intercepting the Muslim slave ships. In America, a movement was underway to outlaw slavery. This, and only this, led to the South attempting to secede from the Union which of course led to the civil war.

Another interesting tid bit is that the law regarding slaves as 2/3 of a vote was not a racial issue. The South wanted them included as a full vote and the North of course didn't want them counted. They settled on 2/3 of a vote - it was a power struggle.

Also, the Jim Crow laws were actually the first affirmative action program. The concern was that companies would employ only ex-slaves and Chinese immigrants who would work for slave wages. This was seen as taking away jobs from regular citizens so they passed Jim Crow as a method of affirmative action - strange huh?

Now which version did you learn in high school? Chances are, you learned the Left wing version that paints America as uniquely responsible for slavery and not the true version in which the white, Christian Europeans were uniquely responsible for ending it.

So, you see, it is the Left who has hijacked our schools and poisoned the minds of our youth. That is where we get people like Duke and Padawan. They are products of Left wing indoctrination - unable to think, but convinced they are enlightened thinkers. They are obsessed with finding fault with what really is the greatest country ever created and they are ignorant to how wrong they are in their beliefs.

One thing I have found in my 40 plus years of life is that in the final analysis most things in life are pretty much what they seem and life is really pretty simple. Hard work, clean living and good choices are the key to success. Social norms and standards are there for a reason - because they are good for us and help us do good and prosper.

I have been down the road of Liberalism and I have wrestled with all the Liberal ideas - much more so than most of you. Only those with the insight and the ability reach the end of that road. As someone who has been down that road and who has followed it to the end, I am here to tell you that the end is reached when one comes full circle.

There is no reason to send kids down a long mental road knowing that many (like those here) will become lost along the way. What should be taught in school are the basic fundamental principles that make us good people and make our great Country great. There is nothing mysterious about any of this. Question it all you want, but if you have the mental wherewithal to reason it through and come full circle, you will only find that you could have saved yourself a lot of trouble by simply going with the flow.

So very objective is Rick that he has just labeled the entire hip hop culture movement as 'crap music'. So very objective.

You might want to note that I came out of public schools with very different beliefs then the ones I have now. I was rah rah shish boom bah for manifest destiny and yay for America. It was only after learning what was not taught in public school, like the real story of Thanksgiving and the genocide of native peoples, that I started to get away from those previous beliefs.

And I don't label everything as racist, just statements that express racism. Like this gem:

If those animals want to bitch about how unfair everything is while looking to rob, steal, rape, murder and do every other despicable act known to man they can, they can sing into my fucking Glock.

I got a pro America-slanted taste of some of it in AP History in Arizona (shitty schools there). But never learned the true story of Thanksgiving or many other things that would make America look like the bunch of brutal savages we are. Not even in the liberal bastion of New Jersey, where I was schooled until 8th grade.

Like I said, if you actually READ some of the lyrics you would have a better understanding of what I'm talking about.

Of course it's profit motivated, that's capitalism Rick, that's how the world works. Now you're rallying against capitalism, or better yet saying that's the ONLY motivation for rappers to create music? That's ignorance.

No. Young children aren't taught about things that show America in a not so pleasant light because that would influence the mind of the child and maybe make them question things a little more, or look a little more closely at causes/effects of American international influence. This is contrary to getting kids to strap on the uniform and join the military to go fight for America's greatness.

This really is basic stuff, I don't see how you could argue with it.

Have you ever read the bible? There's quite a bit of slavery going on in there... How do you reconcile that with what you just said?

Material that never gets touched on, or very briefly;

-Waco/Ruby Ridge

-OK City bombing

-WTC1

-USS Cole

-Sadaam and Iraq were friends in the 80's but enemies in the 90's, why?

-emphasis on causes of WW1 and WW2

-drug war

-war on terror

I could go on and on.

Your excuse for why our public education system doesn't teach kids about these things is because they're not for a child's mind? Kids can't understand it?

...yeah... sure it is. :dunce:
