I had a bat in my livingroom the other day. My girlfriend and I got a blanket, streatched it out and encouraged it back outside. Never saw Tommy Boy?
it works and I didn't have to kill it with a pellet gun......

you are not going to get rabies lol:peace:

Likely not.... but the possibility DOES exist! There are very few cases of rabies in the US each year.... but the majority of rabies cases reported are from bat bites.

Again... not trying to spread paranoia.... just stating the fact that a bat of unknown origin could very well be carrying diseases that you don't want around your family.... or your plants.

BTW.... if bitten by an animal where rabies is a possibility but the animal isn't caught to test..... the treatment is lengthy and not pleasant. Although not as painful as treatments used to be (which was a series of shots with VERY LARGE needles through the abdominal wall ), it is still a long and painful treatment.

Personally I wouldn't knowingly risk it.

I have had bats in my loft many times. The best thing you can do is get 4-5 candles, a boombox, your mp3 player with headphones, your phone and a tuning fork( if you dont have a tuning fork , two pieces of metal work as long as the resinate) Calmly walk down to your basement, place the candles all around except for the exit, light them, then place your mp3 player on high to the right of the exit (about 5-6 feet off) and the boombox on medium with static (no channel am/fm) to the left then stand accross from the exit, once it takes flight start hitting the tuning fork or your metal. This is a bit much, and a bit mcguiver ish but it works every time, it messes up the bats sensory detection, they will find the way they got in or the exit and they will flee in confusion. it may be extreme, but i had about 30 6 week females in my loft so they needed to get out.

Goodluck

you could just get an animal trap and put some fruit or a rat/mouse in there. Im sure he'll come in to eat at night and viola. then release away from your house :D

I imagine putting insects in the animal trap theyll just crawl fly out. lol. but seriously.... put a trap down. it wont harm it and you wont have to do anything except pick the trap up.

it might depend on what type of bat it is so you might want to see what kind of bats live in your area but im sure a rodent will attract any bat.

what do bats eat?

Letsgrow - I'm dying to know what happened it the batting cage over the weekend!
yeah! we want a bodycount!..send us a pic of your dragon-con batslayer suit( I picture a police dog training suit in chrome silver, with a samurai helmet and a hockey mask..oh yes!; and yellow rubber gloves and boots!). and of course no self respecting batslayer would be complete without fully equipped bat belt and weapons! "cheerleaders! help me out.."..I'm thinking- the tennis racket, with deer whistles to further frighten the bat; wrapped in cyalume tubes for that glow in the dark tracer effect!(I need ANOTHER hit!)...C'MON people! help me with the weapons and equipment for the bat belt!

chill out!!! that bat is afraid of the giant monster with a broom! just chill! for christ'sakes! bats operate on radar.they will not(unless you happen to be the bride of fenkenstein!) get stuck in your hair! in fact they can(and do) fly within inches of your head. they are WAY too nimble to hit you(unless you're talking about 100,000 trying to exit a cave!). they need to eat in excess of 2,000 mosquitoes a night! and any other bugs as well...just name it, and quit thrashing about! you'll give it a complex!!!
I read this whole thread.

Hillbilly, you are a good person. BATS are not that bad at all. Even Though I have killed my share.
You fly? you take the chance to die.
