hey man congrats on your harvest i cant believe how much you got off 1 plant!!!! I hope i get as much of mine and will definately be trying the method you used next time!!! Not long before I should be harvesting so cannot wait! I hope you manage to get a few more off the remaining plant, reckon that is a good idea man and think that i will try the same as got plenty of buds that could be something if only i could get more light there!!

Thanks Ladbrooke, how far along are you into flowering now? And I went by tonight and trimmed everything left on the plant off. I filled a Wal-Mart bag with popcorn sized nugs. I laid them out on a table in my tent and I'm letting them dry over night...will probably end up freezing and using for when I make bubble hash in a week or so. It's looking like I'll end up with about 6oz of dry buds, with about 2-3 ozs of what could be popcorn nugs going to make hash. Definitely pleased for my first attempt at hydro, can only get better from here on out :D Post some pics of your ladies if you can.

Thanks pukka, its been a hell of a ride but I finally made it. Now it can only get better from here! And I plan on going just a little bigger next grow if I can afford it, at least 1000w and two grow units in a bigger tent. If worse comes to worse I'll run one more grow through the setup I have now...I have a Vanilla Kush seed just begging to be germinated, think I'll get on that later tonight. Also need to order another strain to fill up my second unit...Any suggestions?

And about how long does it usually take for buds to air dry before going into jars? I've had them hanging for about 3 days now, at a temp of 70 with 50-60 percent humidity. The outsides are feeling pretty dry at this point, especially the smaller less dense buds. The small pop-corn nugs I didn't hang felt similar last night so I put them in a jar, and about an hour later I opened them to find they felt pretty fresh/wet again so I removed them....I want to get the curing process right, so I don't want to over-dry and lose the ability to cure at all, but I don't want to go into jars too early and cause them to mold.

I hung mine for about 3-4 days. I squeezed them and the outsides were crunchy so I threw them in jars. I then dumped out of the jars for about 20min everyday. Congrats on a job well done.

Thats about where I'm currently at puff...I hung them for 3 and a 1/2 days til the outsides were pretty dry/crunchy, but I could tell there was still moisture on the insides. Put them in jars from 1am til 12pm...just took them out and they all seem a bit moist again, similar to when they were fresh but not quite that wet...Have them laying out on my bed for about 10 minutes, guess I'll wait another 10 or so then jar them back up.

Yep that's how it's done. You'll have to unjar them everyday for around a week and then the cure begins.

Okay so I went by tonight to clean out the tent, and I noticed a bud I had trimmed about 2 to 3 days prior to clipping the plant. It had just been hanging behind the tent air drying...It was pretty dry to the touch, and it smelled DELICIOUS. It smelled exactly how the plant smelled before clipped, like fruity goodness. Now...This was not jarred, simply air dried for about 8 days now and it smelled awesome. However the buds I've had in the jar still smell really sweet/grassy, and they're pretty moist in comparison to the bud I found tonight. Basically what I'm getting at is will the buds I have in jars obtain this same smell? Also, for it to have been simply air drying it was remarkably smooth and didn't taste bad at all...I just want what I have in the jars to come out the same, except better since they are going through the curing process.
Hopefully I'm doing this right. Any input? It seems like all I'm doing with the jars is SLOWLY drying the buds, as they can feel pretty dry to the touch when put in the jars, then when removed to let them breathe they're all pretty moist again. This cycle repeats every day, twice a day.

Yeah the smell will return. I'm in my 2week in the jars and they have a strong coffee aroma but the sweetness is coming thru

Yeah the earthy/coffee/grassy aroma is what I have right now as well...Any idea as to why the bud that just air dried for a while smelled so good? I thought smell was obtained through the curing process, when organic compounds break down to form other compounds, as well as terpenes contributing to the aroma, not just air drying til its smokeable lol.

I think what you've discovered here is that the bud you already have jarred could well have used another few days of drying, and maybe given a bit more fresh air in the drying room. The clincher here is that you may have dried your buds a bit too fast, but you'll be fine in the end once they've had a chance in the jars to catch up and continue on with the cure. I've done the exact same thing a few times and have found that I didn't need as much 'airflow' around the hang-drying buds and in fact needed more fresh-air circulating, and a few extra days hanging (6-8 days I've found is about right). My curing bud has retained that 'cut-grass' or 'green' smell before, but will eventually turn sweeter (or skunkier depending on the strain) as it cures.... just mey 2 c. :joint:

That would make sense as far as them needing another day or so to dry out, but I'm pretty sure I didn't dry them out too fast. That was really my main concern with the whole process, as I know once you dry them too much the ability to cure properly is pretty much lost. How does drying them too fast and them needing a few more days to dry out even work together? I kept the room circulating with fresh air, but I didn't have any direct air blowing on the buds themselves. I'm contemplating taking them out of the jars and letting them air dry over night, then re-jarring when I wake up.

Finally figured it out, just needed to let them air dry for a couple hours then rejar. Guess it takes curing a time or two to get the feel down for moisture content, think I'm slowly learning, its starting to ripen up a bit in the smell department, as well as smoothness/taste. Dry weight came out to 110, so a touch under a QP. Then theres the 20 or so grams I left drying in the tent to go towards bubble hash, and the 8 ziploc bags full of underdeveloped bud/trim. So I'm pretty pleased for my first grow...I see where I could have done better, and what kept me from reaching my 10 OZ goal. Will be starting up some Barneys Farm Vanilla Kush and another strain yet to be decided here in a week or so, stay tuned! If all goes according to plan I'll have a 1000w light and better ventilation in a bigger tent. :D

Thank Pukka, it's not bad, but could have been much better. And that sounds great lad, can you up a few pics of the buds? Would love to see how your end product came out.
Used the trim, stems, and under-developed bud to make bubble hash last night. Ordered a cheap 'bubblebagdude' kit off ebay for $50. Not a bad deal, but not the best bags ever.
Ended up with about 3 grams of hash in the 75 micron bag, and about a gram in the 25 micron bag. I feel like that's good enough for $50, but next time I'll definitely invest in a better set as I could tell there was still some hashy goodness left in the water I had filtered twice. It tastes and smells fantastic, and the high is very amazing. Only take a veryyyy tiny piece to bubble up and take you for a ride. Definitely a hash fan for life now. Also ordered a few Violator Kush seed to run alongside my Vanilla Kush. So I'll two seperate Kush strains growing side by side. VK all around hah.
