Gen Z are younger than Millenials. The cool thing is they know both parties are liars, they hate the police surveillance state and are far more libertarian and self reliant. They also hate shit TV which is filled with propaganda and brainwashing crap. The hip ones also hate Facebook. I notice younger mmj growers are moving to Instagram versus pot web sites or vile Facebook.

“Pollsters need to pay attention to Gen Z. People and politicians need to recognize that they aren’t millennials and shouldn't be lumped in,” Brauer told Campus Reform, noting that “there was virtually no attention paid to this demographic” in 2016, even though it was the first presidential election in which Gen Z had the ability to vote.

“Democratic candidates lost five percent of the youth vote nationally (down from 60 percent to 55 percent),” Brauer pointed out. “In Florida, Democrats’ margin of victory among the young dropped 16 percentage points. In both Ohio and Pennsylvania, the drop was 19 points. In Wisconsin, 20 points.”

Interesting. I wonder how they break conservative vs liberal.

I would venture to guess they are apolitical and probably don't vote--certainly don't vote in local elections. Historically, it's been the case that Americans under 30 don't vote with the frequency that Americans over 40 do.

I don't know why MMJ Dreaming and others believe Libertarianism is some kind of panacea. Until the Libertarians explain how such a society would deal with disease pandemics and/or natural disasters like earthquakes, hurricanes, and tornadoes, other than letting the "market work it out..." it sounds like a pretty gosh darn flawed ideology.

I don't recall any libertarians saying we shouldn't have firemen or policemen.

Libertarians want a passive government, instead of an active one. In a libertarian society, only the free market and private industries would support the CDC (that's centers for disease control), which would pale in comparison to what they get from the federal gov. With a weakened CDC, a libertarian America would not be able to adequately respond to a disease outbreak.

As for natural disasters, Libertarians complain that people shouldn't live in earthquake zones or tornado alley or New Orleans where flooding is expected. This is what the Libertarians were saying during the Hurricane Katrina disaster. "It's not the role of government to help people!!"

Well, the you can't classify all the libertarians as one.You can't know that the CDC would be weakened, I never heard anyone say not to live in those areas. I have heard them say that the people that live in those areas should pay the extra insurance for living in a hi risk area and not be subsidized by the feds.

And they do pay highly in insurance. Fox News was notorious for leading the clarion call that New Orleans should be depopulated.

At its core, Libertarian ideology believes in minimal government. So disease control would be something for the private sector and profit seekers. They'll do disease control on the cheap, because that's how profit seeking businesses operate.

they get govt subsidized insurance , the premiums don't cover the risks.

This world is going to be a strange place to live in. I already can't relate to anyone.
And more than likely the younger generation can't relate to you, and if they interact with you, they probably need to do so through their phones. Tech is taking a little more of our humanity everyday.

I've got a young niece, I guess she'd be in Gen Z or whatever the buzzword is for a 12-year old. I've asked her at times to imagine something and she looks at me like a fool. Her parents then lament that she's never had to imagine anything ever in her lifetime. Has always been hooked up to some kind of device. Her first cousin (not my kid), who's 14, always talks about how hobos should be lined up and shot. I fear the younger generation is less than human.

Because the free market gods of the private sector will not insure them is why they had to get federal flood insurance. Despite the subsidies, that insurance isn't cheap.
didn't say it was cheap, only that the premiums don't pay for the risks. if you operated an insurance company would you insure hi risk policy holders? nope, and if you did you wouldn't last long in business

But it goes to point out that the private sector and the gods of the free market aren't a panacea.

better than govt.
Okay, let's go back to my original criticism. In a minimal state, Libertarian society, what happens when natural disasters occur? Who protects the people then? What about a disease pandemic? Who protects the people then? The free market? How so?

BTW, most libertarians do claim free markets are a panacea, Nozick, Mises institute scholars, and this guy: https://www.libertarianism.org/media/libertarian-view/what-libertarians-mean-free-market

During the Great Depression, with 25% national unemployment and no social safety net system in place, and unemployment locally at 65% in certain areas, the private sector and religious organizations could not organize enough relief. http://articles.latimes.com/2014/mar/30/business/la-fi-hiltzik-20140330

Let's go back to a free market, laissez faire capitalism (which has never purely existed in the USA), in a free market there are boom and bust cycles. Between the 1840s and 1920s, there were huge monolithic depressions every few years. Libertarians usually have no response for this, other than the market did eventually work it out....only to bust again a few years down the road. Libertarian insistence on minimal state means that those affected by the busts starve in the streets, like they did in the USA from the 1840s to the 1920s (which is why FDR's administration proposed deficit spending to help people out...not to say that FDR's approach was a panacea either, but they helped when the market couldn't).

Millenial here. This is pretty close to true for me. I hate both parties; they both suck. At this point in time, although they both suck, I couldn't imagine EVER voting for a republican. I hate cable tv for the most part, and stick to documentaries, or select shows off Netflix or similar. I don't have a Facebook and definitely use instagram, but only for my cannabis business. I do vote though, both locally and on the national stage. I'm a poly-sci guy so I love to be involved when I can. :blsmoke:
