Getting Creative in 3rd World Countries (Cuba)

So my plants are now in week 2 of flowering, and they are pretty damn good given the conditions they are growing in.

Let me break it down.

Strain •

2 Photo Fem - Black Domina
Topped 3 times, no scrog netting, doing LST by bending and using shoe laces to tie branches down.

Equipment •

1-100W Light from ViparSpectra
1-12" pedestal Fan

There's no way for me to monitor, pH, Rh, or Temp basically I have just been kinda winging it to see if growing indoor good quality bud in this country is even possible... Oh also we get rolling blackouts all the time, so it's a headache to keep the light on during the light cycle, but night cycle won't be interrupted. Current cycle is lights off at 7pm, lights on at 7am.

That's it

Nutrients

17-17-17 (with no micro)
11-6-8 (with micro) ONLY AS FOLIAR SPRAY

Soil is 30% Worm Castings, 60% Forest soil (locally sourced) 10% SugarCane straw with some wood chips on the bottom.

The plants have been well up until this point, but now I'm worried about their feed schedule since I won't be able to feed them anything without Nitrogen.

So far I have been mixing it up with 20% dose of the 17-17-17 and then next feed I would do a foliar spray of the 11-6-8 cut down to about 20-25%

For now this has worked well getting the plants to this point. However since the plants now on flower require more P-K I'm stuck without options. Any ideas on regards to how to feed them with what I have?

These are the plants today, remember they are on week two of flower.

P.S there's no way I can buy anything and bring it here, the light I bought cost me 75$ on Amazon and it cost me almost 300$ to have it sent here with a mule. So I can't be spending any more money. Let's get creative. IMG_20231106_064505.jpg

I would look into some of the natural forms of farming. This may be filed under ignorant american, so take it with a grain of salt, but do you guys have any kind of store that has garden supplies? You don't have to buy cannabis specific nutrients. Any kind of garden nutrients that would have a low nitrogen content would work.

I know it’s be too late for this grow (which looks good btw!) but how about starting a worm farm if you cannot locally source what you’re looking for? Your forest soil may already have all you need as long as you keep top dressing with that and ewc.

I have tried Jdam and some other stuff but I just don't have the time to invest, I work for a NGO here and it's always hectic at the office so I can't really take the time to go all natural.

On the second part of your question, No there's no stores with garden supplies or anything, everything that's related to agriculture is state owned and state operated, which is why the country is in a food shortage crisis. There's no way to get any fertilizer or any farm equipment without raising eyebrows, and the penalty here for growing weed is a minimum 20 years so, I'm trying to keep an EXTREMELY low profile.

Yeah last month or so I have just been cutting back on feeding as much as I can, I'm really trying to avoid Nitrogen burn. Im a firm believer of less is more, and on this case without the proper equipment I'm just giving the plants exactly what they need when they show some type of deficiency.

The root system they have developed is crazy, 100% of the 5 gallon buckets they are in have been rooted fully. I know theres plenty microbial life on the soil because I have mushrooms developing from time to time, I don't remove them since they are beneficial at breaking down nutes. So soil wise I'm not concerned, it's the K-P that has me a little worried. I did feed the plants once with Cal-Mag vitamins intended for humans but they didn't seem to take it in. So I went ahead and crushed eggshells down to powder and top dressed for Cal, and just foliar sprayed with the 11-6-8 with micro, and they took well to that feed over time.

In regards to the worm farm, I can source worm castings from a vendor in Havana so it's not a big deal, but how else would a worm farm help me? Apart from gathering worm castings...

Just wanted to say those are gorgeous plants in spite of all the challenges you are facing, very nice job.
Thank you, they had their ups and downs. But tbh this strain is kinda bomb proof, I had them during the first part of veg on 16-8 but then the rolling blackouts started so I had to put them on 24 hours of light, with the blackouts working as dark cycles. I tried keeping them on the veg cycle as much as I could to try and wait out to see of the blackouts would stop, but the plants started to get a little droopy from the constant irregular cycles, so I had to flip them to flower.

Adapt, overcome and persevere.

Well not much else other than gathering your own castings and being more self sustaining. If the soil biology is healthy shouldn’t that feed the plant whatever nutrients it needs whenever it needs it as long as you keep top dressing? Your plants look great so I personally wouldn’t change much from what your currently doing :weed:

Your garden looks beautiful.

Since you're in a high humidity environment, keep the air moving in there with an oscillating fan. Don't blast them with direct high wind. Just keeping it circulating well. Trim off some of the larger fan leaves to allow light to penetrate more into the canopy and allow better airflow. High humidity and dense buds with no airflow is a recipe for mold/rot.

Regarding N-P-K...

The high P nutrients sold as cannabis specific have way more P in them than the plant can make use of.

They will do just fine with 17-17-17. Dont spray them with the micro or anything else now that they're flowering. You don't want anything on the buds. If you think you need to dose them with micro, just mix a little into the feed/water in the soil.

Good luck!

Thanks, I was worried I wouldn't be able to get them to harvest, so hearing that I can keep feeding them with the 17-17-17 at 20% is a big relief.

That's not a lot of nitrogen. High nitrogen fertiliter is more like 2 or 3 times the numbers as P and K. Also it probably contains a bit of microelements as the salts are never 100 % pure. You just can't rely on it so it's difficult to judge.

You can feed her some teas maybe. Boil some banana peels in water with a tbs of molasses. Drain and cool. Mix that 1:1 with water.

Take some egg shells, soak them in vinegar and use the foam on top to mix with water, crush the egg shells up and add them to the top of your soil mixed with some worm castings

Plenty of other organic recipes on here to help boost the nutes you got with some household items

if you want more producction you can add househod led for cheap they do work for flower get 3000k 14 w and place 20-30 cm from canopy

remember this
1 is light 2 is air and 3 is soil :weed:

Lovely plants & great thread. I would start a worm bin/farm as I have one myself. Honestly if it's not causing trouble or raising eyebrows to get those worm casing that you're already using, I would keep getting them. Seems like some good stuff seeing how good the plants are looking.
