Grafting?!

I was sitting here contemplating and i remembered back in high school they taught us about "grafting", i think it was called...anyway being the young nature boy i was and still am, i grafted a cherry tree branch onto my old apple tree, and the tree still to this day grows both fruits.

SO :-P

Marijuana. Can you graft different strains together to have separate buds on one plant? Have a short little Indica with some long ass Sativa branches? The problem would be you can't replicate what you've created so it would be a one time thing..but it doesn't take that long to do in the vegetative stage. Idk maybe this was pointless lol but i had a major "Stoned Epiphany"

Feedback, ideas if you care to share :bigjoint:

grafting is hard to do with annuals. Their sap/nutrient flow is too fast and often times the are simply can't be kept sterile enough or the graft union kept stable enough to take. Also, with a soft center of the stem it's much easier for rot to take hold. Trees are much easier since the stems are more woody and thus more sturdy and rot resistant. I tried it once, what a mess!

have a mother plant with crazy strains for branches and keep it to reproduce clones of 5 different strains.

i dont know man i think you should try...ive been thinkin about grafting plants ever since i learned about it in botany 101 at uwm. you know how to do it? cut two at 45's then wrap with peat moss or somethin like that then wrap in tin foil to keep light and such out...thats what i remember anyways!!! try it tho and post it cause i wanna try too but don't have the time...im guessin it would be very time consuming because of all the stress it would cause...ive read that you can cut branches at 45's and regrowth can occur...not positive on that so dont qoute but man it would be nice how else do they cross genes? im no botanist but seems like it should work. also i always thought the 36 mafia song bin laden weed was about grafting sorta...they say its 3 different kinds of bud grown all together!!! anyone else know or have tried grafting? how else do you combine strains? peace and keep smokin daily

You are confusing grafting and air layering.

My dad grafted cannabis to a hops vine with beeswax successfully, but with grafting, the plant will always take the path of least resistance, so it obviously produced no buds with hops..
Strain grafting is the most interesting concept I've heard of though.. Even if it didn't really want to flower itself, clones would be interesting to grow out..

i wish i had a set up with enough plants and privacy to try this because i would definitely. who can try this should in my opinion. worst case u lose two plants. best case u get a crazy plant with two or more strains on it wether u choose to flower or have a mega mother hahaha. id have a mega mother with at least three strains and use her for 3 in 1 son

What if you could grow a plant for its whole life and then right when you cut the stem for harvest, graft another smaller plant onto the old stump. If it worked the plant would grow way faster and bigger because it would already have a huge root source.

i read a thread on here just like this not too long ago. Some dude had like 5 or 7 strains on one plant, ill see if i can find it. The mega mother is good for medical grows, or just cutting down on the amount of plants you got.

Many years ago i was witnessing my grandfather grafted a pear branch into apple tree. I do not remember the taste of the fruit, but I know it worked out. My idea, if 2 genetically different plants could be crafted, why not try to craft the marijuana strain into cactus. Why cactus? does have a strong roots, and does not require a lot of water. So, you think, is it possible?
