Growlab GL40 - Fan & filter combo question. Please help.

I'm looking to get a GL40 - and I need to get the smell the fuck outta there. I asked the support on Greentree's Hydroponics if I could use a duct booster as a fan for the exhaust - he said they are too weak and I should use an inline fan. IMO they're the same thing - for more money. I'm on a low budget too so this is making me sadface.

My question to you is - if I use a 40 CFM carbon filter, can I use a 70 -160 CFM duct booster as the fan to power the exhaust? Please answer guys! I'll +rep anyone who can do me this favor haha.

you could probably use that combo but the filters going to slow your air flow down a bunch.

i have a 240 cfm duct booster and a 150 cfm filter and have highish temps (75-82) with a 400w hid. you need to get a real inline dont be a cheapass and get a $30 duct booster or you'll have some problems, learn from my mistakes.

I'm only using them for the ventallation of the tent - intake and carbon filtered exhaust. I can not afford an inline fan at this point, and they're fucking huge! I can't lose that much space in a GL40 - they're only 47" tall and 16" squared.

drop the 600 and go with cfl/t5/led or something of that nature, then you duct booster will work but a 600w hid need serious cooling power, not a little duct booster. the gl40 is tiny why you want to put a 600 in that anyway? im telling you your plants wont grow in there like that. that thing is not even 2x2 your trying to put 150w per square foot in that thing? those duct boosters have tiny little crappy motors in them controlling the fan blades where as real inline fans have giant motors driving specially designed fan blades to pull serious air through them. you need to rethink your strategy on this one ether get different lights or get a bigger tent and run the 600 with some real ventilation. like the guy said above "learn from his mistakes" but i can tell you already have the "im doing it anyway" attitude (or at least it seems that way).

my tent runs 62.5 watts per square foot with 2 giant 8" 740cfm inlines (one cooling the lights and one bringing fresh air in) and a 8500 btu portable ac cooling and my temps are still berly manageable. so im telling you its going to be impossible unless im looking at the wrong tent here!

I'm not disagreeing with anyone that this is not the best solution - The light I am using is a Sun Systems mini 150w, it's 4" x 7" x 15" - there are no duct flanges on it for cooling - I have been talking to a buddy and he highly recommends I use an LED panel which I am also considering as my lighting. The duct boosters are in no way connected to the light - only to the intake of fresh and and exhaust of rank ass air. What do the CFM ratings of the filter mean then? If the filter moves 40 CFM - wouldn't a 160 CFM duct booster be fine - if it's only to exhaust the smell of the tent and not the hear from the lamp? I found a 4" inline fan that is a bit more than the duct booster but it is still rated at 160 CFM, just like the stronger duct booster.. Is it the fact that the inline fans are powered by more tourqed motors therefor they're better?

You can still use a booster fan for exhaust, but ya an inline would be better. You definately want a matching Filter / Fan (for CFM).

CFM - Cubic Feet Per Minute

Thank you sir lol, I was thinking if the CFM of the fan was more than the CFM of the filter, it would be fine, not the best, but fine. Plus I'm deff not using it on a light. Donno where the it came from that I was using a 600w light in that tiny ass tent lol

Not the wrong tent but the wrong light sir
