hey guys first post here... been noticing some flies in my closest grow. this is my first encounter with pest in my grow room. after careful examination of the flies, im 100% positive they are Green Bottle flies and a few Fruit flies. a little about my grow, i use organic soil with steer manure compost in my soil mix so i figured that is how i got Green Bottle flies.. i was wondering will they cause any harm to my babies, which are only 1-2 weeks old.. thanks in advance for the help

fruit flies or fungus gnats? im not sure of the green bottle fly as I have never had those but fungus gnats are easy to cure with gnatrol and make sure your not over watered... gnatrol is completely safe and effective.... you could also use biological misquito control or BMC which is a liquid form of the same thing sold maybe on ebay ...but for soil the gnatrol works great

Nope no fungus nats thank god, but 1 or 2 fruit flies and quite a few green bottle flies. I have some organic insecticide soap that I use on the plants and either my rubbing alcohol mix or my vinegar mix for surrounding areas. But man thoes green bottles are annoying. Im thinking about going to a more natural pesticide meaning ladybugs lol.. but I dont want to have more then like 20 of them. They only sell them by the 1000s from what I can find

Use flypaper too...I bought some garden compost recently and threw a few cu. feet into my indoor mix and the f'ers are everywhere....finally tamping them down with just neem oil / habanero soil drenches...and finally hung some strips for all the existing adults...best $2 I spent to nail the bastards...:peace:

Im gonna pick up some fly paper this week.. good to know im not the only one thats dealt with these bastards lol
Yeah...had them before...but never like this...thick as thieves....bought the flypaper..2 days ago? just smothered already........

Also 99% of the time, the flies are all pretty much harmless, usually just detrius eaters and not much else....but they technically have the ability to carry mites.....this is big reason, why I don't like to let them persist......

but I am highly curious on why they thrive on organic soils.....increased exudates that they love[sugars]?, but signalling a slightly overfed garden maybe...I remember the fruit fly colonies in Bio101 they would makes us incubate with sugar water....

I mean seriously for a few weeks,I could not get rid of these fuckers.....and my plants never looked healthier....:)....something odd about their effect imho :leaf:
