Here we go! First grow.

I like that idea of trimming the clone fan leaves. I adjusted the water level. If that doesn't help i'll trim the bottom set.

As for pruning, my selection process for taking fan leaves is mostly based on if they are covering nodes or not. I found the small lower nodes would hit the bottoms of the fan leaves, smoosh up and grow slowly. Right now i'm trying to get it as branched out as possible in a small space since my space is limited. Taking fan leaves from around the new nodes allows them to have more energy instead of growing these mammoth fan leaves like I have seen happening with this gal. I also do not want any fan leaves extending into the center of my growing space around the stem because I don't want any condensation building up and causing any water problems with leaves. I would never go as extreme as your buddy. I only clear from crowded spaces where I know a branch will come in. When I go into flower I doubt any will be trimmed. Especially after reading those quotes you supplied.

Oh and to answer your question, I've experimented with many vegetables, bushes, trees and bonsai! I also have an unquenching desire to gain experience growing everything! This is my newest venture!

Those mammoth fan leaves are not using energy; they are converting available energy into usable substances required for new growth. Taking fan leaves from the plant doesn't supply new growth with more energy; it reduces the plants overall ability to photosynthesis (to collect vitals) leaf by leaf. I suggest pushing fans down - I don't disagree with your pruning approach for the most part; just remember to practice minimalistic trimming if at all, I think your plants will apreciate it. Always wanted to keep bonsai but that is true patience lol - fear I'll never have that patience lol :-( - gonna stick with fast growers myself :eyesmoke:

I think once it's time to flower I'll start pushing them down. just too hard to work around the stem with LST when there are a bunch of huge leaves in the way. Thanks for the input though. I've got a Pomegranate tree I'm working on to get into a spiral trunk right now. lookin good so far. SO many projects at the same time.

That plan sounds good - and a mini spiral pomegranate tree would be pretty sweet; will dab into bonsai soon I'm sure haha

Anyways - subbed and look forward to your progress

I've got one question about the flowering transition. In that first week of 12/12 do they still grow quite a bit or does it really stunt they're growth. I've been running LED on 24/7 and CFL's 18/6. I'm gonna leave them both on for 12/12 soon.

I actually set the lights down to 18/6 for all of them. Think I'm gonna do that for a week then hit 12/12. make it seem a little more natural lol.

6/17 First day of 12/12. Decided it was massive enough lol. Counted 25+ nodes. about 15 are fully formed and in the open. Here we go..

She was all wilted this morning. I checked the reservoir. She just started drinking a lotttt. Does that normally happen in the transition period?

The tops have been coming to a halt and spreading to an even canopy. I assume it is entering flowering. hard to tell right now but when the lights come on next I will check it. Nodes have definitely stopped growing out so there should be signs very soon. This pic is from 6/21. Hard to believe this is only one plant :) I'm loving LST.

How does everyone think she's lookin for day 50?

9 tops have spread out in the canopy. bunch of small ones still just under the canopy.

Well she hasn't showed sex yet but I have a question in the meantime. I have some stems that have about 8 or more new branches growing off them. would it be beneficial to pop off some of the lower or inner ones that would take forever to catch up to the canopy? or would they produce a lot of popcorn buds? even though they're below the canopy?
