How does the age of the mother effect cloning?

I've read a lot of people say not to clone from a plant before it's about two months old... is there any science to back this up?

I'm currently growing from seed in an effort to weed out the undesirable phenotypes before selecting one mother plant to keep and am trying to keep a 6 week veg cycle. They're at day 29 now I believe and have several lower branches capable of being cloned. The goal is 4 clones from each plant...

Is there really a problem with taking clones from a plant this early? Or is it all just a bunch of talk?

some people clone off plants that are over years old . and some people clone off a plant that is very young . a lot of people talk that do not know what the heck they are talking about . I tool clones off a plant that was very young actually killed the plant because there was nothing of her left I could care less made a lot of small plants from it saved a lot of time . so I turned the entire plant into clones cut every single branch

It's true I find plants that are not fully mature take longer to root clones. Sometimes if picked too early it seems they won't root at all. I'm not sure but I think it's got to do with the level of natural hormones that are at low level until sexual maturity. Most strains reach maturity in under 60 days but I have successfully cloned much earlier than that. I say be patient & give it another few weeks.

I can't wait to have one mother plant and streamline this whole bullshit... phenotype hunting is for the birds, or large scale growers

How does one keep a mother plant going? I don't know what people mean when they say this or how it works

Re generate,is the way to go,i have spoke loads of times about the mothers i have the oldest is 7 year old,i re generate sometime's twice a year, and she still does well. The post i have just put up ,the exodus, movement of jha people, are clones of that plant.

Has long has you have a room that is ideal condition's for the plant's then they will do fine,i will be looking into injecting something into her soon though to get seed's from her like i did my jack herer clone only strain, that one is around 5 year old may be a little older,i am in the process,of crossing it with jack herer from marijuna seeds nl,i know that jack herer is a lot like the jack clone strain i have plus its the best jack herer in seed form i think ,i have done near all of them and i love that one,

I did the same with the livers i had now i have seeds of that crossed with my exodus, the medication that plant throws is some of the best i have tried.lovely smoke massive producer.

A friend of mine got busted a few month ago and he lost strains he had been working on for years ,some plants has old has my exodus,so its made us all go into over drive ,working on crossing the strains with simular seed strains then back crossing so if it happens to us then at least we have seeds, well its not if it happens to us its when it happens to us,we all know at some point in the uk that at some point the doors coming of with the 5o,Once laws change then that will leave me in a position, where i'm able to do what i love most in growing and that is breeding,i love creating strains that when i see people smoking them there faces light up with a smile, and gets them talking,

Selecting a proper mother plant involves pheno hunting. You can't just select a random plant and hope it will be the best out of however many seeds popped.

Defo,it take's time,it most cases though, if you get your seeds from a good seed breeder.More often than not ,you will find one plant, that you can keep has a mother,That is why i would all ways making sure you note smell during veg/flowering results,,take photo's of the difference in growth pattern's.I would never keep a mother with a feminized seed,i never grow them normally, you really need to grow from regular seed's,and pick out the traits that you like,Take the, marijuna seed's nl ,jack herer ,there was a few ,and to be honest i liked all of them i think there was 3/4 out of 15 seeds i popped,i choose one that had a lovely smell during veg,and a other that grew totally different to the others, and flowered 3 of them,it was the one that had the pungent smell during veg that i crossed with my jack herer clone mother.

Good luck in what ever you choose

You clearly have a reading comprehension issue... see the first post.

Great, so why don't you just buy clones or find someone who has them? Cloning lower branches is not optimal from what I hear apical branches produce stronger plants.

Not sure if this can be applied but...I cut and planted 12 clones, 2 strains from a friends plants over 2 years ago. I only have 1 room. Within that room I have a cloning cabinet. Of the 12 clones, I choose the best 8 to transplant out of the solo cups and ultimately choose the best 2 of each strain to be the mothers of the next grow. I take cuttings off those mothers about 3 weeks after the 6 had been flipped (the chosen mothers get put in the cloning cabinet at the flip). The mothers are tossed and the process repeats. Bottom line is they are about 2 months old when I clone. I have a 95% success rate and have not lost a clone in over a year.

Buying clones from people you don't know assumes a lot of things. There are probably more issues that you can get buying from clone than starting from seed and cloning your own plants.

I don't appreciate your condescending attitude in my thread. I was asking a fairly simple question, I didn't create this thread to be ridiculed by someone who can't even read two sentences into the thread.

You state that I have "a reading comprehension issue" and then tell me that I'm condescending? Just trying to help but nevermind...

I don't know if you two have history but you seem to be the one out of line dude. Don't like the advice don't use it

No history, just don't appreciate someone who can't read past the second sentence (literally) offering up information not relevant to the discussion. If someone wants to help, great, I really do appreciate the insight. However, if you claim you want to help yet don't even give the time to read past the second sentence, you clearly aren't here to help as you'd have taken the time to actually read what you are helping with.

Spitting out rather obvious information not related to the topic comes off as arrogance to me, but we can agree to disagree.

I try and answer this simple, the older a mother gets the less you will be wanting to take clones from the bottom part of a plant, that your wanting to keep has a mother. The bottom of a mother plant that has been vegging for some weeks will become hard wood ,but for cloning you really want nice fresh soft new growth.Thats not to say that the bottoms of a mother that have a harder outta stem won't clone because they will, but they will take a while longer.I normally take my clones from the new growth,You will find that all mother plants need regeneration after a while.i tend to regenerate, about 1/2 times a year,if I was doing this legally then I would just let the mother keep growing .I have grown clones to flowering height before, set into flowering , but on the day of flowering I have took clones,i veg these along side the plants in flower, then just repeat the process. The fast straight to the point answer is,it effects cloning but depending on where the clones are took from lower down the plant, older growth clones may take longer to root, from a mother that's fairly young then new growth the clones will root far quicker.

Hope this helps

regeneration, correct, new growth will root faster than the harder stemed part of the plant ,but my plants some of them are years old so I just take a clone and this becomes my new mother once or twice a year.w e all know that the older parts will root dude, but I think you get better clones from nice soft stems new growth, they just root quicker, the older more hard stems still root but the take longer,
