Sure, but when the digi's burn up, u would have to replace those too... So, it can go either way... Therez pros and cons to be said for each one... For max lumens, u always gotta replace lamps after the textbook times, or if u r like me, u can just shoot em with a FLuke light meter, and see what they r actually putting out... So, itz all relative costs associated with growing, whichever way u go... It'll all pan out in the end, if yer makin good enuff money from yer labors and is ultimately up to the individual grower and their own abilities, as to which style they want to mess with... For my the old-ctyles r just easier to diagnose, and remedy, and also, come very cheap or free, since I usually have leftover HID kits and lamps after big jobs, and can just take em to the op...
