How much SHOULD be spent on a med grow setup for 1 patient?

Just curious on what everybody's idea is $$ wise for an initial grow setup for 1 patient? I see a lot of people posting how expensive it is but if you're only growing for yourself (or caregiving for 1 patient), I don't see why it can't be done for under $600-$700, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Granted you're not going to have environmental controllers and co2 regulation etc.. but mother nature has none of that shit and she grows weed just fine so I consider those things unnecessary luxuries (that I would love to have if the price were 0).

I've seen some amazing shit come out of homemade 150w stealth grow cabs produced for under $200...

Let's hear the opinions fellas.

it ran me about 500.00 to convert a room over and get it set up. then about 600 for lights, ballast, buckets, soil nutes ect.....
and monthly costs for myself

but it COULD be done in an old CPU case for under 100.00 i would think, utilzing CFL ect.... any price point can be reachable, though it kind of falls to how well is the grow going. regardless of where and size of area....

overall it can be done pretty inexpensively. meet the basics, and dyi and cost can stay low.

It can be really cheap! If your not going for perfection like I "try" to do. All you need is some fans a good light ($250) buckets ($2.75) and your medium of choice. use a area in the basement or a bathroom that is not used. If you want to go expensive check my grow journal my room cost about $3000

Digital 1000w light package- $400
Rope ratchets - $15
8in. Inline - $150
Soil/coco/rocks - $70
Pots - $60
nutrients - $160
oscillating fan - $30
Exhale co2 bag - $35
room or tent - $100-$225
8 bulb t5 for veg - $240

Do it right or don't do it at all.

Best advice I can say is do not skimp on lighting. As far as everything else goes, you can spend as much as you want to. The sky is the limit!

"Should" is a very subjective term. I've seen grows consisting of CFLs and coffee cans for pots. If I had a friend that wanted to start growing for as cheap as possible, my grocery list would include a 150w Hps light, a timer, a fan, two 3 gallon pots, two clones, a bag of dirt, 1 quart of grow nutes and 1 quart of bloom nutes. I think this list would cost around $200.

Subjective indeed. I guess everyone's situation will have different needs. I myself will be in a tent and I have no problem waiting until I can invest in the best of the best when it comes to light, hood, ventilation, and carbon filter. I clocked myself somewhere about $1000 if I got everything I have window shopped around for. Definitely gonna be an organic dirt grow. I've been told by the best to keep it simple and go from there. And this shitty hard michigan water requires an indefinite investment in a reverse osmosis setup so add on another $150 for that.

$160 for nutes? I respectfully disagree.

This is where people piss away the most money needlessly, imo. You can pick up a good all purpose, complete fertilizer for a fraction of that.

I keep hearing about jacks being good shit. I'm all down with keeping it simple as last time I grew, I severely diminished my end result by overnuting with an array of bullshit products. God only knows what my PPM was when the cocktail was done but what I got was crunchy leaves and massively stunted growth. It was like watching a sick child slowly suffer...a truly heartbreaking situation as I had high hopes.

Shit guy check my journal I posted on my first grow a few years back. It was a ghetto rig of the highest degree. I bought 2 150w econolights, rewired 'em and housed 'em in $1 baking pans as reflectors. The only thing I spent any money on was the damn inline fan which basically was used to just blow direct air over the canopy so I could keep the lights close as shit. God how I would have loved nice equipment like a glass enclosed euro reflector with 6" duct ports....funds ran out and it just never came together. Gotta love the enthusiastic DIY'ers on RIU!

I'm with ya on that guy. Since joining this forum 4 years ago, I've done enough reading and heard from enough reputable people that spending that kind of money on nutrients isn't necessary. Seen plenty of people grow good shit using a basic 2 part and nothing else.

Just depends on the goal. If the use will be low, and the strain is minimally important (not a full blown sativa) You could get decent meds pretty inexpensively, like a couple hundred bucks... Or you could hot rod everything and spend 3 grand...just no easy answer.

a guy on craigs list is selling hundreds of shop lights MH ONLY 400 watters. I have three just like them you can switch them from 3 faze to a 110 240 or what ever you just take off the plate above the ballast and swap the hot to what ever voltage you need. plus you can daisy chain them so they all come on with only one outlet. 75$ each i think you could talk him down im sure.
