How to bring out the purple?!?

Here's a genetically purple 100% sativa Ace seeds Panama red i did outdoors once. Flavorless and weak smoke... looks cool but i wouldn't grow it again

I've grown the ACE Panama and fortunately mine was green and quite exceptional. I've also grown their Pakistani Chitral Kush which is a very colorful plant with shades from light pink to deep reds and purple. If you find the more rare green pheno it's much better than the ones with colors. The worst weed I've grown has been purple weed. I grew a Frisian Duck that grew nice and all. Very purple, funky leaves, etc... The yield was there but the weed sucked. I've also grown strains like Purple Paro Valley that that turned out to be some really nice smoke. The plant I grew didn't show much purple.

I had some fake ass purple Urkle that was entire purple. No green. Taste like shit

Yeah it was a bit of a gamble, i ended up with two purple panamas from seed! The green one looked better. Ace green panama would go nicely in a hybrid i reckon.

As mentioned previously, while purple is pretty to show and tell, The potency doesn't seem to carry over into that color. Fastbuds Purple lemonade was the most purple ever consistently but potency didn't match the beauty.

ah my favourite subject. ive grown some purple stuff over the years the quality of the smoke and the amount of color are entirely up to genetics then there is also the issue of purple varieties that turn purple at the onset of flower vs turning purple at the end of flower due to temperature. then there are plants where only the leaves turn purple after trimming the buds arent purple vs plants where only the calyxes are purple here are some examples. also there are some examples where even the resin glands are purple and were able to make purple extractions. some people say purple strains are weak i say they haven't grown enough pot.

I grew various purples for about 15 years. The only one with modern potency was Purple Hindu (Not Jaeger) and wasn't very purple. The weakest, in terms of both resin and effect was Phoenix Suns, the most purple bud I've ever seen.


Grapes come in 2 distinct varieties. White and red. With all the mutt breeding that's gone on, we need an expert to show us what a true "red" variety is. It ain't GDP or anything domestic.

one of my favorite subject too! And I totally agree with your words. I'll just add that purple genetics does not mean a good smoke, I've been disappointed some times with the taste of its. But it is a pleasure to see when it turns purple, from beginning or after temperature changes, on buds or leaves... what a nice discovering!

I've smoked several purple strains over the years and, in most cases, they all had a "purple taste" that I really love. The reason they taste different is because there is less green chlorophyl in them. Chlorophyl; definitely does have a "green taste"...So, it only goes to figure that, when you have a purple strain, it's going to have a different taste than a green strain. I'd love to have really nice purple strain to grow...but it has to be genetically purple and not purple by making the room colder. Most of those outer leaves that turn purple in a cold room, end up in the trim pile, anyway. Right?

Purple capabilty in the genetics, low flowering temps.

Anthocyanins no likee temps much past mid 70s. I think I read that sometime in the past, but observation has been that too over the years.

Purple is just anthocyanins being produced in a higher concentration in cold its a survival thing cos it has anti freeze like properties hence why weed makes it chances are and any other time its just in the genes and is always expressed regardless of temps thats a true purple strain in my book

I have had a purps from bcbuddepot actually turn purple, and a northern lights haze without anything different done on my part.
Have some triple purple rhino from doc d81 in my cabinet that allegedly are more likely purple than green, but most say the green pheno is the dankest.

I agree genetics plays the biggest part, I also throw a bag of ice around the stalk gives a boost to trichomes and helps bring out some purple
