I totally dig that HPS has superior penetration and brightness.
But my gals are F'n happy as hell.
(2X Blackstar 180's in a 2X3 foot closet)
EBill went up about 40 bux when I started back in Feb.
Dropped about 20 from that when I went to 12/12.

I've been using a decent LED light and was very happy with the results. I think some people just think anything other than what they were told first is wrong. Older LEDs may not have been good, but the ones nowadays as long as you get a good quality one are pretty great. I don't know that they will keep up with the best HPS and MH lighting systems, but if you don't want to deal with ventilation and high electricity costs (I only grow a few plants at a time, so it's not worth all the cost of HPS etc) then LEDs might be right for you.

Just fyi I use an Area51-350.
