I wonder if soaking the seeds in a seed sprout tea might help with old stock. SST's are full of hormones from what I've learned. Doing this might replace what's been lost over time.

You might want to get ahold of Hyroot. He's big on sst's.

I dropped two in a glass of rainwater overnight then placed them in a folded tissue in freezer bag and strapped that to the back of my iMac. Opened the bag every 12 hours to check it was moist, get oxygen in and satisfy my curiosity. After the root was 1 1/2 cm I put it straight into the soil I planned to grow with. It popped leaves within 15-24 hours. 2 out of three was my score, but I dint label them so I have no idea of the strain.
Have you checked that the surface of your soil is not drying too quick. Mine needed lots of water to keep moist. Spray bottle twice daily till the leaves were up properly.
Good luck

IDK? maybe just bum seeds?? I've got 2 or 3?(Baked!) in Cup now,soaking...will possible end up in Paper Towel if not crack by midnight or early hours, I only soak for 12 hrs or so then straight on to Paper Towels in side a Plastic tub, left slightly open and covered from the light.

Hope You have more Joy with Ya Beans in future...

Peace

Sorry if I missed something along the way, what is the Age condition of seeds?, conditions for storing?, sterile environment? mishandling?. I've been using my oma's ideas for years.
Make sure seeds stored in cool dry place, handle them as little as possible (oils in our skin contain massive amounts of salt and chems. comparitively.) Keep clean working area, while germing, dont trip, moist paper towel in quarters above fridge or in cabinet, just give them 2 days and keep moist, immed. plant the sprouts in the darkest possible environment, hydrodome works well for me, use tweezers if needed. Keep them in the dark until first signs of cots. 80-90 success
I am not an expert, but the whole idea of peeling back and damaging the seed first, well think about it if it was your kid. These are plants, and they have been living for millions of years without our help, If its not the seeds, it the handling and conditions. Keep it simple... just saying

The beans are defiantly still viable the inside a still nice and white and oily, they are stored in plastic bags in a wooden box Which stays nice and cool

Apart from thinking it's your kid I entirely agree.

Sorry if I missed something along the way,
Yeah you did, but np

Prince, you've proven the external dormancy can be overcome (ie. they crack) by scarification. Once they do that (show a taproot even for just a mm), I would revert back to a more regular germination method (put it in soil, coco, paper towel if you have to, but keep them moist and temp not too cold/warm). I've never had a seed crack and not finish germination unless I let it dry out, get too hot, or soak it for too long.

As for your question by pm: I haven't checked the one in rockwool yet (don't want to rip the wool off the tap root) but the one in coco (first of the two I cracked) is definitely doing well and I expect it to be up today/tomorrow.

They get the crack in paper towel after the scarification and then stall I have no idea why the temps stay between 25-30*C is this too hot? I know for sure they don't dry out aswell

In theory the method of removing the embryo should be a good idea it cuts out the time if the water having to soak threw the shell and be able to go straight into the embryo, I have done this too one seed in paper towel and in 24 hours it hasn't changed at all I have no clue what's up with these seeds they just don't wanna do anything for me, it is mid winter here so they are on artificial heat from a light fitting

Technically cracking it is giving the seed a helping hand, got it, C-section for a plant, Got it. Great idea, except if it isnt working for you.
So if its not the seed its the conditions or handling, nothing else it can be. everyone here has suggested their ways which work for them and myself. I just keep it simple, Its a plant.

Seems to me you're "mess'in" with em too much

Basic

24 hrs soak in water', shot glass
carefully move between wet paper towels
( I pour off most water then pour s33ds on to paper towel)
place towels in lrg, open ,zip lock bag
place on plate in dark cab, 24- 48hrs

after Tap appears, CAREFULLY place in soil filled container,

For myself, I like the very small peat pots
View attachment 3203136
your soil/soilless, potting soil, choice
place on horticulture heat mat
keep medium moist not wet
T-5 when popped

IMVHO, Patience maybe the prob

✌ BOB......
