hey Buck. ya, next run im gonna do a purple durban pair, identical everything except one will not get Canna Boost. then i'll know whats up on that for sure. the babies in the tent are getting off the chain! the PDP in there now is so damn sugary! i can't wait to get another 420 and then i can throw this HPS crap in the trash! also, i love the 200-PAR in veg so much, i listed my SunBlaze 48 on CL. cant wait to be rid of it!
Aaw man i already wanna buy up! im wanting to rid of the hps too i'd love to buy like 4 420's get a nice big tent keep the tent i have now for me veg tent and upgrade to a 2.0x2.0x2.0 im a little way off investing yet tho need to save my pennys hardcore i just cannot wait to not purchase bulbs again... any updated pics man? There are quite a few australian made products that are world class..

@Chaz Forgot to hit you up dude you flipped yet??

Hey buck: i'm in the middle of watering right now. i'll take some pics for ya before i zip them up for the night.

after having the one 420 on the lightrail, i decided to sort the plants in the tent differently, so that the 420 can glide over 4 plants instead of just 2... so now the 600HPS only has to tend to one plant, and the 420 is pimping out the other 4. and i mean pimping in the absolute classic use of what a pimp does in regard to the females in his charge - make 'em work!

pics should be up in 1-2 hours. -=o)

touchin base.. stopping for a quick 4:20 break... the AM ones are always the best! just one more round to go, and a few more pics to take... i gotta admit tho, so far i've only got one of the White Fire, but like 10 of the Purple Durban Poison... shes so damn sexy... every time i glance at her, it's like she's posing at me! i just need to shuffle the others into the center are for their pics, and then put them all back like... things look to be on timetable for the update ;)

peace

alright Buck, all done watering for the night. here's the update pics. again, all these plants are the same age, on the same time schedule, the same duration into bloom, and on the same nute strengths. the only differences are the light exposure, and the subsequent different rates of transpiration, dictating how often each of them needs feeding. each plant averages 2 gallons per week, in 2 one gallon feedings. all plants were vegged under a mix of 200w and 400w inducted fluorescent. at bloom, some stayed under the 400w EFDL, and some went under the 600w HPS.

the Agent Orange. went under HPS immediately upon switching to 12/12. the tallest and lankiest of the bunch.
IMG_20120430_034912.jpgIMG_20120430_050718.jpg

the Purple Durban Poison. she stayed under the 400w EFDL through the switch from veg to bloom. she was the largest (bushiest - most prolific) of the 5 at the time of the switch due to the fact that she spent the most of the time in veg under the 400w as opposed to the 200w. the 420-PAR replaced the 400w she was previously under about 2 weeks ago; she really took off under the new 420! please understand that the HPS cast on her in the pic was incidental as it occurred due to her placement for her photo ops. this girl is all EFDL. something like 26 main light-exposed tops there...
IMG_20120430_054507.jpgIMG_20120430_041016.jpgIMG_20120430_035351.jpgIMG_20120430_035237.jpgIMG_20120430_035218.jpgIMG_20120430_035041.jpg

the other girls in the tent are in mixed states of variation between these 2 extremes; because they have been shuffled from one light area to the other (and also different strains), and aren't really indicative of a true light comparison. also, these 3 had a case of PM a couple weeks ago that prompted a treatment with Serenade. hence the pistils in the following pics are lying, they are not quite that far along.

here's the Obama Kush:

the Grand Daddy Purp:

and the Pineapple Kush:
IMG_20120430_050519.jpgIMG_20120430_050510.jpg

well, off to take a few dabs and hit the bed... catch ya all later!

peace.

dood... look back a couple pages in this thread. i posted a video. Pro-420-PAR vs 600w HPS.

harvest is 3 weeks out. i'll most likely post an update next week, and then one at harvest.
Thank you. Looks great. I'm seriously considering this lamp but I seriously considered LED until I did the research. LED just doesn't match the weight the HID puts out. Induction looks promising. Do you think you'll have more weight with inda-gro vs HPS after harvest?

More? I'd settle for somewhere close with the savings in electricity and no heat issues.

Yes, it was a comment about a previous post, Spliff said the buds look bigger/denser under the indagro so I wanted to know if he thinks he'll get more then the 600.

ya i have no doubt that the inda will out-yield the HPS. i'm expecting that the PDP, that's been only getting EFDL light, will harvest out to be close to the weight of at least 3 of the other plants, perhaps the whole lot of the other four combined! the only things that the HPS seems better at making the plant generate vs the Inda-Gro's are longer internodes (and smaller buds)

Can't wait to see a full room of only indagro's.. how manyweeks quicker did the light push flowering along?

Makes me wanna have a bong... its like its here... a HPS alternative without breaking the bank full spectrum buds here we go!!

Does anyone know if Inda-gro has done any reflector analysis? Most think the best reflector for HPS are the xx max style, it seems these could help light placement of an induction too. The inda-gro looks narrow.

@PSU: thanks -=o) i've always been scientific minded and pretty analytic by nature... add to that the fact that my first career goal in life was to be a botanist, at the age of 7. in fact, my 5th grade science fair project was on artificial lighting for productive plant growth. my dad helped me by crafting the test boxes and the electrical installation, but i had designed the test that pitted the sun vs a grow n show, a red bulb, and a green bulb. needless to say, i got 1st place at that fair. fast forward to now, where i'm an environmental studies major at a college in portland. i'm passionate about fresh water, sustainable organic farming (i've been called militantly anti-GMO - even a food nazi - and it was my nutrition teacher doing the name calling!), and sustainable energy production. here in the NW, we're all guilty of trading our salmon for our electric bills; and thats not right at all. i love salmon, and i hate huge electric bills. i'm sure that most would agree on at least half of that statement. i understand the clear benefits of indoor horticulture when done right, but it all starts with the correct light choice. pick the spectrum that is tuned to the plants. the plants will make best use of that input electricity by virtue of the lamp not spending additional wattage on spectrum output that the plants don't care for. an thats to say nothing of the wattage waste from the heat output of a 1000w HPS. which leads to AC/more fans/more exhaust/vicious cycle... personally, after looking at the FOOLISHNESS of running grows in the multiples of 10,000 watts (my old grower showed me her four thousand dollar electric bill. i typed it out so that you will know it is not a typo), all i can say is that i love salmon AND cannabis. i want to have my pot, and fresh fish too.

i hear ya... when i started looking at options to HID lighting, i looked at LEDs first, as they make up the lion's share of that alternative market. it's impossible to look at alternative lighting technology for any application without seeing LED options available. so with a little research you can find out that there are companies that use 1w, 2w, 3w, or 5w diodes; and that differences then continue when it comes to the spectrum mix that they endorse and utilize. afaik, the newest LED solution on the market is the Solar Storm SolarStorm_Pic.jpg, which is 800w (using 5w LEDs), and only has UV-B coverage on the sides with the addition of 2 little UV-B reptile lights (as opposed to how the entire Inda-Gro PAR tube emits UV-B. o, and it costs like two thousand dollars... talk about expensive. also, LEDs are still a new technology, particularly when one considers that Nikola Tesla invented Inducted Fluorescent technology in something like 1891. the newness of LED tech can be seen in both the rapid increase in output and wattage in a short time, as well as the consistently high price. personally, if i had the extra loot for one of these solar storm things, i'd choose to save a few hundred and get 2 420-PARs.

on the topic of weight, so far my plants are showing a clear preference for the Inda-Gro lamps in all stages of growth. my PDP is the biggest so far, and she's only been under EFDL... but theres also the fact that the plants are of different strains. once i clean up from this go around, i have a couple experiments lining up. one is to split the Canna Boost hair with a matched set of PDPs, but i will also run a Boost'ed PDP under the 600w HPS. that data matrix will have many answers...

well, im off to get into some gardening... i just got a new Cannatonic and Mendo Purp in today, and i want to go sit with them a little bit. they went right under the 200-PAR when i got them home, and last i saw they were already raising theirs leaves in eager response to the spectrum.

be well everyone!

the best i can do is relate the experience my wife's cousin, who is also involved with OMMP growing, had when he saw my garden. he has been a part of a large co-op for several years.. when he saw my girls the first time, they were at 1.5 weeks, he thought they were about 3 weeks in. his second visit was 2 weeks later, and he said that it looked like a month had passed.

gawd... i was just at the local hydro shop getting some drip pans and other incidentals and one of my guys there was so hyped that he had just finished loading up a new customer's order... a full room of 18 1000w HPS and all of the accompanying boxes and controllers, high voltage timers, and oh ya, air conditioners... i could only imagine how much that customer had spent... <shudder> then i pondered the minimum 36 bulbs ($150 each means $5400 a year) that he's now going to be buying annually. <shudder again>

perhaps that is the reason why:
a) my friend there said "i need to sell more rooms like that", and also
b) why he has told me that their store refuses to look at bringing Inda-Gro lamps in. it's the return bulb sales, baby!

but... he is very interested in my input on Inda-Gro lamps for his own personal grow. i showed him my recent round of pics and his eyes popped. then i told him that the durban is only half way there (i plan on taking her a full 70 days)... all i can say was that his reaction was good stuff.

i wish that you HID addicts would just slow your entrenched way of thinking a little bit and analyze your expenses on paper compared to running Inda-Gro. that one custie could have bought 6-7 (i'm sure Darryl would give a bulk discount) for the same loot he will be dropping on one years worth of bulbs. 7 420-PARs clocks in at 2940 watts. he could even have taken the money spent on the AC units and all the HID accessories and gotten more 420-PARs. i figure that he dropped a solid enough coin today that he would have been able to get all 18 lamps from Inda-Gro and been laughing at the rest of you non-believers for the next decade as he saves that $5400 annually and also pays the electric company approximately 40% of what he will be paying with those glorified street lamps.

oh ya, and he'd be growing better herb. faster.
