Well, I'm new here. Had a few buddies do grow journals here over the years, and I figured it was my time to put one in the books. I'm a huge fan of Deep Water Culture grows, and hopefully can pump out some monsters this go-round for your visual enjoyment :)

Anyways, here's a new setup I threw together. Just moved houses, so I did a bit of an upgrading during the process :) And before I answer this a hundred times: My camera is a Canon 60D. I use various lenses. If you wish to know the specifics contact me in a personal message.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

VEG EQUIPMENT: My veg-box is a Homebox Clonebox, and I love it! I'm using a 6-light T8 fixture, DIY drip-tub, and humidifier. I'm currently using Botanicaire CNS nutrients in correlation with: Great White mycorrhizae and Liquid Karma, which used together makes a fantastic growth stimulator safe for use from germination to crop.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

FLOWER EQUIPMENT: I'm currently working with the Growlab 120L, Two 600W HPS and Digital Ballasts, and all the accoutrement for flower. I'm not in dire need of an A/C unit or Water-Chiller right now, but those are the next two things on my list.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

STRAINS: Right now, I'm working with a sativa-dominant grow-group. Tricky to tame, slow to finish, but well worth the wait. I will be placing four plants in to the flower room within the next few weeks. These are: Super Silver Haze, White Russian, Jack the Ripper, and Blue Dream. One month following, I will introduce another four to the flower room. And so forth.

Blue Dream. I LST'd her a tiny bit earlier for a few days to promote a bit of side-growth. Worked like a charm. Let's hope I can train her all the way up:

White Russian. I had a minor Potas(K) deficiency earlier, which was corrected quickly. The Russian was the only plant who took offense to it, causing the larger/bottom fan laves to curl and yellow a bit. Since then, all new growth has been healthy. I, however, am a aficionado for letting nature do it's work, so I'm not cutting them off. My humidity is relatively low(ish), so I see no issues here:

Super Silver Haze. This girl has been a weird one to watch. She started out showing all the signs of a true sativa. Since then, she's been plumping up quite a bit. Not to mention she smells like a truck of sour skunks already. One of the few plants I've seen that exhibits an end-game scent this early. Love it.

Jack the Ripper. Who doesn't love Subcool? Can't wait for this plant to start flowering. This has been my favorite plant thus far out of this batch. Everything about it tells me that I am in for a real treat. Check out the BEAUTIFUL leaf structure. As well, I successfully FIM'd her about two days ago. Should have some gnarly colas here.

Strawberry Cream. The newest addition, and first slotted for the next four up. Lush, green, healthy, and bigger by the minute. One of my favorite strains too. She's been in the net-pot for 4 days now.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

New batch??!?!!! - Oh yeah, I'm germing some little bastards as well. Currently in my stockpile I possess: [DINAFEM: Blue Widow, Cali Hash Plant]-[TH Seeds: Kushage Fem, S.A.G.E Fem, Burmese Kush Fem]-[Greenhouse Seeds Co: Hawaiian Snow Fem][Sweet Seeds: Sweet Afgahni Delicious Fem, Sweet Tai Fem, Cream Caramel Fem][Ceres Seeds: Purple Fem, Fruity Thai Fem, Orange Bud Fem, White Widow Fem, Hollands Hope Fem][TGA Subcool: Chernobyl][Next Generation Seeds: Island Sweet Skunk Fem, GrapeGod Fem][G13 Labs: Pineapple Express]

And here's some Ceres Purple waking up earlier this morning. Next to her is the California Hashplant in it's shell!

The Cali Hashplant has managed to hulk out of it's shell!

Also, I FIM'd the Strawberry Cream about 6 hours ago. New nodes are sprouting already:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, for now that's what I have blooming to life in my area of destruction :)

As a show of good nature, I'll attach some pictures of what I am smoking on as of this moment! HEAT

Lemon Trainreck:

Blueberry Headband:

Blueberry Kush:

And, a buddy brought over some Paul Pierce Headband. Fanned immediately. It's definitely a headband strain, but I'm picking up a ton of OG Kush scents too. When smoked, it first tastes like you're drinking Sunny-Delight Smooth, and then Golden Grahams. So bomb:

Leave one. :joint:

The Ceres seedling is looking a bit sorry. I've got them under 4 T5s, and she still wants to reeeaach. We'll see how things pan out. CaliHP looks good. Temps are 75-80 at 90% humidity.

Looks like I pulled two new nodes on my Jack the Ripper FIM. Not bad for less than 48 from the cut! I'm loving this 4foot 6xT8 fixture. Minimal stretching, tight node grouping, and near real-time visible (re)production.

Here's the SSH. These two nodes are going to be fun to tame. A nice early top pays off :)

Group-shot. Morning temps: 70-F / 48% Humidity - These girls are loving every minute

So apparently it's against the rules to reply to someone's grow journal unless they give permission; Must be why it's so lonely in here. So here's the official statement: FEEL FREE TO REPLY/COMMENT/CRITIQUE/DEBATE.

Things are coming along fine. I will be building my DWC buckets and installing the final hardware in the flower tent tomorrow. Should be picking up an A/C too. I don't feel like dealing with temps above ninety. Everything is regulated by the Central A/C and Heating within my house, but being that these tents are in the attic/loft of a two story house in California that I "Dexter"d with Visqueen plastic: Shit will get a tad warm around the tents this summer, surely bringing temps in to the 90s. Standalone A/C it is. Worth the 300$.

Flowering sometime next week. Potting the babies within the next few days. Here's some root-porn in the meantime. The brownish spots are from the rapid rooter plugs I used. They seem to dissolve and filter through the hydroton. Aside from that, I have a very hearty veg mix running right now, and the Great White mycorrhizae is keeping things clean and healthy.

Here are the lights I'm using.

I'm paying attention man! looks real good so far!!!!!! That strawberry cream, is that clone??

Yea, the SC is a clone! What a beautiful strain. I'd like to pull off that "pink mist" that strawberry strains seem to get coated in near the end of flower. The complex coloring is really fun :) - I can definitely tell you're a fan of the fruit strains. Anything you REALLY suggest? I'm a flavor guy for sure. A buddy once grew some Genesis OG, and it was out-of-this-world fruity. Thanks for watching!

<3 RAW King Size Slims

Gonna head out in a little while for a bit of skateboarding. After, I will be building my buckets and reservoirs today, so tune in for some pictures of the fully set-up flower tent!

Well, as promised, and about 10 minutes late, I got them in to the buckets today. Picked up a LG Standalone A/C as well. The store was sold out so I snagged the floor model for a nice discount. WIN. Grabbed some Open Sesame, Cha-Ching, Beasty Bloomz, and Snow Storm. Got home and went to work building my buckets. Right now I'm using 3gallon buckets with a 10 gallon reservoir in the middle. Drilled some holes in the bottoms, threw some 3/4 grommets in and piped them in to the tank. Running a 6" Centrifugal fan outside the tent sucking through both ballasts, and the central air/cooling for my house being piped in below the plants. The A/C is piped out of the tent as well, and is absolutely doing WORK in that little tent. The environment is completely in my control now :) Anyways, here's the pictures.

Root porn :)

Well, that's it for now. I plan to Veg and Train for roughly a week, possibly less, and throw them in to flower. Shooting for 9-10 weeks with em, but I'm prepared to endure longer. Pull up a chair and leave a comment! If you see anything wrong let me know. I'm not completely new to this, but I don't know everything :)

Buckets are so much fun man :) In the right hands a tiny little setup is a force. I'm shooting to pull one pound per light, but plan on falling short for the first cycle or two. You really have complete control over feeding (can be bad for some people). Thanks for stopping in. smoke

Quick update: Checked on the plants this morning, and they are taking to the buckets swimmingly. Seedlings will get placed in their net-pots this morning, and I will be acquiring another clone as well. Pics in a bit.

Todays update:

Plants are loving their buckets. They seem to have nearly doubled in size, in under 24 hours. Leaves are lush, and limbs are tough. Flowering soooon. The root are really starting to take hold. Me and a friend re-routed the ducting to increase the amount of air being scrubbed, and piped in to the Veg box as well. All in all, the tent immediately dropped 10 degrees without the help of my AC. Needless to say, I'm pumped about that. Aside from that, today is the day I work on my power supply. Tripping breakers is no fun. Anyways, here's some pics :)

Blue Dream:

Jack the Ripper:

The Strawberry Cream and Seedlings are still nice and happy in my veg box

That's it for now. The Flowering photoperiod will begin very, very soon :) Pull up a chair if you haven't already.

Benny Tea brewing.

No way should I ever need hydrogen peroxide to have a savage root system. Nutrient buildup/gunk and root rot are no fun in a deep water culture. No better way to beef up your nutrient intake and growth development than with some beneficial microbe tea.

every thing you got going on is beautiful... im starting a dwc in a 3.5 gallon bucket soon im just accumulating the right stuff i got the bubble boy single shot off of HTGsupply and now i nedd a few more things.... I have a couple questions if you dont mind.... What do you use to take your temp in your water? and how do you maintain that temp? also what nutes are you using? and do you add nutes from the first day you put the seedling in the hydroton or should i wait a week or two?

Thanks :) Sounds like you're on the right track. As far as gathering my water temperatures, I don't. If you keep the environment at 70-75 degrees, your reservoir should be about the same. At those temps you shouldn't run in to any problems. Besides, if you plan on regulating the water temps beyond room temps you'll need a water chiller anyways. Once you have on of those, your reservoir temps will be whatever you want them to be. For DWC, I've found that Botanicare is a great medium for quality and price. It's a really kind nutrient system that your plants will love from start to finish. On top of that, I use Great White, Botanicare Sweet, Liquid Karma, Open Sesame, Beastie Bloomz, Cha-Ching, and Humboldt Snowstorm Ultra. You really don't need all that, but I would highly suggest Liquid Karma and Snowstorm :) - Seedlings don't need anything but PH'd water for a while. Once they develop a few leaf sets I begin to introduce small amounts of food through a top drop system. If need be, you can cut the pump and top feed water if you think they aren't ready for nutrients yet. Once the roots hit the water, the plants take control from there. At that point you just need to be conscious of what your roots are meddling in at all times. I mix my nutrients at about 75% strength and walk it up to full strength with each feeding. By the time your plants are picking up speed a few weeks in to flower, you should be able to feed them full strength with no issues at all. Hope that helped! Let me know how it goes

Today's update:

Veg Box: Picked up a new Mako Haze clone from a well trusted source. She's recently transplanted but should do just fine in her new home. The Strawberry Cream is looking so nice. The early FIM I attempted seems to have split multiple ways to include three new nodes, but there remains a definitive top node. This one might need a few more toppings before flower, while the others catch up :) Seedlings are coming along as well. The little dots are mist droplets. Here's they are:

Strawberry Cream

Mako Haze (Day Zero)

Seedlings

----------------------------------------------------------------

Flower Room (Still running veg photoperiod):

Wasn't happy with the placement of the buckets using that 10-Gal reservoir. Swapped it out and refitted for a much more space efficient system. I can now run the water level to the absolute brim if I wanted to, and am currently sitting 1-2 inches below. The reservoir is super easy to swap out now as well. Here's the pics:

Blue Dream lid-shot

Jack the Ripper lid-shot

Water level when lid is closed

Your roots will tell you if they like it :)

New placement

Buckets, Grommets, T's, and Tubing. All you need for a simple do-it-yourself DWC.

Reservoir level

-----------------------------------------------------

Well, all in all, I'm getting them situated in their new home for a little while longer and throwing it in to flower. From this point forward, it will be a (2X)4x4 perpetual side by-side grow in the flower room. The veg room will be filled as needed when needed to prepare for room being made in the flower room.

Hey, man. Great DWC. I love a clean system and it sure looks like you thought things out from the beginning. I'm guessing this isn't your first time doing this?

Sweet grow. I wanna expand what I'm doing with a mother room similar to your tent setup. I'll be watching your grow. I'm not going to wish you luck because I can tell you don't need it.

Thanks man! We all need a little luck here and there :) Your grow looks great too. I'm not new to growing, but I am still learning daily. I guess any grower could say that :-P See ya around
