hello my fellow farmers i'm very new to this and for the last month i've been trying to learn how to clones. My friend recently gave me a really good looking female candi plant i've brought her out of shock and re-potted into a bigger pot but what i have noticed is that some of her leaves are a little dark than some of the other could you please tell me what i'm doing wrong. Is it something she needs i'm not trying to flower her just using her for clones i have bat guno when i repotted her i used mix into the soul how often do i use the guano. i really need your advice to get me back on track thanks, yes i have a set up and a 250 watt sodium light.

I saw your post in the power use thread. Like I said U may want to use frolesents for your veg, and switch to the HPS when you cut back to 12 hours for the bloom. This will definatly help in your situation.

P.S. I've bloomed at 10 on 14 off before. If U do this you will cut off almost 100kWh from the 16 hour days, and save yourself some cash.

hey there i havent got florecent lights i just spent all my money on a hps light and stuff but i got a duel spectrum that works for veg. i just cut from 18 hrs to 16hrs veg stage so i save 2 hrs do they not grow better with hps?
if i thought a strip light from the kitchen was gonna work i would have got one is that as good? i heard they were pretty bad for growing. not enough of the right light and intensity. but my babies are growing fine they are growing i think 2 cm a day. would it do that with florecent lights? as for the power its gonna cost but for now im not gonna have it on all the time i will do 1 crop and maybe another sometime next year(dont want my electricity company wondering why my usage has tripled!) i got a pic of my growing space. ill try and post it.
with the 10 on 14 off flowering? i take it that only saves electricity on flowering?
cheers

On your first point. Yes your HPS will grow them faster, and yes total floresent grow is no good if you can help it. In very small enclosures with little circulation Compact Floresent Lights (CFL's) work, not tubes "strip light". However if power use is an issue a CFL per plant with home made foil reflectors will get you through the vegitive stage (16-18 hour days). A 25watt or so each should do with a total of 100W an hour and @18 hours a day is only 54kWh to your bill vs 216kWh for the 400W. Be creative when it comes to fixtures, old lamps or light fixtures and a few wire clothes hangers will save you a few extra bucks. If you do this let me know and I can give you some more tips on getting/making your own fixtures.

On the flowering/budding stage question. Yes -120kWh@10hours- -144kWh@12hours- so you'll save 24kWh by doing 10 hour days.

i think im gonna stay with the hps just now see how this crop grows.. how long will it take with 25w to grow cfl ? how much does a bulb cost ? and i take it you can put it in a regular fixture.
From what ive read hps seems to be the best and quickest due to its intensity and spectrum why would i buy a 400w hps if it is better doing it with cfl or is it just cheaper and not so good?
all i have read about is metal halide hps for growing. can you tell me more?

Hi FARMER

HPS bulbs are the best way to go. BUt they require more investement and care during the setup. For HID lights (HPS or MH) to be BETTER.. they need to be kept at close proximity to the foliage. The lights get very very hot and it can be difficult to keep the lights close to yor plants.. Especially if you are growing in an enclosed area..

SOOOOO if you are going to be growing with HIDs you need to exhaust your room/lights so that you can take the heat away from your plants...

If it is not possible to take the heat away and you are forced to move the light farther from your plants.. then it really defeats the purpose of using HIDs..

Ya dude; your gona be cutting your times back in no time anyways so you wouldnt save much in electrisity at this point.

As for how long to grow. Im just talking about useing them for about 2-4 weeks. Enough time to get them out of the ground and veged then switch to your HPS when your ready to bloom.

Regular Fixtures. Yes and No see the next links.

Price. Really good ones can get pricey but those are if your gonna do a full grow with them. The only important thing is that they be 6100k (kelvin). This is the white/blue spectrum ideal for propogation and vegative stage growing.

and how long will it normally take with my hps(duel spectrum) till i want the flowering to start? is that a variable thing depending on how big a yield your wanting or something like that? my young'ins have four leaves now and are looking healthy still got their seed leaves how long will they usually stay on for? and is 18 inches ok for hps? or do i need it closer?
cheers

Hi Farmer..

You can grow the plants as big as you want..
The biggest factor is NUMBER OF PLANTS... if you only have 4 plants under a 1000 watt HPS then you can wait until they are 12-24 inches tall before you flower..

If you have 10-14 plants under a 1000 watt HPS you will want to flower around 8-16 inches tall...

It also depends on hw close you can get your light to your plants. Personally, I focus a lot of attention on exhaust and ventilation and make sure that I can draw the heat away from my lights.. This way, the lights are always 12 inches or LESS from the foilage..

every 12 inchs the lights (HID) loose have their lumens (growing power).SUPER BIG think heavy bud HAPPEN when lights are close to the PLANTS!!

If your plants do get really big, you can always add side lighting.. Sidelighting helps tremendously. I saw a single plant that had a 1000 watt HPS bulb overhead with 14 - 100 watt ENVIROLIGHTS on the sides.,... for a total of 2400 watts on a single plant.. The plant yielded 3.5 LBS....

freaky HUH!!

thats some pretty crazy stuff wow.. any ways i dont really want more than 3 or 4 plants as the more i have the more it smells and the more it smells the more chance my girlfriends father will notice it. so i have 2 white widow one purple power and 400w hps. i wont be changing this set up but i will be trying to use it in the best way possible. is it just the heat from the light that burns or the intensity when its too close?
flowers looking really healthy still.
ive got some boost fert and stuff in the post so that will help. is there a best time to start with fert? i know they say soil has about 3 weeks worth of fert in it but is there a particular time to do it? Eg: when seed leaves are gone or something?
i think my lights are under 18 inches away now i managed to lower them and all i had to do to adjust the temp was open the door a bit wider.

Your 400W HPS will do a 3 square foot area at about 6000 Lumes per square foot.

From what i have read 2000 lumens per square foot would be minimun for our plants. Mid range is around 5000 lumens per square foot. Optimal is 7000 to 7500 or higher lumens per square foot.
So you should be on your way to a nice harvest.

Reducing seed meat/leafs is a sign of needing nutriants. Just start on about 1/8th-1/10th of dosage and work your way up every couple waterings.

excellent. the humidity is about 30 I keep spraying water everwhere and it goes up by 5, some times 10 but i hear dry is good as it makes the plant produce more resin to protect the leaves but is 30 to low? it has never gone under this and i also dont expect it to but should i think of raising it? the temp and humidity are very steady. i think im gonna start with baby bio before moving on to stronger nutes the baby bio is 10.6- 4.4- 1.7 it is weaker but what do you think? or just straight on with introducing the hardcore nutes I know i need to get the plant used to it. maybe this is a good way to do it i dont know?

Always start with a diluted mixture of nutrients and watch your plants closely.. If the leaves begin to GET SUPER DARK green.. that means it is time to back off... and if the leave tips go brown/necrotic.. you have over fed..

pH ing your water is VITAL!
