ive been surfin' your forums the last couple of weeks getting all the info needed on growing indoors. I just got a 400w hps light some white widow femininsed seeds(amsterdam skunk and purple power on way) a little fan heater and a bedroom cupboard everything is set up and ready to go. the reasoning for these seeds is that they are mostly sativa. im quite new to this although i have thought about it for a long time, never had the cash to get the equipment. anyways i just wanted to say thanks for the help so far and to introduce myself as im sure i will need some experienced advice along the way to my first crop harvest. oh i have chosen john innes loam based no2 soil and will later use baby bio(tomato plant food) no pics yet but wen they start ill try and get one or two. btw im in scotland just so you know the environment, allthough im creating my own indoors at night it still gets cold.
thank you all again.
dont wory be happy

I Myself was born in scotland (greenock) but now im in a warmer climate.thank fuck....any help i can give let me know...when you turn on the 400 hps it going to heat the room up so don't worry about the cold to much have you got some vents? and what about flo's for the start because you can't use the hps from the start all the best joe...

I got a little fan heater that blows cold air enough for circulation and my cupboard's next to the window so new supply of fresh air is also available. i found i can keep the light/heat at a steady 85f if i leave the door open slightly(and better air circulation). I have got a duel spectrum growlux light coming today but i was kinnda preparing the room to see how it would handle heat for the past few days its been on. i planted 2 white widow seeds(feminised) yesterday. the humidity is low about 35 but i assume the humidity will go up slightly as the plant developes. if i leave the door open the humidity is around 40 so i guess so far any problems have been sorted by opening the door.
cheers.
one more question how much would ,say 4 plants really smell, is it as bad as people say? or is it only when you have lots i know they stink but when theres not many are the neighbours still gonna enjoy the sweet smell?

Sounds great mate, the temp's might get abit high try keeping it about 80f, and put a bucket of water in there aswell too bump up the humidity abit, as for the smell ive had 1 plant that stanck out my house for two weeks and that wase'nt a widow so 4 white widow ooh that will stink, but you have time before you have to worry about that...good luck what part of scotland you from?

i suppose the smell will only be for a few weeks so i guess that should be ok. i come from the west highlands of Scotland where usually moisture is never a problem,
i got a big bucket of water in there so that should help I think my main problem will be inpatience.lol
cheers.

hey all. I found the little fan was actully making the heat higher in the room and costing a fortune in electricity so i removed it and i got a temp of 80f flat.also humidity is up to 40. i think i got enough ventilation from looking at them. Can any one tell me how much roughly its gonna cost me for a 400w hps on 18 hours a day in electricity? or how much i should expect?
cheers
Oh! my duel spectrum light came yesterday so all is go..

:weed: The temptations will be VERY HARD. I concider myself quite capable of self restraint, but when those buds start poping out :weed: .

Just try and stay away from the top of the plants when you just cant wait another second.

By the way how many are you gona do total, and how big is your cupboard?

yeah there is only one cure for the temptation. keep buying it until you harvest and cure. your plants will love you for not fondling them and sticking your nose all over their sweet smelling buds

hint:
get a propagator for your seedlings!!

they will dry out otherwise

i found a propagator invaluable for the clones

Wait, since when are the Scottish and Irish brothers? I thought they hated each other? And don't you both think the English are Wankers/Doss Cunts?

How deep did you put the seeds?

hey, if you want some history the scots came from ireland in the very begining and took over the picts so i guess we are the same and yes i think we both hate what the english have done, im not sure who hates more but i think us since the irish can escape from them to heir little island.

My seeds have sprouted they came out last night and are now about 2 cm
I am growing 2 white widows and 2 skunk plants (not germenated yet.)
I used tissue to germinate them and then in soil bout 0.5 cm although after planting 1 i dropped the pot and it all fell out so i dont know about that one but its through now so i guess it doesnt mater my cupboard is about 7 foot tall 5 feet wide and 3 foot deep although about the last 1.5 foot height is a shelf so ill be keeping them relitavley bushy. tempertaures are perfect so far day and night but i think its costing about 2 or 3 pound a day in electricity is this normal? i think for such a small crop maybe 400w is too big? if i were growing more the electricity will be worth while but i cant grow more as it will smell and my girlfriends dad is a police man so got to be carefull. but gonna stick with it, only problem is that we pay electricity up front and it can also run out when i got no money so must be real carefull. all day tv is off lights are off i use nothing else just to keep the price down but real happy i been in there all morning singing to them songs like let it grow by eric clapton. "bud is lovely ,so let it grow". im trying to find cables for my pc so i can take a couple of fotos but ill leave it till you can actually see something good. so i think i am now in the veg stage for the white widow.hmmmmm

I did a spread sheet for power usage https://www.rollitup.org/indoor-growing/3284-power-consumption-light-cost.html#post24103 that I think is prety cool. Check it out.

You can/should use floresents for you 18 on veg period this will help with power during those long days of light.

As for the 400 being overkill no way, you will be quite pleased with its results.

If your gona let them get tall you may also want to do a string lattus at about the 3 foot level in the cubord to keep the stems spread out and geting even light.
