is 1000 watt too much for this setup

i have one grow under my belt using cfl and with one plant in soil

ive already started construction on 4 "homemade bubbleponics" resevoirs with two net pots in each in order to facilitate roots.

the plan is to grow eight white widow plants to maximum size
vegging for about six weeks or until they grow to about five feet after being topped

the grow space is a closet that is about four by four and about eight feet deep it has absolutely nothing in it (shelves, racks, etc.) so the entire space is available

for lighting a 1000 watt HPS ballast with both HPS and a MH interchangeable bulb, enclosed and vented reflector was in mind

sinse i am growing eight plants to a more than average height i think that a 1000 watt would be appropriate but, i have never used HID before so i figure that I'd put it up for discussion

this and any extra tips would be greatly appreciated

i would use a 600 for that space, 1k maybe with good ventilation but it would still be a waste of electricity IMHO. Why do they need to be so fucking tall? I would not expect a 5' plant in 6 weeks either. Maybe check out the grow FAQ.

i thought thousand watt because i would be growing them tall and it would accelerate the growth rate as well as make some really tight buds

also where i live they base your sentence on yrs per plant which is why i'm shooting for quanity per plant as opposed to multiple smaller plants

and i meant six weeks or five feet whichever comes first

I'll just offer this up for consideration because it's what I was thinking about lately. Some of what I say are based on what I think the equipment out there can do technically.

The depth your light reaches into the canopy is a factor but one I don't know how to appreciate yet. A question I'm asking myself is whether or not I would care if the bottom third of the plants are not pristine resin coated as long as the top third was insane- I would not ever be growing to sell, just for personal. But even 1000w might have it's limitations reaching the bottom third of plants and could be "overkill" for the top half in that space.

When I look at spectrums and lumens on different bulbs it seems to me that for vegging and even the first month of flowering this Hortilux blue would be ideal especially in your size grow space. It only has 36k lumens but at 9-12" from the plants it seems like more than enough for veg and has a complete spectrum EYE Hortilux BLUE

Add to that this 400w Super HPS and it's an additional 55k lumens of the flower spectrum but still only uses 400w. EYE Hortilux Super HPS

I would have to find a dual 400w MH/HPS ballast, timers and dual lamp but I think they are out there. I would hope to find a digital dual if that's available. The flexibility of a system like that seems incredible and I would have 90,000 lumens available if I needed it but for a large duration of the grow only need to run 400w of either lamp.

Does anyone have a ballpark estimate of the monthly elect

Also, I like looking at HTG because their lamp/bulb packages tell you how much space the system will cover and they say all their 600w systems are good for 5x5-8x8 so 600 seems like plenty. They have the dual arcs if nobody has mentioned them and those seem like a real simple and effective option.

i think if the room was properly ventilated then you could use a 1000w hps..but i dont think growin monsters with it is worth it because the light pentration certainly isnt gonna penetrate 5feet(well to get nice nugz anyway)I would probably scrog them instead i think you'd get more bud and you wont have to veg the hell outta them and you'd have an even canopy...somethin to think about anyway...good luck

1000 watts should be great as long as you can keep the heat under control.
I have a 1000 watts in a 4' X 8' X 8' room. I went with the 6" air cooled hood system from HTG for $315.

if u let those veg til they are 5' you will have 15' plants lol... i would stop them at 2'-2-1/2' for an 8' clearance... your light will hang and u still need 12-18" of space between the top of the plants and the light...

as far as light penetration i was going to top them in order to keep them bushier so more tops would benefit from the extra lumens of 1000 as opposed to 600

but ive already ordered the digital ballast from htg so i can use mh and hps, also im using the reflector they sell with the adjustable socket and the 6 inch flange which should provide enough ventilation with a 120 cfm duct fan
