Is it worth it to scrog at this point?

It's my first grow and I've successfully topped my plant, then proceeded to LST while the plant gets big enough to reach my scrog screen. It's less than an inch away now, but it's already bushed out so much that it's nearly filled the space scrog would have. If I used the screen I might spread it out about 6 inches on each side, but there's not enough space for every branch to come up and be woven into the screen, many branches would simply be left out and deprived of the light they would have had. Should I keep with the scrog plan and trim these branches off to make clones? My concern is that the amount of branches I would have to remove would certainly shock/stunt the plant. Plant definitely seems to prefer making new branches and spreading wide than growing vertically, and by the time any branches grow high enough to weave into the screen the whole space (2x2.5) will be filled in anyway (albeit not as perfectly flat, though pretty close)

So basically is it worth it to use scrog if I am not increasing the footprint much if at all in doing so?

EDIT: my plan had been to cover about 80% of screen before flipping. I've heard of people waiting until just before it reaches the net to flip, but figured that wasn't the point of scrog. My plant is already spread out about 80% of screen space it just hasn't reached it yet.

If they are filling the screen in veg then DEF NO! how long have you vegged them if they are filling screen in veg?

From personal experience, if you train too early in veg, when it stretches the first couple weeks of flower it may get too leggy. Depending on strain of course.

Trained too early, very leggy, scrog totally filled, lots of small nugs. Quality was there but makes for alot more trim work, especially when theres quite a few to take down:
IMG_0418.JPG We did have our main light go down just before flip so these ended up being vegged 2 weeks Longer than planned wile we got funds together to upgrade to a 630 cmh setup. IMG_0629.JPG I had flipped these in a tent that was far too small! Almost 2 weeks before i moved them into a bigger tent with a proper scrog in place. Canopy a tad uneven but not bad and i think results will be better in regards to overall quality of the harvest.

Flipped two nights ago. I've been vegging her since April but only the last month under sufficient light (was just hanging out in a window before). It's about 11 inches tall and 14 wide. It looked a lot bigger before I defoliated right before I flipped it, maybe a bit excessively but I didn't notice shock. It's in a 7 gallon container but lost a lot of root mass when I transplanted it. It's green crack grown from bagseed. I'm having issues with imgur right now...

maybe its old school. but the difference between a fancy support screen and a scrog is a sea/screen of green

scrogs are vegged, with each new meristem weaved in and out of each screen opening. Pinching, etc is used to cause more of these quicker. When the screen is full , each desired hole has a new meristem ready to bud aiming up, everything under the screen is skirted for air flow under the thick screen of multiple buds, one cola per hole. then the system is flowered for a solid cola in each hole, as wide a spread as your are/light can handle, all from one plant.

Fancy support Screen= same screen placed over a plant while plant is allowed to grow at will, then flowered, buds under screen, a few buds in the holes, keeps the plant spread open, but is not a sea of green

If it was my first time growing a plant I'd allow it to grow naturally and get to know it before I trained and stressed and fussed with it.

Strains that go through a big stretch you may not want to scrog train in veg very much, the stretch period provides you ample opportunity to weave and train out. My pics were intended as examples of too early and too late. I was able to pin back a couple in the second pic! I agree with you on getting familiar. I had quite a bit of experience before i started doing my own thing and my learning curve is still at a pretty good incline. At the risk of sounding corny, bond with your plants. Get to know your plants and what they need and theyll tell you what they want.
