Maybe so, but the ammoniacal nitrogen doesn't flush out of the media as easily as nitrate. Ammoniacal nitrogen is just not for hydroponics, it is for soil with microbial activity.

That's why it's only there in relatively small proportion, just to manage pH. Plants do want some ammoniacal nitrogen, maybe up to 15%.
New to Jack's. I'm going to use the Classic 20-20-20 with the Bloom Buster. Jack's webpage recommends using both in combination at 1 tablespoon per 2 gals.
Most comments I've seen on this thread seem to indicate a dosage level of 1/4 tbsp per gallon. What is the right amount?

To be brutally honest, the correct dose is the one your plants respond to best in the environment you've set up for them.
Rephrasing your question to ask how this is best accomplished helps answer it; start light and increase gradually.

Depending on the many variables involved, I start plants at apx. 1/4 TSP per gallon of water.
Then, depending upon growth rate, I raise the amount of Jack's up to 1/2 to 3/4 and then the most that I ever use for INDOOR plants under HIDs is 1 TEASPOON per gallon.
More is less.
And I feed with each and every watering.
I like Jacks Citrus FeED.
I used to use the Classic combined with the Bloom Booster.
Now I use the Citrus all the way through harvest.

Can the citrus feed be used in hydroponics as it's not listed in the hydro section on their store. I am just starting to harvest my first ever grow which I did with Jacks Citrus and it worked great and was so easy. This should be the go to nute for any newbie just starting. Promix/Citrus/Cal-Mag is all that was necessary.

For hydro, you need a mix that uses calcium nitrate and potassium nitrate (mostly calcium nitrate) to provide N.
Urea based nutes won't work in hydro, especially in DWC or aero.. It's meant for soil and insoluble calcium fortified potting mixes.

Hello Jack's people!
I just jumped off the Fox Farm bus and ordered some Jack's stuff factory direct off their website. For 1.5 lbs. of their citrus 20-10-20 and 8 oz. each of their 20-20-20 general purpose, 10-30-20 bloom & 30-10-10 higher N for possible strains that want more N, it came to $26.76 plus an $11.89 FedEx fee...
That's years worth of ferts for the price of 2 bottles of FF stuff that is frequently 3/4 of the way to the expiration date when I pick it off the store shelf. Did you know that the FF feeding schedule now calls for 16 teaspoons of stuff in a gallon of H2O at times?
5 years ago I thought FF was the way to go, all they do is keep adding unnecessary shit...hopefully, I'm smartening up. How colorful the bottles are is meaningless. I love the thought of a long shelf life...threw enough expired stuff away or into tomato & pepper plants in the summer.
Any tips on feeding? Was thinking veg. with citrus 20-10-20...start flower with 20-20-20, use 10-30-20 a couple weeks into flower?
You guys go along with that?
Switched after looking at fert receipts over last few years. I'm feeling a little retarded spend that kind of money to grow a pound at a time under a 600 with LED sides. I use Promix BX, Happy Frog and Ocean Forest dirt mixes.

Im about to do same. Have been doing fine on FF. I use it lightly.
Was told to go to Canna but seems like there are better options. So thought id try dynagrow but again not sure. Seems jacks may be way to go just need to research more. Is there another thread for newbs?

So from what I'm reading I gather citrus will not work in coco? I think I'm going to try it anyway with cal/mag added.
