Kieth Olbermann was suspended indefinitely without pay after the president of MSNBC became aware of political contributions to 3 democratic candidates.
even i find olbermann to be over the top and stretching the boundaries of truth to present his case at times. so for this, all i can say is:

I actually kinda like him. He is a funny guy and he was great when he was on Sportscenter. I find most liberal and conservate commentators to be over the top so he fits right in!:bigjoint:

don't get me wrong, as a bearded marxist i love what he has to say, just wish he would make the case more honestly.

and yes, he ROCKED on sportscenter.

thats why anyone who wants to donate to an election hopeful needs to create a corporation, then you have no limitations nor any liabilities. If olbermann had done such a thing he could have donated more and he would still have his job. These people aren't as smart as they want you to believe.

Olbermann is a hack. I hope he gets fired and replaced by Maddow. You know who else is a hack? Anyone complaining about MSNBC using liberal commentators but not complaining about Fox using conservative commentators.

he should present himself with the worst person in the world award.

just for being a hypocrite.

maddow did give a good speech last night about this... she pointed out how paid fox news contributers like palin and rove, and even fox news 'anchors' and commentators have donated to, and openly endorsed multiple conservative candidates without any action taken by news corp, and how her coleague keith's scenario speaks to the kind of organization msnbc is.

i didn't buy it.

i mean, after olbermann spent his nights bashing beck and them for donating and endorsing candidates, and insinuating the act was deplorable and unbecoming of a news organization's employees................ and he's doing the same shit....

he wouldn't have gotten in trouble if he'd made those donations public... which i think is bullshit..

NoDrama is right, the supreme court allows for the annonymous political campaigning... all you have to do is form a non-profit, tax-exempt 'shell' corporation....

MSNBC is taking some heat for using liberal commentators to anchor their election coverage. Fox did not do this. They used conservative commentators to give analysis but they didn't actually anchor the coverage. I honestly don't think it's that big of a deal. I also don't think it's that big of a deal that Olbermann contributed to democratic candidates. The irony was too good to pass up though. He and his cohorts over at MSNBC have been harping about Fox's liberal commentators and Rupert Murdoch donating to conservative candidates. Hypocrite much? I think that both of these so called news organizations are pretty much a joke. Whenever I need a good laugh I usually turn on one or the other for a little bit until my mood has lifted. It really is funny shit because they both spend so much time pointing the finger at one another instead of actually reporting real news. Many of the liberals around here are quick to bash Fox when they do something like this. Fair is fair, right?;-)

Its for a good reason that journalist and news organizations must remain objective. The day you start presenting news with a bias, is the day you stop reporting news and enter into entertainment or propaganda. Its not the job of a journalist to make news or attempt to influence public opinion. Their job is to report the facts and allow the public to form an opinion on their own.

MSNBC was right to suspend him. I wish RIU would do the same with some of its mods on this board for violating the ethical standards of objective representation of information.

It wasn't a comment directed at any poster. It was referring to who ever was criticizing msnbc for using liberal commentators.

Yeah, pretty much. Olbermann certainly does the exact same thing as O'Rilley and Hannity. He's not the only one either. That Ed show guy is just as bad. MSNBC should clean their act up a little. In theory I should be their target audience, but I can't even watch it. Too often they speak to the lowest common denominator just like fox.

I can watch Maddow, but she speaks intelligently. Olbermann and Co just crack cheap jokes about republicans all day. Gets old quick. Them and Fox (and most of CNN) are all unwatchable to me.

Not liberal commentators in general. Evidently they used them to anchor the election coverage, which Fox didn't do. The only problem I see in this is that a lot of people don't know that both organizations are extremely biased. Again, I don't see it as a huge scandal, just that it was funny how Olbermann has been finger pointing for years and then gets the smackdown by MSNBC for doing the same exact thing. I honestly wish he would just go back to Sportscenter. He was way better in that role IMO.:bigjoint:

Yeah, Fox doesn't get bonus points for that. They are both bad. Any nitpicking into the details on their behalf (or anyone else in the media's behalf) is very hackish. MSNBC has liberal commentators on way too much, fox has conservative commentators on way too much. Picking out a single broadcast where Fox happened to have less commentators on than MSNBC is pointless. No, it's not a special circumstance.

Never seen him on sportcenter, but I could see how his personality would be better suited for sports.

I wasn't nitpicking anything. I was paraphrasing what was in the article! I also said I didn't think it was that big a deal, but I see how a conflict of interest could be interpreted. I wasn't defending one over the other. I've got some serious issues with both networks and only watch them very occasionally when I need a laugh. I think you are missing the point though. The point of the OP was the hypocrisy. Had it been Bill O'Reilly or Glenn Beck in the article it would be the same thing. It wasn't! Seriously? I must've taken a wrong turn at Albuquerque! :wall:
