Ladybug alternatives?

OK.
So ladybugs get stuck in CFL's and die.

And it was time to flower, so I bought a HPS, because I hear it is best for flower, and because there's no way ladybugs can get stuck in a single bulbous bulb.

Well, I smell somethin burning.
New HPS, so I check all hardware.
Hardware is ok.
Smell?
Ladybugs are barbequeing on the HPS bulb.
I imagine they melt their wings as soon as they hit.

I do not want to use insecticides, soaps , etc.
Is there a good alternative to ladybugs?

Will a preying mantis be better?
I imagine it would just fill up on my ladybugs, and leave the tiny creatures I cannot see.

And another dumb question............

What do I use to clean?
And how should I clean my HPS bulb now?

use a spirit based window/glass cleaner. like windex or windoleen. it wont leave resedue like water based cleaners. failing that warm water on a cloth and then buffed with a dry cloth
