LED debate!

What is the best LED for flowering?

I was looking at one of those 90w red and blue UFOs and also trying to find a cheaper version of the Kessil H150 LED. What have you guys used with the most success?
An all red or magenta Kessil will outperform higher powered ufos. But you could try those GrowSpot bulbs by Sunshine Systems, for less money. Maybe a couple of those would serve you well. I don't know, I haven't bought one yet. I've been tempted.

edit: from their website:

Sunshine Systems LED Grow Light Benefits
Up to 80% energy savings vs. Metal Halide & HPS grow lights
Suitable for all stages of growth. Seed to Flower to Fruit (see results)
Proven industry leader (Producing LED grow lights since 2007)
Discreet - virtually no heat emitted
50,000+ hour lifecycle
Green Product - No Harmful substances- Environmentally friendly)
Proven results (view the image galleries throughout the site)

(They claim one bulb is equal to 150w HPS, MH or T5 bulb.)

I just checked around, and Greners.com has them cheaper.

There's a free shipping code on their website, but you've got to find it.

Be interesting to hear about your results.

thought i'd throw up some actual pics from the grow spot
just if anyone wanted more info
I shot that ceiling pic to show its coverage. it seems to fan out pretty fast that about a 7 foot circle of light with the grow spot 42 inches away from ceiling

Just copped 240watts of led for 260 bucks, I was thinking the same thing you were. There is no way in hell that 35W will out perform 240W.

Maybe after a grow or two i can look into em but right now im too invested into my wattage heh. i have seen alot of ppl talking about those kessils but when i saw they were 36w for like 250 i was like damn. IDK my thinking is even if its the best light spectrum period you still need the wattage to put out more light for more plants and at 250 a pop for a small amount of coverage i just wonder. My lights are doing me pretty good right now but i wish i would have known about em before spending what i did as i would have given em a fair lookn at.

Yeah, and only 30 of those watts is light. The rest is for the fan. But Kessils defy logic, I'm here to tell you. They have a concentrated light stream that results in an unbelievably powerful plant response. I can hardly believe what I've seen.

BTW, I have the light you just bought, if it's the Blackstar. I haven't had a chance to use it, but I'm looking forward to it, especially after what KaptK has said about his.

Good luck.

I run 4 Kessils 2 magenta in flower and 2 blue in Veg they are amazingly powerful little suckers. While I have 2 600w HPS in my flower room I use the 2 Magentas and want 4 more reds aswell. They seem to promote crystal developement and growth very well and produce minmal heat while running off like 30watts. I have a perpetual style grow going and use the Magenta LEDS in the first 3 weeks of Flowering. My thought are Blue for veg, Magenta for early flower and Red for the rest of Flower. Doing this I'm hoping to mimic nature lighting patterns by slowly going from more blue spectrum in veg to more red spectrum in flower.

Best of Luck

Yeah dude, they are the real deal. My eyes hurt just looking at the grow room. Make sure you get a UV Model.

never a bad thing to have 240W of LED laying around. Seeing as how the UFO prices are right up there with the 240W prices, I'd be pissed that I spent around that amount of money and didn't get the whole salami. Worst case scenario, if your cloner isn't in use, toss it in with your other rooms. More light, especially LED, never can make a situation worse.

Local shop is pushing Kessil's. The hydrofarm rep was there and they were unloading an entire box of the new H150 Kessil LED lights...

http://www.kessil.com/

The HydroFarm rep said HydroFarm ran a test on all the LEDs they stock including Stealth Grow LEDs and that the Kessil's blew them all awway hands down. Swore I would love them...I said I'd pass for now, but maybe in a year....we'll see. Considering supplemental lighting for my grow and considering maybe using these Kessils or some additional T5 or CFLs for side lighting..

These lights rock except for the price, that is entirely out of most price ranges, best results or not. Seems to me everyone is doing just as well as everyone else with all manner of LEDs if you follow the threads, with few exceptions (kessil, haight, no name, blackstar, ect...). I like kessil, but you can tell me that I can grow more plants under a 35W Kessil as I can under a 240W blackstar (about same price). Especially since the blackstar is more than 1 spectrum for that price...Kessil will be the shit at about 100 bucks a light.

The most impressive grow thread I ever followed was a totally LED grow. Several years back, on a similar board that is now defunct, a member came into a tidy sum of money and decided to dump his HID lighting and switch to LED lighting. He researched to find the very best LED lights and he purchased a good number of different styles.

Above his plants he had two large LED panels. He built what I call portable posts, for the lack of a better term, 4 X 4 posts cut in sections that would stack on top of each other, with a flat piece of plywood attached to the bottom of each portable post set for balance. (If I were making them I would make them out of PVC piping.)

Each section of stackable post was long enough to hold an LED light bar. On some portable posts he attached LED light bars to one side and on others he attached LED light bars to all four sides. He ringed his plants with portable posts with an LED on one side and once the top LED light panels were raised high enough he added more portable posts with LED light bars on all four sides between his plants. Each time the top LED lighting was raised enough for another section of portable post with more LED light bars on them he would add another section.

His plants were the thickest most lush plants I have ever seen grown indoors. The colas were massive and the buds on the lowest portions of plants were as large or larger than most I see people get just under the bottom of their colas, meaning larger than most people’s very biggest buds other than their colas are.

The key to LED lighting is to purchase the highest grade LED lights available and to purchase them in sufficient numbers AND then use them in a way that they will be able to do the very most they can for the plants growing from their light.

If people did that they would throw rocks at CFLs and HID lighting and never use either ever again. In most cases people purchase low quality LEDs because of price, and purchase too few of them, again because of price, and then they tend to expect too much from them and use them incorrectly. The result is a bad rap against LED lighting when it should instead be on those who should never have spent their money on LED lighting in the first place considering how they did it.
this interest me very much...do you know where i can get more info on purchasing the best led lights...are we talking 1000's or 10,000's...1000's isnt an issue
