I have a 5x9x8 tent and want to move away from the 2 1000 hps i run because of their unmistakable energy use in the days of smart meters. I constantly see well known members glorify cobb lighting. Any suggestions for an equal counterpart to my 2 hps? It would not be very practical for me to build myself as it would take far too long for me to wrap my head around it and time equals money!! With the information i have found it would take months to even make a choice just looking for a little clarity. I welcome any thread links as well!!

~1400 cob watts would work great. im using 9 citizen clu058-1825 @75W each in half a 5x9 and its working great for me. im about to do up the other half of the tent with either 9 luminus cxm22 @ 75W each or 16 citizen 1212 gen6@ 40W each. (so youd need double either of those rigs to do your whole 5x9) you can do the whole tent with 18 cobs, heatsinks, and all teh drivers you need for about $1100 if youre handy and can build frames

2 of these . http://timbergrowlights.com/600-watt-citizen-clu048-4x4-framework/
but if you can build the frames yourself its much cheaper.1400 to 1600w in that space will perform as good as or better than the 2 x 1000w hps and you may find those 2 x 600w timber kits yield as good as your current setup.
2 of these would crush it http://timbergrowlights.com/900-watt-vero29-v7-5x5-framework/ and they are dimmable so you could run at 1400 to 1600w easy

I use 4 Amare Pro-4's in that space & am very happy. They're what I replaced my HPS w/.

Ok so you're saying that 630W of LEC will beat out 2000W of hps? That's a huge stretch since a 315 only gets a 3x3 in reality unless there's a lot of overlap. I would say that CobKits has the best option for you. If you want the best light that's out(well not yet but they rock) the chill led puts out 2.9-2.8 umols/J you would only need 600W at that to beat an HPS or even less to equal it. But they are expensive
