LED light choices?

I dont feel like buying an hps light with the fan, hood and bulb, and spend a couple hundred, and have to keep temps under control. I'm looking for something that will do well for my 2x4x6.5ft tent. Would this work? Looking for enough watts for a good yield blah blah blah, I know how the whole light travels better with an LED and yadda yadda yadda. But I still stick with more watts is better. This is what I looked at so far. Anyone have experiencw with em? I'm gonna be U Scrogging the tent. So the lgiht should work fine even though it's flat, the spectrum should blend by the time it hits the edges.

Heres what I found so far.

Looking for a good amount of wattage of LED's, at a medium price. Since good and cheap don't exist when it comes to LED's as of now.

I have never heard anything good about LEDs. The upfront cost is alot and from what I have heard they don't work well for growing, something to do with not the right light spectrum. Idk i'm still pretty new. I only have 1 successful grow from seed to harvest under my belt. I used CFLs and they seemed to work great and the energy cost was relatively low, $11-15 bucks a month. I am still working to fine tune my wattage though. Good Luck!!

I was in the same boat as you. After alot of research I decided to get the Gavitas Pro 1000 DE. In my opinion LED are not worth the money when comparing them with the Gavitas period.

My electric bill just came $75 dollars more and that's 2 gavitas, (2) 6 bulbs 4 ft t5's a couple of fans , AC wall mounted unit. can filter with its fan.

Check out this video and thank me later =)

LOL don't listen to this dude^^ You can grow great dank with the SolarStorm. Cali Lightworks even has their own forum that you can check out. I have their 200W solarflare, which is good, but let me tell you them boys over at Area51lighting are ahead of the game! They don't quit and keep improving. Their newest model is the SGS I believe, and there have been plenty of us on here who have gotten GREAT results with them.

Might I suggest you send them an email. They are really great people, tell them you're a member of rollitup and I sent you, they will be able to hook you up.

So there's nothing wrong at all with that SolarStorm, but it's almost old technology by now. Good luck!

LED's are the shit. Buy some Lighthouse hydro lights. you can buy 3 600 watters for the price of your one. They have warranties and work extremely well.

While there aren't many negatives about the Gavitas, if you're not wanting to worry about heat I don't think you would want to go that route.

+1 for Lighthouse. My little 135w Blackstar UFO works really well.

Although it's collecting dust as a backup for my HPS, I did use it and am almost ready to put it back into production here soon.

Where the hell on that site do you see a 600w light for not much less than the light I listed. Let alone almost 3 of em.

I just cant justify spending 1k on 2 of them to cover my space with them being so low wattage. I need better spread.

You have a 2x4 tent.. You would only need 1 SGS. Coverage: Minimum 24" x 24" ; Maximum 36" x 36" ; Recommended 24" x 36"

"with them being so low wattage" You want a low wattage lamp player. That's what makes the lamp so great. Go look in the LED section and ask some question over there. A51 is the shit.

I'm so glad I didn't invest lots of $$ in my clone/seed tent. .... I'm looking into LED's for that...the money spent on venting HID's isn't worth it for a small grow, and sorry CFL'ers...they give off heat also (by the time you add like a gazillion of them) .... I'm researching now...... thinking: Blackstar, SGS, and Kessil seems I can outfit my 3x2 tent for under $300 w/o the heat issues

Your right on with what you need. That solar storm is a great light and will back a big punch in that tent. It is a little old and some newer things are better and more affordable at the same time.
A51's sys's for smaller panels is hard to beat, and would work great in your space. You would need 2...but that would fit perfect(ideal 2x2 for flower) and give you basically just as intense as the solar storm but a slightly better spread. Plus a good amount less wattage for the same light output.

Here is the output in µmols for the solar storm over a 4'x4' @18" over the canopy pulling 620w

Then here is the out put in µmols for the a51 SGS over a 3'x2'@18" over the canopy pulling 155w

With 2 SGS's you will improve those numbers. And it will only be $1000 for 2 compare to the the one solar storm at $1500. Even 3 sgs's is the same price and a hair less wattage still, and would be better than a gavita(and actually possible to do in that space).

What kind of yields in what space are you averaging.? What were you avergaing before you got it dialed in? And where can I get 600w for 600 $. I'll hop on that right away.

To the others who replied on the next page.
Okay, so I need 2 sgs, got it. I'll look into it some more. 1 definitely wont do it in a 2x4 for what people are saying. But I guess it 'could' work for now since I'm vegging that tent for now.. I'll pick up 1 and see what I can do If I can find a grow or 2 rthat's using it and see the yields and bud quality. Anyone know of any journals outright for it?

Well im on my third grow now, my first 2 grows used 2 180w led panels and yielded 3-5 oz per plant. this grow ive added a 240w panel and im only a few weeks into flower but im hoping for an even bigger yield this time around. I use multiple units to get the best coverage for my plants. If I had 600 dolalrs to spend again on lights id buy this, http://www.ebay.ca/itm/4PC-New-Full-Spectrum-2013-240w-LED-Grow-light-Flowering-3W-LEDs-VEG-Flowering-/161089897574?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2581b4c466 I bought my lights seperatly as the funds became available and just added them into my setup, kinda wish id been patient and gotten a bulk deal

I thought an SGS covers 2 x 3, BUT, you could rotate the plants 180*s each day, unless they are monsters like my Melanie, whose canopy is 3+feet. I had to bend the shit of her branches, which dwarf the 2 smaller plants on either side

I have had good success with Kessil H350 LED's. I use 2 Purple spectrum to Veg plants and add 2 more magnetas during flower. When I have all 4 going they are equivalent to about 1400 watts of HID light, and temps are cool as a cucumber. These lights are worth every penny and are super small and easy to move and adjust.

I've got a 2x4 grow and use 2 Advanced Diamond Series 100w lights. Nothing could be easier - have 2 autos growing in rotation with an automatic watering system, a timer and a filter. No heat issues - plenty of coverage and my God - the autos just keep producing every 8 weeks. I think this may be HEAVEN!!!!!!!!!! I've seen the light - LED, of course. :)

The only problem I have is they arent what they say they are. Epistar only makes 1.5w diodes. I just cant trust my money to someone who lies about the product. Unless the lights are by the same seller who sold you yours. If so, maybe a little better since I know you've used their brand. But otherwise I'm not going with someone idk. Thats the equivalent of 1000w though it looks like, and prob runs at like 150 ea right? Thats where your 600w figure comes from?

Will the $1500 light outperfom my $180 light?
Probably.

Do I care?
No, because my $180 LED is an upgrade from my $180 250 watt hps plus 160 watts of cfl with less heat.

Are people who ask rhetorical questions and then immediately answer them douchebags?
Definitely.
