LED lights

and the power used from wall question again, does any HPS user know anything about AMPS? ie a 600 - 1000W ballast will use a 13 AMP fuse (in uk) lots of 'juice' to get that element fired up eh? 3000 MAX @ 230V to be exact.
but with leds? 1.5 Amps....... it might be the same input needed from the wall but they sure as hell don't use all that juice, that's why the power drivers are constant, they just give a nice constant supply to the leds, even if one led fails, the current stays the same.

So, its all about the Amps....how fast it needs the electricity, not how much
Try it, use one of those economy meters that tell you how much electricity you are using per day, get a 600W from wall led, and a 600W from wall HPS,. see how fast the HPS uses the electricity compared to the LED, even tho they are both rated to use the same amount of power?

Head fuck I know, but its all about the AMPS not the wattage used with leds.
reminds me of the day suppliers used to confuse output with input...

Peace.
Volts x Amps = Watts

Yup,. correct,

but.. main test here is 600 HPS vs 600 LED both same power from the wall, via meter readings = truth NOT complications or any other equations.
some one surely somewhere is gonna try it or do I have to be the first again? lol

huh?...

What are you getting at? Rated output vs actual power consumption?

nope, just power consumption.

I quote from my previous post

"use one of those economy meters that tell you how much electricity you are using per day, get a 600W from wall led, and a 600W from wall HPS,. see how fast the HPS uses the electricity compared to the LED, even tho they are both rated to use the same amount of power"

That doesn't make sense...600 watts is 600 watts

I think what your getting at is LED are (probably) more efficient than HID. Meaning the actual power consumption is less.

A 600w ballast will actually use slightly more than 600w because ballasts are not 100% efficient.

Couple of things i have observed using l.e.d. (With h.p.s) plants under the l.e.d.s use more water, finish quicker, are more potent.I just purchased a 400w Spectrum King ( 30 days ago)so far so good, but i will need a couple of momths to get a true test of what these can do.Don't buy from Cidly they are garbage, and will not honour any warranty whatsoever.I know that L.e.d. are the future in indoor lighting just don't think were quite there yet Does anyone know of a quality C.O.B.manufacture?as some of us are unable to build our own.

great to read: flash63

my test is 440w led vs 1kw hps..y only a week or so under it

we 'may' be there yet..

but odds are the poster above is more correct

i like the enclosure,,,and hose down while still on /no fan..factor

Oh so now we are upping the wattage to 1000W LED? So what's the point? Drawing 1000W from the wall even if it is for led's is still drawing 1000W at what $3000 or more per panel vs maybe $400 for a ballast/bulb and a shade.
What is that mean? How many plants per 4x4 area? How long is the veg and flower? What strain? With Diesel I can get 1.4 or so LB with 49 plants per 4x4 area with a 1000W in an air cooled shade in 7-8weeks of flower and no veg time.

The other things with LED is yes there is less heat but none of the manufacturers talk about heat from the power supply which is in the same room as the plants vs a remote ballast. I did a test once with a 340W LED array and a 600W hps lights in a 3x3 tent. There wasn't that much difference in how fast the tent temps raised with the LED in the room vs just the 600W HPS bulb.
Heres something for you to take a look at.

This individual did a 4 plant grow in a 4x4 tent of chem dawg. He is using the mars 2 1200w witch draws 530 watts from the wall. He pulled the same 20oz you did with half the hydro and 45 less plants. The retail of this light is 435$USD. I may be considering this...if i can get 40oz for the same hydro as a 1000w minus the A/C and inline fans i would. If you look around...LED bud is usually always frostier and tests higher THC.

Again, if you deal with this company for more then 8+ lights i would ask for a discount and think about purchasing a backup light as the warrenty is or people who can build these lights.
Unfortunately i asked my buddy who also owns a hydro shop and he said he would rather sell a customer 10 bulbs instead of a 5 year LED. Business before service with this guy though...

Unless I can get the lights locally from a reputable dealer I won't touch it with a 10 foot pole. It does limit me to some things but not going take the chance of getting fucked over with warranty. I've done this for 12 years and there's been plenty of fuck overs from manufactures and wholesalers not wanting to warranty things.

How long was the veg? With the set up I was testing I could get 7 crops in one year. Yes it does limit to be certain strains but I prefer Diesel anyways for myself so not a big deal. if I grew Jamaican which I also like as its nice a mellow I'd be puling close to 2lb with it. I have a couple customers who get 1.25 with 600W Gavita pros which is the same they were getting with 1000W lights.

Im not sure how long but it really couldnt be that long. Those plants are maybe 18inches finished. If he would have upped it to say 36' im sure he would have hit 1.5lb/24oz

YUP and no fan in Spectrum King....Flash hows it workin so far......Musta just missed you in there that day...lol
I agree, i like the no fan approach. With there old model it was very bulky and took up alot of height. From what i see there new 400+ is a slim model. I watched a vid of theres and they peeped up and said a 600w is coming out.

I think if those plants finished much taller, there would just be more popcorn.

So these Mars units use a ga-zillion leds. The spectrum King seems to have many many less. I'm not up to speed on this stuff yet. But that seems an important difference for many reasons....eh ?
I guess a head to head would be the ticket...along side a HPS lamp .....need a bag of money to drop on me.

Oh and the Spectrum King is a big thing-me as well....looks at least 14 inches top to bottom. So it does need some height to work...just addin this to the mix....I'm prone to like all the fins for cooling...no fans to fuck up. That will be an issue in the future on fan equipped unit imo.

yeah ive checked out the spectrum king... excellent video, even better he shows you them being assembled aswell, even down to the leds being placed into the boards.
The guys got nothing to hide and his led has some interesting tech, dome led configuration,, white spectrum, etc... yeah it might look like a glorified 'warehouse bay light' with passive cooling
but I like the way he has marketed it.
No nonsense, direct information.
cool dude. I wish him all the best.

talking of passive cooled leds, I got a unique, one of a kind, SMD Osram ssl80 Oslon LED baylight/sidelight/floorlight with passive cooling aswell.
Its a prototype, has undergone a full grow with a tester and performed really well as a side light.
60 x 3w LEDs, only using 1w each, so power draw is approx. 60Watts, output? more then 180W,,as Osrams emit more output then a conventional made led., umoles readings etc.. will be tested soon,
Now before anyone tries to shoot me down for marketing BS, this isn't my designed LED & it isn't for sale, so that's all I can tell ya about it.
just thought y'all would be interested too see another passive led.
~Not as beast as the Spectrum King eh? but different leds for different purposes.
