I too stand with my LED brothers and sisters in arms! (LED from start to finish of grow). Currently using (for the first time but been using since the start of this grow) a Vipar 864w*real Watt 420 approx.* COB led light (bought for the bargain price of £220 including shipping). Posted two pics on this thread: https://www.rollitup.org/t/show-your-ladies-off-newbies.899607/ (more info in that post plus a link to more info/pics in a seperate thread). Packed my tent so don't expect great results ..but at week 5 of bloom they're not looking to shabby :) (better then my first LED grow). fyi - Have purposly avoided using secondary light sources so i can test the light.

how do you know that? You JUST got the unit
I don't know if it's going to do its job the way I hope yet. But what I meant was I like it so far because I've had some super sloppy GG's in it for a week vegging & they looked great. I can see it working well but wouldn't we all like to think that after spending big bucks. Hoping for the best. I'll try to make time to get a thread up on it for everyone so we know for sure. But I saw another grower get great results from it & after researching it prior to purchase, using the knowledge I gained here, it checks out with me. I really doubt any T-5 bulbs will grow like this. Thing is mega bright using a 22k spectrum. Absolutely no heat if that was possible. I kicked on my new Hydroponics Hut 500 water & it was at least 12 times hotter. Bout to set-up my Amare SE-450 soon to as I'll also be flowering using that against my HH to see if that companies legit. I have a thread going now on the HH & Amare comparison somewhat. Not a scientific perfect comparison but recordings of my opinions on the two in comparison. All are welcome to come by the thread. Not quite sure how to post a link to it. It's the X5-500.

Trying out 3 different lights to see where my money's going to go. All 3 are performing awesome! So far, I'm loving the LED growing. Way less heat & energy. Made it allot easier to throw a room together too, utilizing the nearest outlets w/o blowing them & have room to go. Still building. The Amare is Everything I hoped for, the Hydroponics Hut is great & fairly inexpensive, & the SunCloak is just ridiculously the shiiizzziiitttt!!!!!image.jpg

My bad! I can be a dick admittingly. Didn't realize I was until I read it back. Yup! Let's start over. Busy working on the room & light but I apologize for that & admire that you had a light built. Why did you? When I first started studying this I wanted someone to build me one as o thought everything was eat to much $$$ & I didn't agree with things about the ones offered. I see DIY builds & drool over them. Like the bigger LES, light emitting surface. And that's what I see these guys doing with the cobs. Great stuff. Gotta go. Peace!
Agreed, we have too much in common not to be friends, lol

Your room looks great! You're doing comparisons of different panels on the market? That's great stuff and exactly what this forum is best used for; sharing knowledge.

I had my modules custom built to my specifications rather than building them myself because my own focus is on the larger system, of which the lighting is just one part. They needed to be compact, solidly built and shaped to work well in a vertical grow. The time I'd have spent to get up to speed to manufacture 25 modules would have taken me away from other essential aspects of the project, plus I need to develop the skill and art of delegating tasks to appropriately skilled people.

These COBs are nothing less than the very cutting edge of horticultural lighting, a fact that has caught nearly everyone by surprise- including the chip makers themselves!

I'm using them in my own research project, the goal of which is to reduce the various costs of growing food and medicine indoors to the point where it's economically viable for people to supplement their diets with food they grow themselves, from inside their own home or apartment.

I believe I'm making progress.

Hey fellow LED users..just started a new grow using a marshydro 96 reflector series led..seedlings seem to be loving it..just a question about heights of the light to the plants..currently its at 14 inches/350mm from top of seedlings..any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. .cheers

Anyone out there know heights to plant ratios with led..mine are doing well but no height yet..11 days in..not sure if they should have a bit more height..20160310_155528.jpg 20160310_155521.jpg

If you want more stretch raise the fixture, looks good to me though.............to many variables to give definite distance #s grower, you just need to read your plants. If you see any weird(curling/twisting/bleaching) issues on the tops, back it off, simple

good luck

ok guys just wrapped up my second grow using 4 mars hydro 300w. 140w actual power draw so 560w covering 19 square. nearly 30w a square foot. first grow with ph issues and broken branches yielded roughly only 5 or 6 ounces in dwc buckets. 2 plants are ww 2 plant are jack herer. Am I doing something wrong at only .25 grams per watt? i'm currently waiting on my most recent harvest with little to no issues during flower to dry before trimming and weighing I'm hopping to see atleast 10+ oz. i did some pretty heavy trimming under the scrog net to achieve denser buds but they didn't really fatten up like i would have expected. next grow will take place in a grow tent 55x55 that has reflective sides as apposed to open 12x10 bedroom with no reflective liner. do you think the size of grow room is causing a lot of light to be lost? am i underpowered at 30w a square, i was thinking of either 4 more leds or buying 600w hid which would give 58w per square? or are these lights just not great at all. here is a few pics of recent grow
