Life without electricity. Would you survive?

No. I just tried my axe and it won't start.

William Forstchen wrote about just such a scenario. The book is called One Second After. (Edit: it was not a flare but a nuke that created the EMP in his book.) Very detailed, and essentially the government is simply gone and people have to pull together into small rural communities and figure out how to live in the 1840s but with better guns.

I am pretty sure I'd be an early casualty.

I have and it's not fun . My wife would die in three days .

Unclean water , no preservitives = sickness and starvation. = Mass die off = more death .

Those that survive have a life expectancy of 25-35 .

The good news is that this isn't a "Dies the Fire" type event. (S. M. Stirling wrote a series about people surviving the sudden collapse of all high-energy tech, including guns and steam power!) Once the EMP source is gone, electricity will still work, and at that point it becomes a matter of rebuilding.

I think most preppers are just deluding themselves. If things are really that bad, they won't survive as much as linger. If they aren't that bad society will rebound. Chances are, none of the shite they plan for will occur in their lifetimes.

But hey, everyone needs a hobby.

long term survivablity would be tough unless you were in a community situation of like minded people. i'd definitely make sure to save the last round.

What exactly does an EMP kill? I was under the impression it's just circuitry. Stuff like motors, generators, etc will still work.. assuming they aren't computer controlled.
A '50s pickup with a magneto ignition will run still.
Will an EMP kill a points type distributor? I didn't think it would. I have my mid 90s, all mechanical, diesel truck, doesn't need any electrics to run. I bought it, partially, for this scenario. 4wd, solid axles, manual transmission, runs on just about any fuel oil.. I'll point it into the woods and wait. I'm trying to find a recoil starter, uses a ratchet to crank a big ass clock spring to start the truck, then I'll be 100% mechanical. With a little work I think I have room to mount a starter on both sides on the motor, one electric, one crank.
