The ultra-conservative deep south (USA) is like a world unto itself. Religious people everywhere, which is OK I guess; except they want to push their morality on everyone and everything else.

Stores that refuse to sell beer on Sunday.
Draconian laws for marijuana use.
No medical marijuana tolerance.
Bumper stickers that say "If it Ain't King James, it Ain't Bible!".
Bumper stickers that say "Eternity: Heaven or Hell. You decide.".
Continued racism and intolerance of other people's views.

Some things I remember growing up in the deep south in the 1960s:

When I was a little kid, my dad wouldn't allow me to go outside without a shirt on Sundays.
Fishing on Sunday was considered a great sin.
I once heard a preacher say that for killing his brother Abel, Cain was turned into a black man (by God - as a curse).
I wore normal short pants to play tennis on a church outing in 1975, and the church leadership expressed their extreme displeasure.

California, do you have room for me?

I grew up, was raised, and still live in the South. I have NEVER been exposed to the bullshit you speak of unless I was in some REALLY DEEP COUNTRY THAT DOESN'T HAVE A FUCKING WALMART.
I've lived in the South for 30 fucking years bro, and I will tell you this, I have NEVER been to a store that didn't sell alcohol on a Sunday, OR ANY DAY FOR THAT MATTER!
Hey dumbass, in NEW JERSEY, NO STORES ARE OPEN ON SUNDAY EXCEPT Grocery and restaurants, why don't you talk your bullshit about them?

Yea, it's easy to pick on the South unless you're from here you dumb fuck. Matter of fact, my local laws ARE EXTREMELY lenient with marijuana, SO MUCH SO IT'S DECRIMINALIZED, but I guess it's fodder for you to say what the masses judge it by. Fuck you.

They just started selling alcohol in the county I live in recently . The people who run this county grow a shitload of weed , have meth cooking ops and all kinds of large scale corrupt bs that anyone else would be doing life if they got caught , but these guys just keep skating by all of the laws just like everybody else . But thats the way it was up in the north too , except no dry counties and no meth , they have crack coke and heroin 24/7 .And the highest taxes ever . I want to live where its decriminalized HeyYousGuys . Fuck if a guy doesnt like it where he lives he can always move No ?

What a load of crap!

Ever stop to think that it was probably how your dad was raised so he was trying to pass his values and raising on to you? Not really anything to do with the South, just a personal conviction on what he thought was right.

The fishing thing was just another example of an expression of his morals and views, he wasn't speaking for the South in doing so.

It's not the South's fault that a preacher said what he said, it's his fault for not knowing what he was teaching better.

To be honest I can see where in that day and time the Church would think it was inapropriate to wear shorts to a Church outing. Again not an issue of the South.

You need to let go of things and just live life and quit making excuses about all this stuff, just because it was that way growing up doesn't make it anyones fault only you can break a cycle and make a change in your life.

Recently, I was reminded of that when I brought a six-pack to the counter of a gas station on a Sunday, and the clerk told me in a very terse manner to put the beer back in the cooler.

It is not a matter of choice by store owners or store clerks, you twat. It happens to be the law. If the beer had been sold to you and the wrong person saw or if you were a plant to see if beer would be sold, their license would have instantly been pulled.

Some places in GA are like that. Even with selling beer on Sunday's this needs to be changed, most games are on Sunday's. As for marijuana laws, they're like this everywhere. In GA there's plenty of head shops about selling pipes and bongs, and we all know pipes and bongs aren't for enjoying tabaccee or herbal yummies, they're for pot. However, there is still that undertone of a racial divide, as it has always been, it's too bad too. But in my experience the south is much more friendly that the north.

I've lived in 'The South' for 35 of my 40 years on this planet. I lived in California for 5 years while in the Navy. If you offered me a free home and a $100k a year job to live in California I wouldn't take it.

State law prevents alcohol sales on Sunday. The way OP posted it seems to imply the local store owners won't sell on Sunday's. They don't have a choice.

I've actually seen more racism OUTSIDE of the South than in it. Also, I have NEVER seen a KKK rally.

I lived in cali for 11yrs and i'd take that job.
I had to come back south b/c my father was dying of cancer now i'm taking care of my mother.

I've seen several KKK rallys and they were selling t-shirts with a KKK guy dressed in full rag . on the front with this printed on it.

I remember all the riots when they 1st intagrated the schools here.

People from the south are proud people look how they are attacking the op.
Most still don't like yankies b/c of the Civil War,they still fly the STARS AND BARS where i live.
